How do you decide the number of units in a building such as Eight Seven Park, where you could have put more than units but opted for 66? And what went into the decision to place the building on one acre and create a twoacre private park on the north side of the building? Every neighborhood has a different characteristic.
You want to try to work in that DNA rather than impose a preconceived idea. North Beach is about intimate, boutique experiences, so this project called for us to echo that same ethos. Would you say selecting the team, from architect to interior designer, is equally important as having a prime location on which to build? The team is just as important, if not more than, the blueprint. This location was an undiscovered gem, and it takes the right mix of people to effectively work together and unlock hidden value.
How long have you known the Toledos and what inspired this collaboration? The Toledos have been close friends of our family for years. Eighty Seven Park finds itself placed in a quiet spot, nestled between the sea and the shore. Furthering its sense of place, every interior and exterior element of the project embraces its. How many cities can offer that, connected to an urban grid? In our real estate market, the answer is none. Eighty Seven Park is more than a building. You and your wife Christy are known for giving back so much to the community. Can you share with us some organizations near and dear to you both? Philanthropy is a big part of our lives. We value shaping a safer, healthier, more culturally engaged Miami for our children. Clearly, van der Burgh works hard, gives back and enjoys the best of everything. We all need to have some kind of balance in our lives.
After the gym, I enjoy my second meal and mentally get ready for the day ahead. I need this moment of Zen because of the amount of work that needs to be handled on any given day. I try to fly out to. Back at the office, I usually have back-to-back meetings with senior staff members, which usually finish around 8 p. Currently, we have taken a little hiatus and are focusing more on family. We finished our first-look deals and we are expanding in the digital world for women and for film. My parents educated myself and [my] sister through travel. They have done this since we were young. So even though I have been to many incredible places traveling for my job, it has been nothing compared to our family trips.
From trekking gorilla in Uganda to fishing for piranha in the Amazon rain forest, they have all been incredible educational experiences. Nothing is more liberating than getting And I think that being true to yourself will give you an advantage in every aspect of your life. Once I came out, I no longer had to compartmentalize and distract myself from my sexuality in order to focus on competing or training.
How does it feel to be an inspiration to so many people? When I meet someone or get a message telling. Of course there are athletes I look up to, but more than that, I think I look up to any small town queer person living their life honestly and unapologetically.
