Apocalypse with a Side of Grilled Spam - Episode Three (The Strangelets Series Book 3)
A couple of soldiers and a scientist are heading west in a humvee when they arrive at the big box store survivor settlement in Kansas.
What makes it a fun read is that the characters are all so likeable and entertaining-down home types like the folks who think the last four words of the National Anthem are "gentlemen, start your engines" that's a quote from the book. It's a pretty quick read-around locations. Hope someday there's a sequel or a novel! With the title I figured this would be tongue-in-cheek but was surprised how entertaining the end of the world might be.
Strangelets With a Side of Grilled Spam: Episode Three
You have interdimensional aliens attacking. They look and treat us like hors d'oeuvres. Yup, we're part of the food chain now. Throw in a couple rough around the edges redneck sounding soldiers and you have the start of a heck of an entertaining book AND series. Michael Angel not only writes a great book but you can tell he had fun doing it. I think this post-apocalyptic short story is one of those things you gotta be in the right mood for, or you won't enjoy it. Well, I was in the right mood.

Love the fight sequences, especially oiling the windmill to get it going again, and I seriously need to drive that Humvee downtown, not excepting the rooftop machine gun. Okay, the romance is cheesy; I think it's supposed to be, and if so, it achieves its goal. The offbeat characters work for the offbeat story and best of all, the series opener stands alone. Can't wait to read more.
Thanks for the read, Mr. I'm an avid military Sci-Fi reader.
I read the original short story between books and liked the unique twist to the post-apocalyptic story. I was excited to find out that it would be the foundation for several books. The extension of the original short story in the first episode was seamless. It filled in a lot of loose ends in the original short story that left me wanting to know more. The characters had enough depth to make them believable and I thoroughly enjoyed the authors since of humor expressed though the main characters.
More than once, I giggled out loud and without giving too much away, the polo game was pure brilliance. You're not bogged down on endless descriptions of details that don't progress the story but instead thrown right into the action, from start to finish and thoroughly entertained in the process. Can't wait to read the next one. The near endless cliches and good ole boy lexicon were difficult for me. The characters were very likable but there was little plot to this book and then it just stopped to be continued in episode 2. Way too much time was spent describing the particle physics and too little time on any action.
Weird stuff but interesting to read. Probably leave this right where it rests. May we see more of these characters please? As others here have said, would love to see a full-length book starring these folks. I love short stories, especially ones that have me thinking hours and days later -- so here I am doing a review, then off to check for more by this author. Yknow, they say 'don't judge a Book by its cover' but what about its title?
Up until today, I have done just that. I took a chance, though, and was rewarded for it. I don't see any other episodes on Amazon. See all 41 reviews.
