Pink Sky & Mourning (The Ruth Chernock Series Book 4)

Very hard to put down. If the rest of her books are this good , i'm a devoted reader and follower to Kim Scott all the way! This was a very interesting read. It kept my attention and I finished it in just a couple of hours!

Pink Sky & Mourning (Ruth Chernock #4)

I am planning to purchase the next in the series after posting this review. A really good read! Once you start reading you will not want to stop! Regarding Ruth is the first story in a group of four, and tells the story, based on fact, of the author's ancestor, Ruth Chernock. Ruth's life is short and sad. Raped at the age of 16, and denied the hand in marriage of her true love, she spends the next few years pining and scheming until she is tried for murder at In between, she turns from a beautiful, slightly spoilt and idealistic young girl to one who kill children seemingly without any emotional anguish whatsoever.

Over the years I've Regarding Ruth is the first story in a group of four, and tells the story, based on fact, of the author's ancestor, Ruth Chernock. Over the years I've read a lot of American historical fiction, and I know that life in the 's was brutal, often short and women were treated like property for most of the time. Ruth's marriage to Tobias seems better than some. He treats her with patience and respect even as she makes it obvious she loves another man. I was not sure how realistic this would be but in the end it does not matter.

The language is beautiful and utterly convincing, with an accomplished feeling of the time and place. The story wraps itself around you like a homespun quilt, before attempting to strangle you with it's seemingly casual horror as the story unfolds. I will be reading the rest of the series, as the characters are so compelling and I want to know what happens to them. I tried not to compare them, but it was inevitable, and it did not disappoint. Regarding Ruth was an intruiging story that held my attention for almost the entire book.

I spent the last few chapters almost painfully waiting for Ruth to gain some redemption - for there to be some reason, some mistake, some repentance, but that was not to be. The manner in which Ruth had almost an obsession with killing babies and little children and her inability to love someone who loved her made me feel a bit sick, but it was written in such a way that you keep hoping that somehow Ruth wi Regarding Ruth was an intruiging story that held my attention for almost the entire book.

The manner in which Ruth had almost an obsession with killing babies and little children and her inability to love someone who loved her made me feel a bit sick, but it was written in such a way that you keep hoping that somehow Ruth will be redeemed from her shadows - that there is something good there. The story starts with Ruth being hung and you are led to believe she is innocent - until slowly and almost painfully the truth comes out. She is in love with Teague, a young man who comes to town with his family.

By a cruel turn of events Ruth is sent away to have a baby she does not want. Returning without the baby and somehow changed inside, Ruth is not the girl she once was. Life continues, but not in the way she envisioned - Teague has already married someone else. There is some love, but also betrayal, heart-break, death and desire that adds to the many emotions of the book. The characters are skillfully written and well-developed. The storyline is consistent and follows the time and practices of those days very well. I cannot say I thoroughly enjoyed the book, but it was a different type of story that stays with you long after the last page is turned.

Being English, I loved reading about American history of that time. Also knowing the heroin, Ruth was an ancestor of the author, made the story even more amazing. Ms Scott, is a wonderful writer, she draws the reader into the life of those times, and in most cases it was a hard life, especially for a woman. Even though there are a lot of characters, it was easy to keep track of them all.

At first I found the language a little strange, but s What a fascinating story, full of drama, twists and turns. At first I found the language a little strange, but soon got used to it. This book is packed with drama and action, and took my emotions all over the place. For me, the tragic event at the end of the book, which led to Ruth being hanged, came as a huge surprise.

See a Problem?

This a great book and not one I will forget in a hurry! Regarding Ruth starts out with the story of Ruth being hung. One of her descendents resarched the reason that Ruth was hung and if she deserved it or not. This is the story of Ruth from the time she was 15 to the time she was hung at I loved this book. It kept my attention and I had hard time putting it down.

There were times I felt bad for Ruth and then sometimes I wanted to hang her myself. There are many twists and turns in this book and those are wonderful in themselves because it keeps Regarding Ruth starts out with the story of Ruth being hung. It seemed a little slow in the beginning but soon picked up and was a real page turner.

However, many of the plot twists were predictable. There was only one real "didn't see that coming" moment. I can't say for sure whether I will read the other books in the series but it was a good, entertaining, book. Jul 07, Toni L. Great start to the series. Highly enjoyed the book. • What Happened to Alex Manning? With a little word play it became Pink Sky and Mourning. What is your fascination with 18 th century Maine? The 18 th century was an incredible transition period in New England. Maine has a blended history that traces primarily to Britain and France with a strong influence from the local Native American tribes here. From the food and speech patterns to the architecture and peculiar traditions, Maine is an exceptional place. Who is the first person you would allow to read one of your completed novels?

My sister-in-law was my first choice. I come from a family of blunt speakers. We speak our minds and apologize if need be, when all is done with. My sister-in-law has a quieter nature and I knew she would sugar coat it a bit if the finished work was dreadful.

When she seemed to be sincerely pleased with it, I felt more confident and shared with several others. Before moving on to have it published I turned to my younger sister. I knew she would be brutally honest. When she gave me a virtual thumbs up I was incredibly relieved. What keeps you motivated to write? I have always needed creative outlets to vent my energy into. Without them I am so restless it is absurd. I sew, knit, do needlepoint, quilt, and write.

At any given time I might have six or eight projects in the works. But writing provides a creative outlet with an escape. Mentally I travel to the locations in my books and listen to the stories my characters tell. The feeling I get from that keeps me motivated and continually draws me back again after each story is done. Do you suffer writer's block? I have been so fortunate I have never struggled with serious writers block.

But after I pass that hurdle it begins to flow and quickly the characters are shouting over each other to tell their tales. Describe a typical day in the life of author, Kim Scott. My days vary based on how my lungs are functioning. I have sarcoidosis of the lungs and it can be extremely limiting. The weather, balance of my meds and a thousand other factors determine how I feel physically. Most days I begin with iced mocha coffee made with espresso and a variety of prescriptions.

If all goes well I am on the computer early. I check my FB page, Twitter and other social media sites. I then move on to tackling emails. My Outlook calendar is checked frequently for appointments and commitments. Throughout the day I do housework, writing, reading and watching an occasional old movie. Classic old film - Citizen Kane: Everything is dependent on feel and what my body will allow. On average I am out of the house only one to two days a week.

Really it is not as bad as it sounds. What do you do to relax, to get away from work and writing? I seldom get away from writing and marketing. This story has evolved so far beyond the original tale now but I love it. This book is written more from the male point of view than the female as it had been in the Ruth Chernock Series. In the beginning I thought I would dislike him immensely but I do love this character. Are the names of your characters in your novels important?

They are important to me. I factor in the time period, the surname and likely country of origin before choosing a name. The time period used in my books makes this information essential. I research common names of the period and earlier generations too. Making the names fit the time and place is more important to me than assigning any hidden meanings to them.

Do you work with an outline, or just write?

Rose Angels Season 2 Ending 2 verson 1

I begin with a six to eight page outline. I also work out a timeline of births, marriages, deaths, etc.

    Regarding Ruth

The outline changes as I work through it but the beginning and ending generally remain the same straight through. What do your family and friends think of your writing? My family and friends are incredibly supportive of my writing.
