Feb 20, Loraine rated it really liked it Shelves: Annie Gray has an epiphany: This is another full of fun witty novel by Sandra Bricker. It started out slowly but picked up its pace before the reader loses interest. It is filled with wonderful dialogue, lots of old fashioned wonderful movies and movie quotes that add to the feel of being back in the time of the early movie industry with the classic actors and actresses.

Annie is a bit whiny and complaint filled but she does grow as a character throughout the novel. Nick is a delight with his hard-boiled exterior and his soft, sweet interior. Overall a good, easy-to-read contemporary romance. Nor was He in the earthquake or the fire, as you might expect. When the Lord's presence arrived at Elijah's door, it was a sweet, gentle whisper that greeted him. All the other stuff was just Hollywood drama I love that passage because it tells us that our destiny doesn't always have to be in the big, showy things Sometimes it's going to be in the softer, sweeter things of life, the ones that bring that safe feeling, like the comfort of home.

Every day doesn't have to be out-of-the-ordinary spectacular to be inspiring. There is a joy in sharing simple things with someone special, in finding your own way and following the path that was laid out for you. Jun 04, Victoria rated it it was ok Shelves: The character build-up was pretty good in this book, but the plot was a bit drab. Annie feels like her "clock is ticking" so to speak, though she is only 26 years old. The problem is all her friends are married and her little brother is married too and is praised by her parents.

She wants to set up her life kinda like an old classic film romance. Her priorities are set far too high and her friend Evan seems to be someone who is there but not "The One" for her. Annie looks for a new job for a Dea The character build-up was pretty good in this book, but the plot was a bit drab. Annie looks for a new job for a Deacon whom she calls "Deke" and comes in contact with a man named Nick who is a friend of Deke's.

He pretty much just bothers her if anything. Her friend's handsome friend on the other hand seems to have interest in her and great potential for a possible boyfriend. This whole book is basically about how we need to throw out that list of what is a good thing in life and see that not everything is perfect. This is a Christian fiction book but God is pretty much in the background and not the foreground. He is mentioned here and there and we never see a character fully dependent on Him.

It wasn't a bad book, I just couldn't get sucked in regardless of the fact that I read it in a couple days. Jul 28, Mrs. I love Sandra's books, but this one isn't my favorite of hers. I find that with other authors as well, I'll find one or two of their books I don't love as much even though the rest of them are absolutely wonderful. The descriptions really bring the story to life! There were several other descriptions that really grabbed my attention and made me think as well. Setting was fun because I grew up in that area of CA and I could really picture it. It took me a while to start to like the female main character as she seemed frivolous and self-involved but she grew on me as she tried to make herself a better person.

The ending was happy but rather abrupt. Violence, no sex, mild language. Apr 30, Hillari Delgado rated it liked it. Annabelle 'Annie' Gray is tired of being 'just one of the background players' in her own life. Annie draws up a list of things she feels she needs to 'star in [her] own life story. Annie finds roadblocks and complications as she works down her list: And then there's that insufferably arrogant-but intriguing-police detective she keeps running into Bricker's light humor and deft characterization keep the overall tone sweet and breezy, while Annie's emotional growth is still realistic and relatable.

Secondary characters have more depth than is usual for this sub genre. Annie's love life is amusing and romantic, with enough false steps and goofs to make her eventual 'happily-ever-after' satisfying. Bricker is less successful in integrating the Christian faith element into her story: A major secondary plot element is left unresolved, and Annie's grandmother is absent from the last third of the story. Bricker's "The Big 5-Oh" is a stronger example of her ability to resolve interwoven subplots.

Nevertheless, this is a light and amusing, feel-good story with a delightful heroine, a sparkling romance and an evocative setting full of appealing characters. May 09, Laura rated it it was amazing. Grandma Dot is a former film star who is still friends with some recognized stars. Recently let go from her job, Annie is looking to start fresh. Not having a lot of support, she feels, other than her grandmother, Annie wants to make something of herself.

Something that will make her over-achiever brother proud. And maybe she might even find a man in the mix—someone to love. May 04, Valerie Comer rated it it was amazing. Annie Gray has decided to take the loss of her job as a challenge. Annie lands a job as an assistant to Private Investigtor Deke Heffley. If only anyone did. Soon Annie finds herself juggling the attentions of three men.

When Deke lands in the hospital for surgery and a lengthy recuperation period, Nick fills in for him, running the agency. I was sadly disappointed in it, unfortunately. I couldn't connect to the heroine at all, and she had so many guys buzzing around it was like a bad Sunfire Romance novel. Annie kept drawing everything around her into a drama, and she became jealous about the least little thing, making me think she was extremely insecure as a person.
