This book has what look like drawings instead of actual pictures. It can be kind of hard to tell the name because they aren't labeled well. Sometimes it can be hard to tell which name goes with which creature. The pictures are very accurate to the actual butterfly and moth. For basic identification it's great, but if you own any Audobon Society book, you will be disappointed with this.

My only wish is that it also My only wish is that it also included photos of metamorphis from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly or moth in order to help identify if you see it in one of the other phases of development.

Perfect for the backyard nature lover! Great pictures help to identify those flitting mysteries among your plants. The kids love the book. Great - my granddaughter loves it. This book was perfect for him!!! I was a little dissappointed in this guide. I thought it would offer better descriptions and more species. The very first moth I went to look up wasn't even in there the satin moth. I realize this is more for a beginner or a child, but I thought this was even more basic than that. One person found this helpful.
