After reading "What makes you happy and why you should do the opposite" I have come to the conclusion that "Brain Changer" was a hastily written afterthought. The first section "Know" contains information that is far from groundbreaking and painfully redundant. Though DiSalvo likes to refer to himself as a science help writer rather than a self help writer the second section "Do" feels vaguely like a pandering mish-mash of self help.
At the very least the last section "Expand" features a host of authors worth looking into, a minor redeeming quality for this book. This book has nuggets of wisdom and information somewhat buried in rhetoric and diagrams that aren't especially helpful, especially in Part I: I found the best section to be Part II: It contains lots of exercises to try out with one's self and in work with others.

Drawing on the latest research in cognitive psychology, neuroscience, behavioral economics, and communications, DiSalvo replaces self-help with science-help," giving readers practical steps to change their thinking and their lives. Known for his accessibility and applicable findings, DiSalvo explains that the human mind operates via a series of feedback loops" generated in the brain. By identifying how these systems work, DiSalvo shows we can actually redirect our thinking through metacognition, a tool for thinking about thinking, to influence the brain's response.
Using relatable examples and tackling major aspects of our lives including relationships, careers, physical health, and personal development, DiSalvo demonstrates how the brain's enormous capacity to adapt is the most crucial factor influencing how we feel and act-a powerful tool we can control to change our lives.
Toon meer Toon minder. DiSalvo suggests that by retraining the brain, our thoughts may take us somewhere more satisfying than where we are. From chewing gum, to writing our own obituaries to gargling with lemonade, you'll be amazed by the many ways you can rev up that powerful engine puttering along in your cranium.
