The Deconstruction of Professor Thrub

The Deconstruction of Professor Thrub by D.D. Johnston

And as for love and medical emergencies This book surges all over the place but it kept taking me with it. Stick with the journal articles, even if it takes some skim reading to do so, because there's some fun embedded in them. I loved the stream of crazy intelligence as well as the writing.

Nov 30, Jude rated it it was ok. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish this book. I tried very hard to go as far as possible but there are so many stories at the same time, it's not very easy to follow what happens to who. Sometimes, there is a chapter coming out of nowhere and I really did not understand why it was here and how it was useful to the story or the characters.

So if you don't have trouble reading stories that has so many characters at different ages and with no regular order in the chapter, you may enjoy this book. But Unfortunately, I couldn't finish this book. But I just found it very hard to follow and that is the reason why I dropped it after page Oct 09, Ben Kearvell rated it really liked it.

Media and the Movement: Deconstructing Journalism's Role in Race and Inequality

Johnston does excellent work melding philosophy with history, history with humanity and humanity with absurdity. The Deconstruction of Professor Thrub scales the topographic heights of free will and determinism, and the comic depths of academic bureaucracy, soiled pyjamas and unrequited love. Amusingly, the review of the book by The Morning Star states "[o]f course Johnston — a libertarian communist — can't resist settling old scores against both the Spanish Communist party or the Soviet Union" but at least then admits that "he has written such a determinedly extraordinary book we can freely forgive him for that".

The deconstruction retains the satirical wit of Johnston's first novel , and while it contains some complex themes and historical events you don't need any specialised knowledge to be able to enjoy it. Admittedly, some of this philosophical musings were over my head, but many of the key concepts were helpfully explained by the author's foul-mouthed anarchist friend, Barry, who bears a striking resemblance to libcom's own revol68, if only he was as clever as he believes himself to be.

In the extract from the novel, below, Barry tears through professor Thrub's reading list, explaining why basically all the philosophers apart from Marx are a waste of time. A historical epic, a story about love, revolution and the university, with echoes of Luther Blissett's Q and a lot of laughs, this is a great book which entertains, confuses and educates in equal measure.
