First, in the Country, on a rainy morning, Curious George tries to play outside, so as the Man with the Yellow Hat searches the attic for an umbrella, much clutter falls from the attic, including a cart and the Man's with the Yellow Hat's first Yellow Hat.
Now, the rains have ceased, and so Curious George rolls his new cart around the Country, but discovers this too small to taxi Leslie the Cow, and there are no coconuts around, so what else is there to transport?
Curious George decides to collect interesting sticks in the woods. So, Curious George asks Allie to trade his cart for for her cider, when Mrs. Renkins says that trading was popular when she was a child, but whatever they trade, it's for keeps.

Then, the next morning, Curious George finishes all of cider and decides that he wants his cart back, but now it's gone. So, when Curious George figures that he needs something to trade for the cart, he asks the Man with the Yellow Hat for a jar of sauerkraut. But Allie wants a toy purple pony for the cart instead of the sauerkraut. Well, Vickys has a toy purple pony. But Vicky wants a doll house instead of sauerkraut.

Quint the Neighbor fixes his roof and has a crate, and Curious George helps him, and then asks if Mr. Quint wants to trade sauerkraut for the crate, from which Curious George makes a doll house, which Vicky likes and trades her toy purple pony for the homemade doll house. Quint, who already swapped the cart with brother Clint Flint for a singing whale, while brother Clint Quint already traded the cart to brother Wint Quint for a back massager, while brother Wint Quint already traded the cart for soap on rope, with Mrs.

Renkins, who already switched the cart with Vicky for a fishing pole, before Vicky already traded the cart to people from City, who, in turn already traded the cart to a wood sculptor Artist, who now searches for unusual sticks, which Curious George already happens to have, and so the Artist finally trades the cart to Curious George for his sticks So, will there be anything left to put into the cart for Curious "Trader George?
Now, Jade the Chameleon has a long, amazing tongue, and she changes colors when the temperature and her mood changes, so Curious George tries to extend his tongue to catch food, which he cannot do, but Jade escapes from her cage while Curious George practices to extend his tongue, and so Jade roams around the apartment when Curious George isn't watching, and she keeps changing colors, making it difficult for Curious George to locate her.
Well, Curious George cleverly retrieves Squeaky the toy chameleon from his room to squeeze to try to lure Jade the Chameleon, while Hundley the Doorman's Dachshund hear the squeaks through the ventilation system, and so Hundley follows the sounds to the apartment because he cannot resist the squeaks, but this causes Curious George to think that Hundley would scare Jade even after Curious George places Squeaky the toy chameleon into Jade's cage. Then how will Curious George keep track of a disappearing, color-changing chameleon?

He decides that he needs to spill something onto the floor to track her footprints, and so he spills flour over apartment, while Hundley tries to figure what Curious George is up to but certainly isn't pleased by the mess which Curious George causes around the apartment and into the hallway, where the track indicate that Jade has escaped, by crawling into a little girl's wagon, before she enters the elevator, and takes Jade out onto the streets to run wild. But, when the Man with the Yellow Hat arrives to discover the mess, he accidentally takes the cage with Squeaky the toy chameleon to the Zoo instead of Jade the Chameleon, while Curious George searches the City and realizes that Jade likes warm spots, and so Curious George finally locates Jade in a popcorn machine, while Steve arrives driving his bicycle.
