He was bigger than life, something like a John Wayne, though with a faith in God that showed in all he said and did.

I was a very young girl when I met him and his wonderful wife. He had grandsons my age.

He tought me so much through his stories, most true, some made up. I have traveled to many countries, met many famous people, though found none better than Hube. When I found this book on line I was beside myself with joy.

The copy I had was destroyed during one of my many moves. It is a treasure to me and I'm certain you will find it well worth the money. As a child I spend a wonderful summer vacation camping in the field of their horse ranch located in Cave Creek, Arizona and other visits to the DudeRanch they ran in Phoenix during the winter.

The Cave Creek Ranch actually was a cave for the living and sleeping rooms. The kitchen was built on to the entrance of the cave and, of course, there was an outhouse.

Strange as it may seem, my dear uncle actually was the man you read about and he gleefully pulled the "frog in the mouth" trick on me and my cousins as often as opportunity allowed. You can imagine the squeals of delight from children as their crazy uncle spits frogs from his mouth. While I admit this is a book that might seem ordinary in the beginning. I knew Hube Yates while growing up in Cave Creek Arizona in the mid's and he was a legendary character even back then.

I even got to spend a summer up at his ranch and watch some real cowboys in action. I enjoyed reading this book because it filled in the rest of the stories that he told to us around the campfire. A truly wonderful book about a truly remarkable man! The fact that it brought tears to.. I cannot honestly review this book as I ordered it as a gift for my eighty year old dad who met Hube Yates and stayed at his Dude Ranch back in I did page through it and read a story or two and found it quite humorous and easy reading. The fact that it brought tears to my father's eyes when he received it tells me that this book is definitely worth reading!!!!!

I can't wait to read it when he is finished! As I knew Hube personally, I wanted to read the book to see if it really outlined the guy I knew. Through his eyes we participate in practical jokes and embrace his children's births; we watch as he rescues an old man caught in a flash flood and as he fends off 'highway' robbers who threaten all who dare to brave New Mexico's inhospitable desert.

Because of the book's natural language and fluid structure, it's easy to forget that the stories it tells are authentic pieces of history, and that the smiling face on the cover is not that of an actor or model, but of a man who lived a life whose merit cannot adequately be measured by words. There is no accounting the number of lives his simple acts touched and improved. He embodied the American spirit.
