When readers told me their knitting circles were reading episodes of Amish Knitting Circle and then Amish Friends Knitting Circle and then making the dessert recipes included, an idea popped into my head. Granny loves Jane Austen, so why not have the women read classic literature and discuss it at their circle? Amish Knit Lit Circle was born.

All winter, Granny and her circle, now consisting of Amish and English friends, knit for the homeless and discuss books. As these women reach out into their community, they share what they've learned. The single moms at Forget-Me-Not Manor read Anne of Green Gables, and can identify with this lonely orphan, being formerly homeless and on the streets, and share their stories for the first time, bringing healing.

Mona reads Black Beauty and images of past abuse haunt her dreams and this could not possibly be a good thing, or is it? Visions of romance dance in the women's heads, too. Darcy telling Elizabeth, "You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. With their wives being so touchy-feely, will their husbands dive for the nearest rock to hide under? Some readers are participating in Granny's circle in the comfort of their homes, not having to travel to Smicksburg. Amish Knit Lit Circle Series by Karen Anna Vogel

This book is not yet featured on Listopia. Jan 13, Kimberly rated it it was amazing. I feel like these people have become a part of my life. In fact, this book centers around two of my favorite things to do, knitting and reading. In this book, the circle has come to include English and Amish. Lots of emotion, lots of love, and a whole lot of people who can live in a community and get along with all of them.

There's the usual tension, of course, but they work them out. So nice to read an entire series with no cursing, and to feel good when you're done.

Smicksburg Tales Series

These stories were so much fun to read. There is lots of inspiration and several Amish recipes to try. The characters were so varied and complex. The love and forgiveness is amazing. One person found this helpful. What could be better than reading stories based on my two favorite past times? Yes, I can knit and read at the same time.

I so enjoyed this set of stories and learning more about the members of this group. Had me worried there for a bit as I thought there might be a sad ending, but that wasn't the case. I very much recommend this set. I fell in love with the characters in the first book of the series. I also enjoy meeting new characters and learning about them. I love that you mix the Amish and Englishers.

Also enjoy the men. Wouldn't we all love marriages like these people have? I look forward to reading more about these wonderful characters. See all 29 reviews.
