Kick it, Walaa!: Das Mädchen, das über Grenzen geht (German Edition)
There are some things that you know that you can do, that another Christian may not be able to do, because of conscience sake. For example, one Christian may feel in good conscience that he may drink wine, while another Christian may not. If the brother who does not feel he should drink wine that is, he violates his own conscience by partaking sees you drinking wine, he will be offended. You may cause him to stumble!
In such a case. Do not seek your own good and advantage and profit All things are permissible, but not all things are helpful or profitable or wholesome. All things are legitimate, but not all things are constructive to character and building spiritual life [Verse 23]. Make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way. If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your actions destroy your brother for whom Christ died.
It is better not to drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall. The Scripture says, "Do you have faith? Whatever you believe about these things, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves.
But the man who has doubts is condemned if he does NOT act from faith. Everything that does not come from faith is sin Many Christians, as well as other people, are sick, poor, or have died because of their actions, thoughts, or attitudes against a minister of Christ. The Scriptures abound with true-life examples of the above and the resultant judgments. In 1 Samuel Chapters 24 and 26 we read interesting accounts that describe the character of King David. King Saul had been hunting him to kill him, with 3, chosen men out of Israel.
Twice David had an opportunity to kill Saul but each time he refused to do so. David said, "Destroy him not: The Lord forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the Lord's anointed. He finally retrogressed to the point where he even consulted a witch. Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and since he rebelled against God's new choice of a leader in David the "old order" versus the "new order" he ended up seeking help from the witch of Endor, who was a servant of the defeated one, Satan.
If you don't want fleas, don't lie down with the dogs! Saul had been anointed with oil to be King over Israel by Samuel the Prophet. Because of disobedience Saul was rejected as king by God two times [1 Samuel Chapters 13 and 15], and God then chose David [1 Samuel 16]. Never think evil or do evil or say evil to, or about, a minister of Christ! Do NOT allow jealousy, rebellion, hatred, or strife to be part of your life Following are a few examples of what happened when people took part in actions, thoughts, or attitudes against God's leaders.
Read through these examples carefully there are many more in the Holy Bible ; let God speak to you and then teach your people! Trying to deceive or lie to a man of God [2 Kings 5: Hurting them physically [1 Kings Causing them anguish or mental stress [2 Kings 2: Hindering the work of God [Acts Thinking or wishing evil toward them [Esther 9: Rebellion against God's leaders [Numbers Trying to make out with a minister's wife [Genesis Notice that whole nations were in danger of judgment when men tried to have a relationship with an anointed man's wife About 40 years ago I took a preacher's wife to a drama.
I had invited her and another Christian sister when he was out of town ministering. I was a fairly new Christian and a foolish young man. Even though I made no approaches that would seem to myself, or to other people, improper I sinned a great sin against an anointed man of God. You may always weigh every deed and thought by this commandment: Several years ago a Christian lady who lived only 1 block about meters from my family came to our home while I was gone and gave a false prophecy against me to one of the family members.
Within 24 hours her whole house was destroyed to the ground She was left with no place to live for her or her children. You need to teach your people Their lives, their health, their prosperity, their minds, and their spiritual well-being Don't be slow to tell people, "Don't mess with me or my family I'm a man or, woman of God! Even little things that hinder or slow down God's work are "weighty" in the eyes of God.
People are generally ignorant concerning the anointing, the office of the anointing, and the anointed person. Several years ago a delivery truck driver left a small inexpensive package for me at a neighbor's house. It was to be used in God's work. I didn't realize why I had not received it and one day the neighbor finally said they had the package.
The neighbor was outside on the walk getting groceries out of her car and would not take the time to go into their house and get the package for us. Shortly after, the neighbor drove her brand new Cadillac one of the most expensive cars made in USA into her garage The lady was blessed that she did not drown. She never got her car back and she was the "laughing stock" of three major cities as her story was on the front page of three very large newspapers. Don't mess with God's work One time, in a position of authority where God had placed me it was a secular position, but one that enabled me to do God's work , a man was who was drunk was hindering me.
I spoke the Word of God to him, and as I had my back to him he - probably the demon in him - picked up a large glass ashtray to hit me. God spoke to me instantly and emphatically, "Let me handle this! The next day the man died of a brain hemorrhage. He was a young man in his 30's. God did handle it for me. Several years ago a preacher and pastor, who I had helped much spiritually and materially, deceived me in a matter of courtship with a young lady.
I had asked him different times, "Is there anything I need to know about her? The pastor kept assuring me of her dedication. His lack of honesty, perhaps for financial gain, caused much trouble to me personally and to the work of God. Shortly after he became ill, lost much weight, and finally died young Always be honest with a man of God. People who are relatives of a man of God have to be very careful.
On the other hand After a great victory, King David returned to bless his household. His wife, Michal, spoke badly toward him because she had seen him dancing and praising God openly among other maidens. Because of her attitude towards her husband and her words to him, she had no child unto the day of her death. My in-laws had vexed me for years: I had liked my father-in-law and had looked forward to him living with us someday after he retired and was old.
One day I found out that he had said three 3 very ugly and untrue things about me. He died a while later of a very cruel and extremely painful death. I had gone to the hospital at God's direction a long distance away to visit him.
Progressive Muscle Relaxation by Noemi Schneider
The Lord showed me he needed to be able to talk to me in person and ask for forgiveness. When I arrived at the hospital, his wife, the mother-in-law, had instructed the hospital personnel not to allow me to visit him. The mother-in-law was demon-possessed. Several ministers had told her this through the years, men that I didn't even know. One time I took her to a very large Christian meeting held by a seasoned man of God who had ministered and raised up churches for around 50 years. The man of God did not know her We were seated toward the back of a very large crowd, and the preacher looked back and told her, "You have a demon!
Then he looked at me and said, "You are moving into your apostolic ministry! After she continued to cause much trouble with me, my family, and my ministry I told her one day, "Get your house in order. You are going to die for putting your hand to God's work! Both of the in-laws named the name of Jesus. I have long since forgiven them, but they turned an opportunity to be blessed into a curse! One of the churches I pastored years ago was really under a blessing of God; I had ordained the Senior Pastor before me and the Senior Pastor before him.
God was doing wonderful miracles of healing and in the lives of people. Also, we were producing about , pieces of literature a week; not to mention radio programs and tapes. I made a big mistake when I became Senior Pastor. Because I knew several of the families there and also had ordained one of my assistants the former Senior Pastor , I trusted everyone I never made sure I had control of the church. Unknown to me was demonic activity manifesting itself mainly in jealousies. As far as the ministry, my heart was pure; but overnight God's work was brought to a screaming halt.
A few people were mad because I had removed some people from their positions some were their family members and reduced the salary of others who I felt were receiving too much money. The church was then taken over by a rebellious faction. The city where this happened had never experienced a violent catastrophe, at least to my knowledge.
Not long after, that city became the epicenter for a devastating earthquake!
And God directed me into better fields!! There was a young minister who was a personal acquaintance of mine. I had ordained him into the ministry. He was a good husband and father of three children. He had wonderful compassion for people. I had some fruitful ministry in meetings he organized. Over a period of time he began to observe some abuses in a very well-known, and anointed, church where I taught as a professor in the graduate school of theology.
He began to be bitter and talk about some of the ministers including the Senior Pastor who was He should first have gone and talked to the people involved, as is outlined in this lesson under "If Your Brother Trespasses Against You", step 2. Instead of praying for the people and letting God deal with the situation, he became more bitter and slanderous. One day as he was driving down the freeway a small piece of metal fell off the back of a truck and went through his windshield, striking him in the middle of the forehead.
He died as a result, leaving a widow and three very young children. I have used several personal examples in this lesson. Some have been "buried" in my heart for years; but if they help you, or some other minister, to escape the deception and tricks of the enemy Honor the anointing, and the anointed person, as well as the anointed office or, position of authority set by God. Always use King David as an example in this regard and you'll be safe!
As a young minister I attended Kathryn Kuhlman's meetings whenever I could. Among many things I learned was this:. The Holy Spirit is God's agent on earth to supply the resurrection power of Christ! You must protect your sheep We are to bear one another's burdens [Galatians 6: In some respect, just as in evangelism, we must inform those outside the church of false doctrine. However, don't let the devil run you ragged! You could chase around trying to correct false doctrines all of your life!
The cults have all have at least one of the three errors if not all three! Be led by the Spirit of God! Follow the plain teachings of Jesus. Preach and teach the simple Gospel, apart from which there is no other gospel [1 Corinthians Obey the commission of Jesus in Matthew 28 and Mark Adhere to the "Apostles' Creed". Use the pastoral writings of Paul and Peter and John as examples for church order and discipline, and obey the Word of God as revealed in the Holy Bible.
A three-fold cord is not easily broken. Buildings designed in triangulation or with three-sided segments are stronger. Jesus sent out his apostles to:. Whether you are involved in ministry to governments, to the homeless, to the military Then you won't have to worry about false doctrines The Lord will confirm the Word of God you preach with signs following No false teaching in the world can do all three Especially like you are doing when you're anointed with LOVE! False teaching is usually "lop-sided" with emphasis on either of two large errors: University of Excellence Press.

Give it 20 seconds to load. Most Christians miss their miracles right before they will happen! How to know the tricks of the devil to hinder your prayers being answered and what to do to make sure you receive your miracles and answers to prayer from God. Most Christians miss their miracle s by one hour or one day, or by one meter or one kilometer! There are at least two reasons why Satan does not want you to receive your miracle. First , your miracle will glorify God and be a testimony.
The devil does not want anyone testifying for Christ; nor does he want anything glorifying God. The enemy hates it when you receive a miracle. Second , your miracle will bring you JOY. The devil, Lucifer, has never had joy since he was cast out of heaven, nor will he ever have joy again. He was once very handsome; God created him that way. Now he is very ugly and has to transform himself as an angel of light. Jesus said, "I beheld Satan fall as lightning. The devil is a "spirit-being"; therefore he can recognize anointing and spiritual "breakthru" when it's building up and about to happen.
If you listen to God and are led by the Holy Spirit you will be successful in obtaining your miracle s If you quit, you won't win. If you don't quit, you'll win! Lots of Christians have committed suicide right before their miracle would have happened! This is why Satan puts mental pressure on you as you approach and get nearer to your miracle. He wants to confuse your mind so you will quit , or "pull out". The devil wants you to give-up , to stop believing God in faith, so that you will ultimately give-up - not receive your miracle - and then lose hope altogether. He may use people Christians or non-Christians , he may use demons, or he may use circumstances to do this job.
Don't miss your miracle s. The miracles of God are aimed at you from every direction! If you don't quit, you'll WIN! Remember to tell your friends about the Apostle Talk podcast. Never let a person or a ministry or a church be your covering! Many people who had a powerful call of God on their lives have been deceived by the false covering false discipleship movement. Their anointing was diluted, the fire of the Spirit was quenched, and many millions of people were not reached for Christ!
This teaching will expose the teachings and the calamity of the false discipleship false covering movement, and will protect you so that you can have a VITAL ministry! In the late s and into the s there arose a damaging movement to the Body of Christ called The Covering movement. Another name for this group was the false discipleship movement. Satan realized he could NOT stop the great outpouring of the Spirit, so he devised a means whereby he would use a sector of the church - and some Christian leaders - to slow it down and divert it: There were several popular teachers involved in this movement, however, not many were brilliant expositors.
Their teaching went to excess so far as to be used by Satan to quench true evangelistic and prophetic ministry with the result that false prophetic ministries came into being. Some of the excesses were as follows: I knew a pastor who was near death in the hospital. A person was taking the pastor flowers and was told they must first submit the idea to elders.
He had a flourishing and powerful youth ministry. He felt the Lord leading him to start a church, however, the pastor and elders of his church told him not to start it. A well known pastor friend of mine called me and asked me is I would come counsel the young man. I had just returned from a very exhausting six weeks in Africa and told my friend I would pray about it. On the third day, I called my friend and said, The Lord wants me to counsel the young man.
I went to the home of the pastor, and during dinner the Spirit came upon me. I spoke to the young man and give Him the directive from the Lord: Go back there and start a church! That church has grown so large it has three 3 locations in two states at the boundary of two states. That church has, I think, over 10, people now and has been sending missionaries all over the world. I knew a powerful pastor who also had a ministry gift of evangelism. This pastor had ministered for years and moved into a new geographic area.
He felt God leading him to evangelize at the local university. During the time of his getting acquainted in the new city he was fellowshipping with some brethren in a local church. He thought it would be nice to invite them to evangelize with him. The elders of the church were involved in the covering movement and told him NOT to evangelize at the university. When he asked them what they would do IF he did so, they answered, We will come against you with everything we have in the name of Jesus!
This man was one of the greatest pastors I have ever known, and who also worked with some of the best missionary organizations in the world. Many young people, and older people coming into the call of ministry, were kept from fulfilling the will of God in their lives, as well as hindered from being used to maximum potential by the Lord. During the s the Lord sent me to around the USA and also to other countries to expose this false teaching. Lots of precious ministries were saved from shipwreck.
I can think of pastors who each have thousands of people in their congregations now who were under the bondage of the false covering movement, and who saw the light as God used me to expose it. These young men and women went on to OBEY what the Lord was telling them and started their own ministries with the result of cities and nations being reached for Christ.
The examples I gave you previously are just of few of the multitudinous extremes of this Satanic strategy. The reason that Satan tries to get people deceived into the false covering trip is because he was once the anointed cherub who covers Man is NOT your covering; neither is a ministry or a church. If you think so, try this - The next time you start to get into a wreck or have an accident, see whose name you call on: The Hebrew word for atonement is caphar and is a primitive root which means to cover , figuratively to cancel, to cleanse, be merciful, to forgive, and to purge.

A trip to Siargao won't be complete without surfing. Known as the Philippine's top surfing destination, surfers from different parts of the country and even the world visit Siargao to ride this island's beautiful waves.
As I was told, the waves here are generally good for the entire year, but there are months when they are ginormous, which is known as the surfing season. But still, if you come here at any time of the year, you're still sure to ride some good waves. I did some surfing there on my first day. I went to Cloud Nine and spoke to one of the instructors there, who asked about my background in surfing.
I told him that I had been surfing for a year. While I can catch waves on my own just fine, I decided to get an instructor for one reason: I have never surfed on a reef break and I heard scary stories about people getting cut by sharp reefs because of strong currents. So for me, the idea of surfing on a reef break was daunting. After chit-chatting for a bit, my instructor went off to fetch two boards: And then we were off. From Cloud Nine, there are three surfing spots.
To the left is Jacking Horse, which is recommended for beginners. Then just in front of the Cloud Nine tower is Cloud Nine itself, where the locals and pros usually surf. Lastly, there's Quicksilver, which is underrated but a great spot as well. My instructor took me to Cloud Nine and the moment that I hit the waters, I knew why this is the country's top surfing destination.
The waves were huge and glassy, and absolutely beautiful. There were even barrels. The only other people surfing there were local kids who seemed like pros. I even asked my instructor if he was sure that he's going to let me surf on Cloud Nine. He said I'll be just fine. It was scary at first but my instructor guided me and told me which side to paddle out on. He told me which waves to ride. I went on long rides and I was really stoked after. It was probably one of the best surf sessions I had.
Days two, three, and four were for touring the island, so I only got to surf again on my fifth and last day. My flight was around noon so I only had that morning to surf. I woke up to a really bad hangover from partying the night before but I really pushed myself to wake up before 6am so I can surf. This time, I went to Jacking Horse and rented a board. They made me use a fun board, which is smaller compared to what I am used to. I paddled out to the spot that is on the left side of Cloud Nine tower. The waves that day were smaller compared to the waves on day one, which is perfectly fine with me.
I caught a few waves and had lots of fun, and I would not have it any other way. It was my last day on the island and it was perfect. My trip to Siargao had its ups and downs, just like any other vacation. In the end, it's the good memories that will stay. The moment that I saw the island from the window of the plane, it was love at first sight.
The moment that I first paddled out into its waters, I knew I was home. It was my home away from home, and I vow to return. When I just learning how to surf, surfing in Cloud Nine was just a dream. So imagine how teary-eyed I almost was when I finally did it. I was on a high. This is my second to the last post about my Siargao trip. I'll soon be posting an itinerary and a quick travel guide. For now, let me end this post with this breathtaking photo of the Cloud Nine board walk taken from Jacking Horse.
Kita bercakap Thai, kita panggil diri kita khon Thai Orang Thai. Apabila bercakap Melayu, kita panggil diri kita Siam.
Apabila speaking, kita sebut Siamese.

By Kent Davis Originally posted at http: Their investigation reveals that the legal and moral issues surrounding the ownership and sale of ancient art are quite complex.
In this case, one generous art collector may actually provide a positive solution. But like a good Indiana Jones movie, the real story of this lost treasure began with a flash of archaeological insight in a remote Asian jungle half a world away. Mystery of the Missing Men of Koh Ker. One thousand years ago, the Khmer Empire ruled most of what is now Southeast Asia from its capital in Angkor.
Apart from a few stone inscriptions, however, no written records of the civilization survived. Out of necessity, archaeologists have had no alternative but to piece the story of the Khmer people together, clue by clue and stone by stone.
There they built the city of Koh Ker, a huge new complex of temples and shrines, where they established their throne for a brief 16 year period AD. Like all great Khmer cities, Koh Ker was ultimately abandoned and swallowed up by the jungle. At Koh Ker, Warrack noticed two distinctive pedestal platforms in the first enclosure of Prasat Chen.
There, by the west gopura an entry structure , he saw the feet where two statues had clearly been broken off. But the gods that once stood there were nowhere to be found. The mystery sparked his imagination. Virtually Connecting Ancient Dots…and Stones. From my own research cataloging the devata of Angkor I can attest that field work is generally hot, uncomfortable and distracting.
Almost all of my discoveries happen at my desk in Florida examining photos taken weeks or years before at remote locations. Warrack continued his search in similar fashion. He pondered the distinctive bases and began searching for photos in books and research archives. Finally, he found a possible solution. It showed a figure identified as a dvarapala guardian at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena California.
That statue was missing its feet, but many are. The key to solving this puzzle was the unique tail at the bottom of its clothing element. After scanning images and digitally combining them Warrack confirmed the close match between the two fragments. Warrack immediately wrote a short paper to seek opinions from others in the field of Khmer studies. I met Simon in shortly after his find and the photos above come from the original article he shared with me.
Everyone who saw his image realized the importance of this observation. Determining the original location of displaced objects can be a huge help in interpreting their meaning and significance within the context of an ancient civilization. The record shows that the Norton Simon piece was acquired legitimately and is on public display for educational, artistic and cultural appreciation. But not all art ends up this way. Much of it disappears into private collections, out of view. Such was the case of the complimentary statue that stood face to face with this one more than a thousand years ago at the Khmer capital of Koh Ker.
The Long Lost Twin Reappears. When pictures began to circulate it was instantaneously clear that this was the long-lost companion to the statue Warrack had connected to the Norton Simon Museum three years earlier. Meanwhile, in New York, the matching sculpture was estimated to sell for millions of dollars. The Norton Simon Museum also acquired their piece that year. Some evidence suggests that both statues left Cambodia in the late s, but exactly when and how that happened, and who arranged it, is unknown. Regardless of the lack of facts, the ownership of both statues seems quite legal under international laws.
Which brings us to a question at the heart of this matter. Who Should Own Historical Art? My personal goal would be for historical assets to be accessible to everyone who wants to respect them, preserve them, appreciate them and learn from them. Most of us are fortunate enough to live in a free society. We can buy, sell and own personal property within the law. The laws protecting heritage assets have evolved considerably over the past few decades, and they continue to do so.
Can a government or private entity decide to demolish old structures? This happens every day in every city around the world. Sometimes historical societies rally to save a site. Was that government right? Were those people right? And who are you to judge? Do you live there?
Can a government or private entity destroy something offensive or blasphemous to their values or religion? How far does freedom of expression go? This Yale article discusses the destruction of Buddha images in the Maldives.

Near my home in Sarasota Florida a debate has run for months about erasing a mural that may promote gangs. Acts of artistic control and destruction happen all the time. Can a private group use its own funds to recover or preserve historical objects that were clearly abandoned by the original owners hundreds or even thousands of years earlier? And who owned these things before them? Odyssey Marine Exploration in Tampa Florida just got a harsh lesson in how arbitrarily this question can be answered.
Odyssey spent years working to locate and salvage a ship in international waters off the coast of Portugal. It lay, unknown and untouched for two centuries in feet of water. US courts just ruled against Odyssey and returned all the artifacts to Spain. Ironically, that silver and gold was mined in Peru by peasants working under slave-like conditions. Peru, of course, came under Spanish control in the 16th century when conquistadors brutally subjugated the Inca civilization in their quest for territory, power and treasure.
On the other side of the gold coin, salvage operations generally destroy much of the archaeological evidence that exists on a wreck site. I am quite opposed to the wholesale destruction of history to recover precious metals on land or at sea.

But in this case, Odyssey Marine consistently gathers a lot of archaeological data from their sites. And is it reasonable to ask when and how carefully archaeologists would be excavating this particular site more than half a kilometer deep? More than we would have known if the site was never found. Now the responsibility falls to Spain to educate and inspire us with their recovered objects. Do poor people have the right to take abandoned objects from public places just to survive?
There are countless examples. There will be countless more. Each situation is different. Right and wrong are not always clear.
And certainly never appear the same to opposing parties in a disagreement. Back in I bought a used car legally. But there are solutions to these issues…as there are to most human conflicts: Cultural sensitivity about who historical objects should belong to is a fairly new concept.
As noted above people have the right to own private property. This has been going on for a long time. Humans are an acquisitive species by nature. And some art collectors have proven themselves in this way, too. After a lifetime of actively hunting, obsessively gathering and painstakingly preserving the rare objects they crave…many end up donating their collections to public institutions. He began collecting Khmer artifacts 56 years ago Over the years he and his friends have shared financial gifts with the National Museum of Cambodia. During the s, Dr. Like many passionate collectors he invested his money in rare books, antiques and works of art.
Motivated by a love of art and curiosity about the objects he found, he became an increasingly sought after consulting expert for museums and archaeologists around the world. In his dreams culminated with his greatest achievement: In a statement to the New York Times Dr. Zelnik expressed the possibility that he may purchase the statue for donation to the people of Cambodia. A generous, diplomatic and expedient solution in our complex world.
The owner would be compensated for her private property, huge amounts of time and money would not be wasted on legal litigation, and the people who respect and admire the art of the Khmer people could once again see this expression of creativity in the land where it was born. I wish him success and encourage him along with Mr. Latchford and other collectors to continue sharing the objects of their passion with the world. To conclude this article I contacted Simon Warrack to ask his current ideas about the ownership of historic art. It is the value and significance of an object that should be thought of first, rather than who it belongs to.
Where is the object best valued? Where is it best appreciated? Where is it best understood? Where is it best conserved? They are in museums because they are important. The possibility now exists that, one day, they may be reunited. He is optimistic but noted that at this early stage no decisions or agreements are in place.
However, Cambodia is ready and there are at least two suitable, secure locations where the pieces could be located for public appreciation. In the National Museum, of course, but plans are also being made for a museum at Preah Vihear, the same province where Koh Ker is located.
There, the museum will become a gateway to the World Heritage Site and these figures could, once again, provide a wonderful center piece to welcome visitors from around the world. He suggests that the global exchange of art would be a good direction to head in. Or the creations of Greece, Rome, Egypt, Mexico, etc.? With communication, empathy and diplomacy we can all grow and learn. I have many drafts of articles that, for one reason or another, never got posted.
This article should have been published back in November, The rice farm outside of Luang Prabang, where we started the morning in the farmhouse overlooking the paddies and the misty mountains beyond. After seeing rice fields in so many places, I was thrilled to have an opportunity to get up close and personal with the process of growing rice, the lifeblood of much of the world.
I was eager to learn all about the process of growing sticky rice, the staple food of Laos and much of Southeast Asia. We got a very informative talk about how the farmers use salt water to separate the good from the bad seeds. This is the first of a thirteen step process.
The Mideast Conflict smokes with him. The family, sitting on the floor in the living room, is still eating breakfast. They make tea and send us out to the terrace so they can tidy up. The mother has four daughters and two sons. Yasmine and Mohammad are blind. We sit with them and drink tea. The Mideast Conflict takes his leave to go walk around the block a couple of times. He goes to see one of the witnesses from that time whom he wants to persuade to testify again. I stay there, with the women. The women think my skin is beautiful, no wrinkles.
They added two more floors onto the house. Tala says from the roof of the unfinished building you can see the intersection where my father was shot dead. We eat together with the family. The Mideast Conflict also wants some mulukhiyah. Then we leave, the sun is low in the sky. The streets are clear. On Shabbat the settlers sit with their families in their white fortresses. We stop again near the abandoned watchtower and the dead dogs.
He rolls a joint, this time I join him. The Mideast Conflict and God stay in the car. Why now all of a sudden, I ask. We go in and everyone stares at us. He says if we actually realized how much the occupation is costing us, we would stop. All those years, all the checkpoints, the watchtowers, the restricted areas, the walls, the olive trees, the stones, the barbed wire. We are detained at the checkpoint. God has an Arabic name and I have a German passport—that is suspicious. It could be forged, says the lady from the security company.
The Mideast Conflict goes to take a piss and I stand there silently. No one gives a damn that we are all completely stoned. Somehow he manages to spare us the interrogation circus. After fifteen minutes we continue on our way. Shortly after he left the army he went alone for the first time to the occupied areas. He was never allowed to eat falafel there when he was a soldier. It could be poisoned. He went there alone, but he took a weapon with him, so he could feel safe. He wore it so that everyone could see it and he ate falafel.
God has had enough and asks if we could let him out at the next intersection. God wants to go to Jerusalem. We continue on to Tel Aviv. The Mideast Conflict wants to go get drunk. I scream at him and say he should look for someone else to go drinking with. I am terrified to be on a scooter stoned and drunk, even if it is three in the morning and the streets are empty.
We feel compelled to write about the things we cannot come to terms with. By arrangement with the author. I am not a fighter. Sunset, beer, cats, music, laughter. Palm trees, burekas, coffee in paper cups, a traffic jam on the Ayalon, skyscrapers, heat. The Mideast Conflict makes himself comfortable on the back seat and starts to doze. Dead dogs are lying on the street. White laundry is drying on the roof.
