Reflections of Sunflowers (The Sunflowers Trilogy Series Book 3)
Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon. Not so different from many similar memoirs, but Ruth Silvestre still managed to draw me into their tale of renovating an old and neglected house, called Bel Air. Ruth and the characters of the village and farms are immensely likable, and although one simply knows how much hard toil is going to be involved for Ruth and her husband Mike one reads on with great glee and enjoyment.

I've read all 3 of the "Sunflowers trilogy", one after the other. I loved the descriptions of the food of the region, maybe the detailed history of cathedrals and other historical places a little less so.
Sundogs and Sunflowers: Folklore and Folk Art of the Northern Great Plains
If one intends to wander that way, however, her meticulously researched historical details would be of great interest. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I bought these Trilogy Series of "A House in the Sunflowers", as I love to read the category of "Travel" where writers let us, the readers, learn and enjoy other cultures, specially I do like reading about people who live away from the big melting pots, lost in the mountains and still connected as families and friends become a big family themselves.
I didn't quite enjoy this first book.
The writer gets lost onto too much noise of stories within the main story. I found myself "speedwritting" and not interested in what I call "the noise". Regardless, I am going to give it a second try by reading Book 2.
Reflections of Sunflowers (The Sunflowers Trilogy Series)
The author's love and appreciation for her French neighbors makes the story even better. If you liked this one, you might like Anne Loader's memoirs of buying a French farmhouse, too--her books were what made me continue to look for books like this one! Silvestre lovingly describes the land, the meals, and the way of life. You will want to head to their home for a visit! I am fortunate to have spent some time in the general area and this lovely book brought it all back.

Her descriptions of the countryside and the food! How wonderful to discover this life the way she and her family were able to do - to actually live there and become a part of the community.

Can't wait to read the other two in the series - thank you, Ruth, for sharing your adventure. What a wonderful story. All of us should have a house in France. The world would be a better place. My one critique of the book is the extensive use of the French language, the majority without translation. I felt I missed some of the story.

There are now grandchildren around to enjoy holidays in France and all that village life there has to offer, but this book also has a Reflections of Sunflowers is the final book in the Sunflowers Trilogy set in the Lot-et-Garonne, France and despite many years having elapsed since the start of their adventure Ruth still writes beautifully about their love of France and their French friends. There are now grandchildren around to enjoy holidays in France and all that village life there has to offer, but this book also has a certain amount of sadness to it.
I felt very privileged to have shared in Ruth's life from the pages of these books and appreciate how difficult it must have been to write about some of the things she shares. I will always have a great affection for the Sunflowers Trilogy and I'm so pleased to see they are now all available on Kindle as having passed on my paperbacks I can now easily re-read them. If you haven't yet read these books and enjoy life in France memoirs do give them a try as I'm certain you won't be disappointed; I think they are among the best.
