Very useful information about Costa Rica. The book is gearedtoward retirees, but the author is honest about the drawbacks and benefits of movingto Costa Rica. The information about basic services such as medical care,medical tourism, and basic information about how to mail a package was veryuseful. Lots of differences between Costa Rica and the United States, butit's still an affordable paradise and a great place to consider if you have anykind of passive income such as Social Security or an annuity and you are tiredof scraping by in the US. I wish the book had some more information for familieswith children that are looking to relocate.

It's a short read with a lotof info, straight-to-the point. Worth a read if you are considering Costa Rica.

I quickly learned I didn't know a lot of what I really needed to know for an easy relocation. In this book I try to provide advice so you won't have the same problems I did. This is not a "travel guide". It does not steer anyone to specific resorts or areas.

Extended period of time is 90 days or longer. However suggestions in this book may save you more than the price of the book before you even leave the airport; it may prove useful even for a weekend trip. Costa Rica is a developing nation - some things change rapidly; others do not seem to change even though you want them to. Unfortunately, some laws change, then get reverted back, in a matter of months. I try to keep the e-book current with major things that will impact the reader.

There are numerous books out there. Some are important, some not so much. This book is one of the best. The first half of the book is simply stated, straightforward information in brief. The second half really gives you the author's personality as he tells of various experiences which happened to him on his move to Costa Rica. Perhaps best of all, he refers you to his web site and when I emailed him with questions, he wrote me back with answers.

The John Howells book is also excellent. But if you're thinking of moving to Costa Rica, you don't want to miss Jay Schoonmaker's book. One person found this helpful.

I enjoyed reading about the authors real life experiences, it is the kind of brief and factual reporting of the things you will encounter as you make your own plans to MAYBE retire in Costa Rica. The cautionary attitude expressed by the writer, is refreshing and humorous. His accounts are detailed and up-dated as the facts on the ground in Costa Rica appear to be very fluid. His effort to keep it real make this a valuable part of my personal list of quick references, and quick read books about living in a foreign country.

Recommended reading L swett. What a wonderful introduction to Costa Rica. The descriptions painted a beautiful landscape of the country even without the colorful pictures included in the book. The book is laid out in an easy to read format and flows effortlessly from one subject to the next. Read this even if you are only visiting Costa Rica. Definitely read it if you are remotely considering a move to the Central American country.

I wish it had been available before our trip to the country a few years ago. It will be a must have reference for our next trip.
