His lover in the first book, Leiria, a female soldier, Palimak, a half-demon, half-human child whom Safar has adopted, and Khysmet, the perfect and magical steed Safar rescues. These and a variety of striking secondary characters journey on their way to a new home in fabled Syrapis across the sea. Along with way, Safar meets old friends and allies.

The book contains everything a fantasy should: While this is book 2 in the series, it can be read first without losing anything. Jul 01, Adrienne Kern McClintock rated it really liked it. Still found the book to be good, continuing with the series. While I could still see a few things coming, how they happened was a bit of a twist.
