A year ago I pulled this book off a relative's shelf and found myself captivated, even when I wasn't particularly interested in Carruth's subject matter.

Yes, you will have to use your brain when you read this -- and what a pleasure. This book took me beyond Carruth's poetry and to his slim volume of autobiographical essays, entitled Reluctantly. A true American original who stubbornly resists categorization, Carruth would be a superb subject for a brave biographer, if one can be found who is up to the task. Let us raise a glass in hope!
