Your display name should be at least 2 characters long. You could DIY by ear, but this will save you alot of time. Transcription quality seems high, as usual with Hal's books. You too can be on stage with Hendrix! This one is especially poignant to the point that we should all know how to play to these songs.

After all, this was one of your first albums ever! I promise you, you learn these songs and you will definitely be called up to play one night at a party with some great guitar player and you tell him you know any Jimi song and you'll rock the house down. Seriously, the book is straightforwardly laid out. The recordings, both with the drums and with out sound great and are mixed well. The music charts are clear and easy to follow too on bright white paper. The Slow-down feature on the CD is fantastic and worth it alone. You can bring the song down to incredible slow speeds with out losing the tone of the song to hear exactly how the parts are played.

Getting the entire series, you'll then be able to cover any rock, funk or jazz tune!

I thought I would be able to get through the transciptions quickly, but I have found it to be more advanced than I thought it would be. Not that the patterns are difficult.

Its more of the style of his playing that makes it challenging. But I guess that is a good thing from a learning perspective. It could have been better if it included more transcriptions of some other songs.

I'm a beginner and it is very helpful to have an accurate reference for songs and drummers who's work I like and want to learn from. One person found this helpful. I was a big fan of Mitch Mitchell in my early drumming years, but for me, both him and Keith Moon were always a little harder to learn by ear than, say, John Bonham. Mitch had a knack for pretty loose fills and a swampy, in-between feel that I didn't understand clearly until years down the line.

To come across this book, bring it home and give it a try just for the fun of it was a nice surprise! The transcriptions are clearly written and, what I call, accurate enough. Having said that, although the play-along tracks are quite good, once you get a good grasp of the material, try playing along with the originals. Mitch Mitchell's feel is invaluable in bringing all those notes to life.
