My Antonia: Prairie Trilogy Volume 3

As a teen in high school I had to read these books and hated them. Fast forward 50 years and I am thinking, "Well, what did I know?

I was just a kid. I have different tastes now.

Then I waded in on "The Song of the Lark. Honestly, if I had to hear one more sentence about the heroine's "expressive" back! I cannot fathom how any writer can concoct so many adjectives and paragraphs on looking at somebody from the back. I put it down, deleted it from my Kindle. I am 69 years old.

I don't have time to re-visit such trivia no matter how famous and venerated the author is. Alexandria is the main character, and is just a loveable person. The narrator paints a picture so well that the reader can see the setting of the book. It is a feel-good book with a little tragedy. The reader gets to know her family and friends quite well. Good prose, good plot. It was my book club's book of the month. It's a classic written in the 's so some descriptions of items are confusing but I enjoyed the first book and the second one is proving to be the same!
