I found this book rather fascinating. I appreciated the fact that she holds the bible in high authority and argues everything from a biblical perspective, with clarity and precision.
I hadn't explored this topic much and this book was very eye-opening, to say the least.

Feb 04, Allie rated it liked it. This book had some really compelling arguments regarding how gender roles are represented and perceived in the church, and argued that a lot of hierarchical gender roles are prescribed to the biblical texts instead of prescribed BY the biblical texts.

It's just a shame that it's written so heavily in the style of a doctoral dissertation, and therefore it was so dense that it took me a long time to slog through. Although a few years old, this examination of women and the church offers several solid arguments for an egalitarian viewpoint and was my first introduction to the topic. I would love to see a revised and updated version taking into account more recent views of the "emergent" church.
