Clarissas England: A gamely gallop through the English counties

What did you love best about Clarissa's England? I use Audio books to overcome insomnia. In order to be effective, the book must have a subject that's sufficiently interesting to keep me from my own busy thoughts, but also mundane enough to not stimulate those thoughts through the night. Clarissa's voice is melodic, her descriptions are compelling, and I'm glad to learn more about the places my ancestors came from back.. What other book might you compare Clarissa's England to and why? The Martian also works for insomnia. Which scene was your favorite?

Hunting stags from horses, netting eels for three thousand pounds, and how AA made it to the UK Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting? Got any more like this one Clarissa?
I loved rambling through England with the Fat Lady. But I was often sad when listening because Clarissa died too soon. I liked that she paused between each chapter and county she covered.
My Wishlist
I will hunt up a hard copy and with it in hand, Will listen again. I like the idea of a jolly tour around the counties, with a bit of history and quirky stories thrown in. I do like Clarissa, but I found her narration of this book a little stilted considering it's her book.
I want to say that I loved the book but somehow it just doesn't flow. Most enjoyable account of the different counties of England. I liked how Clarissa spoke about the aspects of each county which I personally did not know. I was educated in many things. However this book is not for those who are anti hunting etc. For me I was able to ignore the references to hunting to be able to take in the rest of the book. Would you consider the audio edition of Clarissa's England to be better than the print version? Never read the printed version, but enjoyed Clarissa's delivery.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Clarissa's England? Her various put downs of Tony Blair Always interesting yarns on each county and lots that I had never heard before. Which character — as performed by Clarissa Dickson Wright — was your favourite? There were too many to mention. If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be? A romp from start to finish, they don't make 'em like her anymore! Would have loved her at a dinner party, bet she would have been the last to bugger off! Another great book by Clarissa although it's more of a companion to her auto biography really, its not one to start off with.

If you have read Spilling The Beans and Rifling through my drawers then it really is a must. If you could sum up Clarissa's England in three words, what would they be? Self centred, quirky, interesting. She doesn't read particularly well, but the stories are varied.
My Shopping Bag
Clarissa Dickson Wright is fascinating, but rather odious. She picks up on interesting facts and has many tales, but I don't believe she was a nice person. On balance, this book confirmed my doubts about her. Personable superficially, but hard and ruthless.
I'm so glad I have never met anyone of this woman's peers Her first book, I quite enjoyed for what is was, a confession of utterly pointless life. Well I don't know why a tabloid never picked this up. In my opinion disgraceful racist commentary on her getting lost in Leicester This book is awful, a boring dirge She name drops constantly, gives plus points to places for having a good shop to buy silver service.
She applauds Eton for turning out drones.
If there ever there is a revolution Clazza 'sic, and her Ilk will be the straws that breaks the Camels back. Ordinary people don't meet her people When or if they do, it won't be pretty.
