This book is a quick read full of sound Christian reasoning. I have found it helpful by shedding fresh light on the topics of the day. Quick read - full of sound reasoning. I bought a couple of these books to read and hand out to my teenage nephews. She and Josh McDowell prompted me to dig deeper into being a better apologist and expressing my personal Biblical worldview with boldness.
Janet knows the marketplace and uses Pilgrim's Progress to frame a modern worlview study. It is so easy and fun to read that you don't realize the deep truths you are learning. I recommend this for Middle School ages and up. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I like the book it's just at times it felt like I was reading a thesis paper, which is the reason I gave it four stars. The author believes, I believe, in fighting culture wars, though she defended her belief I still disagree with it. Other than that the book had great content and it was loaded with practical truths that I will tuck away in my memory bank.
And get the book it's worth your time. Janet Parshall is my favorite for information and her book rates tops with me. Very helpful information on how to live in this world and be a christian. One person found this helpful. Very informative and we'll written. Using Bunyan's pilgrim as a parallel to put our current world into perspective. I encourage everyone to read this book. Janet inspires me to live my life for Christ and not for myself. Thanks for encouraging us to be bold in the marketplace of ideas!

I've had several conversations lately about the strange situation of worldview and apologetics in today's world. We live in a golden age of apologetics: I'm not saying that every question has an answer that forces assent; it's still possible to disbelieve, as I am sure it always will be until Christ returns. What I mean is that it's possible to believe on good evidential and rational grounds. Something similar is true for worldview issues: Yet oddly the Church remains virtually untouched by it all. Pastors and laymen are as little equipped as ever.
Thinking Christian
One reason for this, as I've come to find out by asking people in a position to know, is that too little of the available knowledge has been translated to a level suitable for everyday use by everyday Christians. Janet Parshall's new book Buyer Beware: Finding Truth in the Marketplace of Ideas is a welcome exception. The book begins with John Bunyan, author of Pilgrim's Progress, and it touches base frequently with his character "Christian's" journeys in that great classic, with special attention to that old marketplace of ideas, "Vanity Fair.
She explores whether our purpose as Christians includes influencing the spheres of culture and politics, and concludes that even though there may be challenges, as there were for the prophet Jeremiah, we are indeed called to be involved there. She treated the story of Paul's imprisonment, for example Acts 16, esp. Janet Parshall is clearly at home with her material, and more importantly, is able to make the reader feel increasingly at home with it.

The book is filled with a wide range of topics that relate to the world we live in today. The author, who is a well known radio talk host, uses biblical principles to write about how Christians should react and relate to what is going on in the world around us. Another reason is how complicated some of the paragraphs felt as I read through them. I had to reread some of them just to get to the point of what was being written. On the positive side I did walk away from the book with a better understanding of how important it is to read your Bible every day. I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading.

Jan 28, Steve rated it liked it Shelves: This book examines the modern Vanity Fair ala John Bunyan and the many ideas that are being bought and sold in the modern marketplace. Discussing several different hot button issues debated in society today the author draws on scripture particularly the letters of Jeremiah and Paul to present a Christian view on these ideas. The author did a good job of tying in Pilgrim's Progress, Bunyan's life and the experiences of the exiles in Babylonian captivity into her discussion.
