Blue Heron Marsh: A Webb Sawyer Mystery

Should we go back? At the same time there was a knock on the front door. Jennie went to the front window and looked outside. It was the nosey neighbor from the previous night. He gestured toward the driveway. Henry was boxed, trapped between two four-story warehouses. He leaned back against the brick fascia, his head thrown back, gasping for breath. He felt dizzy from the exertion and the hot stifling air.

He surveyed his surroundings.

Trash bins stood against the back wall. There were no outside fire escapes or ladders. He eased himself up to the corner and looked around, down toward the entrance. The truck that he had cut in front of was parked at the curb, blocking his vision, also blocking vision into the alley. More trash bins lined the right side of the alley, all the way to the front. There were no entrances to the building on that side, but the opposite building had three doors. Hide in one of the trash bins?

No one had yet appeared at the front of the alleyway. Henry slipped around the corner. He wondered if he should just retrace his steps and get out of this trap. If Allweather and Timms see me, there's no way I can outrun them, he concluded. Try the doors first. He tried them, one after the other.

They wer all locked. He went back and hammered on them with his fists. Too much time passing. At any moment they were bound to backtrack and check this alley. Henry stepped across from the last of the doors, the one closest to the street, and peered into one of the trash bins. He made his decision.

He would bury himself under the empty boxes and paper, and wait it out. He grabbed the edge of the bin with both hands and pulled himself up, throwing his right leg up and over. He was hanging in that position when he heard Timms' yell. He's in here, sir! Add Photos View All. Just Released July Pelican Point: Until he gets hit over the head in the Nags Head Pier parking lot. Great Blue Heron at Pawleys Island

This is the third author I have read whose books take place on the Outer Banks. I have loved all of them. Pat Conroy and Anne Rivers Siddons are the other two. Somehow the location becomes a character in these books. I find myself wanting to go to the Outer Banks to see Webb and go fishing with him and eat one of his fish dinners.

Quinn, you have done a wonderful job with this book.

For those who want cover to cover action and something always has to be happening, skip this book. If you want to sit back with a glass of tea or a cup of coffee or Webb's favorite brand of beer and savor the atmosphere and get to know a nice man, I recommend this book. A fiction set on the Outer Banks of NC. The mystery goes through several twists and turns to a surprise ending. Locals on the Outer Banks will find it particularly entertaining. At a very young age a small black child witnessed the most horrid thing imaginable.

Four rich white kids from an uppity prep school showed up one night forcing the boy's father to get into one of the vehicles. The boy knew something was wrong so he ran after the cars to see what was going on. The father was brutally beaten, hanged and tar pitch was poured on his private areas. As the six year old could only watch in mute horror, he burned the image of those boys in his mind and later he would seek his revenge. Webb Sawyer was newly released from the psychiatric ward.

He murdered a man while in Sarajevo serving in the Army, and he was given the option to not be prosecuted if he spent some time in the loony bin. The terrorist murdered the brother and father of a girl he fell in love with, the girl was also gang raped and forced to watch her family die. Most everyone saw him as a hero. Webb's girlfriend Nan wanted him to help solve a murder but he refused.

On the way back home Nan saw another woman boating over to Webb's fishing shack that also doubled as his home. In a fit of jealousy she ran off with a man she played chess with on the Internet and married him. Webb decided to help Amanda Eure, prove her friend Clara's innocence. It was a very tangled web of murders and lies. Amanda was a user but Webb would find that out a little too late.

Who was killing these successful men in such an atrocious manner? Was it the little boy looking for revenge or did someone else have a hand in framing someone? Webb had been betrayed and then when he found out the awful truths he did not know what to do. Bring the person in for doing the exact same thing he did in Sarajevo Blue Heron Marsh is an addictive mystery novel that captivates the reader and transports them into the story. I felt like I was following along throughout the whole adventure right by Webb's side.

Masterfully detailed characters and story line keeps the reader wanting more. There were secondary characters that brought their own special touch to this novel and I think it was just perfect. A great murder mystery at its best written by the skilled hands of Douglas Quinn well deserves all 5 hearts! See all 11 reviews.
