Before she was a powerful hybrid, she was a victim of the vampiric system, one where hybrids are discriminated against and punished for being different, while being groomed to become a weapon if they're among the gifted. It wasn't expected for her to fall in love with a full blood vampire, especially after having her heart smashed by her hybrid counter. Brazen was there to pick up the pieces, and though she hated the full bloods for the torture they put her through, Araya learned Brazen was different. Araya distanced herself from Hale, doing her best to never need him or see him again, but fate had other plans.
When dark forces arise, the United is forced to gather its best, and she and Hale are among the elite. His love for her hasn't wavered, and he refuses to let her go without a fight. Brazen is just as determined, so Araya becomes the rope in a desperate game of tug of war. Kindle Edition , Box Set , pages. To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up. So to myself I say: View all 5 comments. Apr 21, Angela Dossett rated it it was amazing Shelves: I purchased this trilogy after reading another trilogy by this author. She has the amazing ability to capture your attention. I quickly devoured this trilogy. It should come with the warning of "HOT".
You will need tissue for your eyes and a fan to cool you down. This trilogy was awesome. It does have a love triangle, but I have to admit, the ending works for me. There were some typos and grammar mistakes throughout the book, but those did not deter too much for the story. I found th I purchased this trilogy after reading another trilogy by this author.
I found the characters to be intense, funny, and there were times I just wanted to ring necks. It has mystery, suspense, intrigue, actions, abilities, hot romance and betrayal. I was swept into the world of hybrids and full bloods. This world was made so realistic by this author. Her attention to detail was right on. It has many twists and turns, and amazing supernatural abilities. Araya is a gifted hybrid. Her life hasn't been easy.
Despite traumatic events in her life, she has managed to make a life for herself. She is kind and caring, but can be a force to reckoned with towards those who would violate those of lesser class, especially "The Forgotten". She is a lead interrogator for an organization, "The United".
Her love life is somewhat problematic. She loves her counter hybrid, Hale, but he has left her devastated too many times and there is Brazen, a full blood who is nothing but kind and loyal. She will face many obstacles that threaten her life and others.

It hits so many different emotions. There was times it pissed me off and then times where I was happy and had sad tears going down my cheeks. It's vampires and half-bloods. They h I loved this trilogy. They have so many obstacles in their way that they have to fight. Overall this book was wonderful. Jan 08, Ashleyjo rated it it was ok. You cheated on me you wild, crazy, cardinal, half-breed! Oh, it was a blood fuck?
Well, then, shit, why didn't you say so! Please forgive my harsh words. Who she'd ultimately choose was obvious, but the author made sure to make a spectacle out of it again, again, again, and Summarized- Him: Who she'd ultimately choose was obvious, but the author made sure to make a spectacle out of it again, again, again, and again; suffice to say that the female MC was engaged to these two guys FOUR different times, two a piece, in the span of the series. My sweet bejeezus, everything these SOBs say is a "coo," "grunt," "grumble," "whimper," or "mummer.
Yes, I'm an idiot and need to know she cooed a seductive line or grumbled a line of irritation Way too much sex, way too often! I felt like I had jumped down a really cheesy vampire love triangle porno rabbit hole. She does finally make a decision between the guys, but the author wimped out and made it very clear that the female MC would be able to have her cake and eat it too through a shared immortality with the guy not chosen.
Sorry, but years of pinning over someone that you were second place with just seemed harsh, unfair, and tragic for the character not chosen!!! PLOT The plot takes awhile to surface. A lot of it seemed to abruptly come to a standstill never to be explained or returned to as something else was presented. The finale was way too nicely tied up with bows to make everything perfect for the characters. If it was that easy for change, why centuries of mistreatment between the multiple races?
It was all just too easy and perfect for such a harsh, dangerous world. In the Shatter Me series, I wanted more; I wanted to know the characters would be okay and have a happy ever after, but the reality was that the genius author understood she couldn't give readers that after taking them through a horrid world of danger and uncertainty.
Such a bow tie ending wouldn't have been real or applicable in Shatter Me, and it was no more applicable here even if this author decided to give it. For example, the "unspoken" wasn't realistically going to just be accepted after centuries of being forbidden and a death sentence. She cries as much as she kicks ass in the book.
She could be an unwavering loyal ally with a tender heart or your worst f'ing nightmare that'd show you no mercy. She was relatable, even if I didn't care for how she handled her sexual relationships. Hale had me hooked on his cocky ass until he hurt her in an inexcusable way. His love was clear, but I never got over the stupidity. Brazen was steamy and proved his devotion to her with a love that was sweet, albeit tragic for him. All to be neatly wrapped up in shinny bow at the end, then you'll love the series.
Since the entire series is only. Sep 06, Debbie Turk rated it it was amazing. It's as hot as hell. Frustrating but so full of emotion in all extremes it blew me away!! Mar 21, Amy Dexter rated it it was amazing.
The Beautiful Cursed (The Cursed Trilogy, #1) by Elisabet Rouen
It's not that I particular like or dislike supernatural books, it's the fact the CM Owens I'd a brilliant writer. You just get drawn into the world she's creating. Again it's a pleasure to read something which has depth to it and takes time to read, rather than it be over in an few hours.

Jan 23, Bailey rated it it was amazing Shelves: Holly hale I loved these books! Araya was a little wishy washey with hale and brazen but it wasn't that bad. I liked how she had attitude but was still sweet at times. Mar 07, Cheryl rated it it was amazing. Jun 23, Julie Kuhn rated it really liked it. I loved the storyline of this book.
Araya was the protector of all the kids. Will they all survive the war that's coming? I really became invested. Oct 12, Merissa Archaeolibrarian rated it really liked it Shelves: For the first time in a long time, I have struggled to decide whether to give three or four stars I don't do halves. I have decided to go with the four star simply because I did enjoy the book as a whole. The premise of this story is fascinating. The world is pretty much divided into 3 species - the full bloods 'normal' vampires , hybrids born of a vampire and human mix and the humans.
Every species looks down on the other but the hybrids are looked down upon by both. The hyb For the first time in a long time, I have struggled to decide whether to give three or four stars I don't do halves. The hybrids themselves are split into two categories - the gifted and ungifted. Obviously the world isn't perfect and there are attempts to dislodge the government system they have in place. This is the part of the story that pulled me in and kept me turning the pages.
I would have loved to read so much more about this world.
The Winner's Curse: The Winner's Trilogy, Book 1
There could have been so much more given. Instead, the story focused on a love triangle between Araya hybrid , Hale her 'counter' hybrid and Brazen full blood. This is where my interest got lost. I never thought I'd say this but I became bored with the sex that happened on every page. I know that Araya was supposed to be confused and love both of them but her wildly swinging emotions were giving me motion sickness! I really couldn't be bothered to read through the sex scenes and was never sure if it was Hale or Brazen that she was with.
By the time I reached book 2, I didn't care anymore. I spent the rest of the trilogy skimming through the numerous sex scenes just to make sure I didn't lose any of the plot within there. Just who is Araya really? Or should that be 'what' is she? Who is behind all the attacks and why are they happening? Who can be trusted? These are all questions that will be answered in these books but you will have to wade through the sex scenes to find them.
I enjoyed this series but would have preferred the onus to be on the war, who Araya is etc rather than the love triangle. Aug 26, Rebecca rated it liked it. Well it could be a 4. I don't know how many times I almost just deleted it while reading the first book, but I hate doing that so I stuck with it.
Actually I found out it could be a heck of a lot better if it was just edited!

There was also a word used wrong in this book and that is a big pet peeve of mine. I hate it when someone uses a saying but puts in a wrong word. It just makes them sound stupid to me, so CM. The word you mean to use is well.. The first time I read the saying I thought it was a typo until it was used over and over and the word was still wrong each time.
I can't even remember the darn saying now but I remember the word whelp was the wrong word and it should have been well. It's enough screw up the flow of the book. Another thing was there was just way too much sex. I know lol I don't mind some good sex scenes but God! As she gets to know him, she finally discovers his real name -- Arin -- and that he's a master of a parlor strategy game she used to always win; she has finally met her match. Suddenly the two are grist for the rumor mill, only made worse when Kestrel defends Arin against a stealing charge at a society party.
But Arin doesn't want her to defend him. He knows that once Kestrel discovers his secret plans against those who enslave him -- her people -- she'll regret anything she ever felt for him. Take the book cover's 90 percent pink frill and lipstick and 10 percent intrigue of "look, she's got a dagger in her hand" and flip the percentages: There's the real essence. Despite a couple of society balls and some star-crossed lovers, this book gets quite cerebral. Arin and Kestrel's relationship builds carefully and is pretty complex, especially as the power dynamic shifts.
How Arin manages to break slave rules and enjoy parlor games with Kestrel seems a bit odd, but that's usually when Kestrel lets her guard down the most, pushing the story forward. Most writers would have enough on their plates just keeping Kestrel and Arin's slow-simmering relationship this full of tension.
Rutkoski, however, keeps the political intrigue high at the same time. The building tension between Arin and the leader of the rebellion adds quite a bit to the last third of The Winner's Curse. And the last few pages will make reading the sequel pretty irresistible. What does it mean? What does it have to do with the main characters? What other pairs in literature fit the definition?
