It's not a difficult read, but it raises some serious questions. For me mad, because there have been things that I'd simply taken because I too had been brainwashed into thinking it was okay for me to be bullied because of this. It also reinforced things that I had concluded made more sense than what Surprising read, regarding our obsession with weight-loss, fat-prejudice, and how all the rhetoric that we are being told is the truth is, in fact, misleading and potentially harmful to us in the end.

It also reinforced things that I had concluded made more sense than what I had been fed all my life.

As a full-figured woman who constantly struggles with her weight and with societal beliefs about weight, about being fat, I was intrigued to read Dr. Lonie McMichael's Talking Fat: Health vs Persuasion in the War on Our Bodies. There is a prejudice against fat that runs rampant throughout the country.

McMichael states early in her book that this prejudice is "based on two faulty premises: What is it about? To name a few, prejudice, money, and scapegoats. This book is personal, it's critical, and it's expansive.
