Sure, there was a lot to learn from Graves rendition, and I appreciated his rational explanations for the so-called miracles, but he stretched the story of the Life of Jesus to unbelievable limits and conjectures, and that's even AFTER accepting the remote possibility that the eldest of Herod the Great's kids, Herod Antipas, MAY have been the true father of Jesus. I'm sorry, I had high hopes for this, and I'm a big fan of Graves usually, but if there is a justification for this book, it's the fact that it's clearly described as a novel, and that's how it should be cataloged, as fiction.

To get closer to the true and accurate historicity of the new Testament stories, I would heartily recommend Schonfield, even though he has his own detractors.
