Doctor Cyclops (movie tie-in)
Dr. Cyclops
Prime Video Verified Purchase. The only other movie directed by Ernest B. Schoedsack that tops this is King Kong! Great Story, Great Color photography and there special effects are well done. One person found this helpful. Nostalgia is key here. One of the childhood movies that used to scare. I enjoyed this movie. There are some really cool scenes like when Dr. Cyclops puts on his helmet and turns on his cool machine. It gives a really eerie effect.
The actor who plays the doctor is very well cast and must certainly go down as one of the classic villains in horror history. The down side is it takes what could be a true story shrinking people and puts in things that are impossible. For example Doc Cyclops first dresses his little friends in very simple clothes made out of hankerchiefs.
But somehow in just a few hours they inexplicibly stack up a bunch of books that are bigger than they are to open the door and then create all new cloths for themselves. These aren't just simple clothes either like the girl has a nice blue dress. Also when they do this it seems like they are actually enjoying themselves like they are having a good time. But after that it gets more realistic again.

Film historian John Brosnan has written of Dr. As with Charles Laughton 's version of Dr. Moreau, his evil is not a byproduct of scientific zeal but a deliberate choice of action.
The special effects deserve a mention, being ingeniously contrived and rather convincing, but the film is also noteworthy for its two unintentional references to the war that was about to engulf the world and end with the prospect of a nuclear apocalypse - Thorkel draws the power for his device from a 'radium mine' and, with his shaven head and thick, round glasses, he resembles the wartime caricature of the 'beastly Jap.

For one thing, the film DR. This novelization runs only about thirty pages in the Popular Library paperback reprint which itself is odd, as it's called DR CYCLOPS but has a cover illustration of spacemen and robots unrelated to the title story. The magazine version was credited to "Will Garth" for some reason; maybe Kuttner already had a story or two in that issue and the editors wanted to entice potential readers with a wider range of authors.
The story is a bald retelling of the film's plot, with very little fleshing out of the characters or the implications of the story.

There are a lot of one sentence paragraphs, and many of these are simple lines of dialogue. The style Kuttner later used, which could show whimsical fantasy or unsettling horror ever read "The Graveyard Rats"? The short story by Kuttner is slight and not really worth seeking out. The movie itself, however, is a classic that still remains entertaining.
