The Unexpected Gift

Time travel is tricky and it is skillfully managed here. Even if you aren't a big sci-fi reader, I think you can enjoy this character-driven novel. I didn't really know what to expect when I started reading this, I chose it completely on a whim and largely because of its rather intriguing title. I do feel a little mean only giving it 3 stars as the writing really is superb and I did love the humour that was found throughout, however dark it got. And it would've gotten more if it wasn't for the ending. I really did not enjoy it, it felt a little too convenient and slightly forced in order to set things up for the next book.

I'm wondering whe I didn't really know what to expect when I started reading this, I chose it completely on a whim and largely because of its rather intriguing title. I'm wondering whether an editor has gotten a little over zealous or there was some kind of pressure to have this ending, but it was just too neat for me, especially compared to a majority of similar time-travelling type books, I'm sure there should've been more loose ends. I think I will carry on with the series though as there is a lot of promise in this one and I suspect it will only get better I hope so at least!

When I began this book, I wasn't too sure about it.

The Unexpected Gift of Joseph Bridgeman

However, as I got into it more, and became more familiar with the characters, I became engrossed in the story. Joe lost his sister, without a trace, in When he discovers he can travel through time, he makes it his purpose to go back and save his sister. Much of the book is Joe trying to find a way to go from to through time. He recruits his friend, Mark, and his hypnotherapist, Alexia, to help him find and save Amy. I enjoyed th When I began this book, I wasn't too sure about it. I enjoyed the characters, and their interaction with Joe in an attempt to help him save Amy.

Most of the book is Joe overcoming obstacles to his overall goal. I was pleasantly surprised in the twists and turns to the story in the last 50 pages or so. The ending was unexpected, and I am anxious to read the next installment of Joe's story. There are a bunch of wee little boo-boos in the book minor missing words like 'to' and 'the', caps that should be lowercase, and too many italicized words BUT, I'm going to give it five stars anyway, because I enjoyed it so much.

I didn't mind the slower beginning or getting to know all the various characters and sideline dramas hopefully we'll hear about some of these people again in the next book, especially his childhood friend. I guess I enjoyed being in this guy's head, finding humour even in his depression and grief and regret, his socially awkward ways. And I really liked the record-playing analogies, how they related to time travel.

A highly enjoyable time travel tale with a compelling mission at its core. Unlike others in the genre, the book is very accessible and doesn't blind the reader with science.

The main character, Joe, is a bit of a pillock at times but I was absolutely rooting for him to achieve his goal. The novel is very British - gentle, meandering, funny and punny and warm without being overly sentimental. All in all, remarkably good for a kindle freebie. I look forward to the forthcoming sequel. An unexpected gift indeed I was looking for a new book and wanted something by someone I had not heard of before. I came across this and it ticked all my boxes. The story suited what I was looking for, the size of the book was perfect and it was a new author to me From the first chapter the book was engaging and you your interest in the main character is maintained throughout.

It's not the most difficult of stories to work out but in my opinion that does not detract from the pleasure of reading it An unexpected gift indeed I was looking for a new book and wanted something by someone I had not heard of before.

Highly recommended, I for one will be reading more Nick Jones books. A excellent addition to the time travel gendre Drama, danger and suspense I enjoyed this addition to the time travel gendre, however it was hard to get started as I felt the first chapters were slow to get to the main plot.

As a fan of time travel stories this reminded me of Jack Finney's novel "Time After Time" which I first read in high school and again for the 4th time this year, which was made in to a wondert movie - this tale by Nick Jones should also make it to the big screen. I look forward to further adventures with Joe, Amy and Alexia. If I could, I would probably give this a 2. For a good third of the book I didn't like it, but I was curious to see what would happen and how everything would work. I don't like the writing style and I find Joseph Bridgeman very, very annoying. I stuck with it and was pleasantly surprised that my guesses about what would happen were wrong.

However, the ending was sloppy - I think it was trying to make me want to read the next installment, but it just felt like Jones didn't know how to end the story.

I won't be reading any more of these books so I suppose I will never find out what happens. It doesn't bother me much. Joseph Bridgeman has problems. A tendency to slip back and forth in time is not the least of them, but it is a long way from the greatest. That honor, or curse, belongs to unresolved guilt over the disappearance of his young sister when he was little more than a child himself. You'd think that a time traveler would have options when it comes to resolving a mystery buried in his past.

You'd be right, but there's nothing straightforward about time travel. Nick wrote a good story here. His character Joseph Bridgeman has problems. His characters are strong and their problems are compelling. I enjoyed the book enough to buy the second in the series.

Y empiezan a pasar cosas. Y me ha gustado mucho. Y espero que saquen una segunda parte. I love time travel books and I loved this, which is so much more. It's difficult to review without spoilers but it met all of my great books criteria - it grabbed me straight away, it was impossible to put down, it didn't flop half way through as so many books do , the final reveal was ingenious and it haunted me long after I finished it.

I read the last few short chapters twice, mainly because I enjoyed them so much. The book is complete in itself and there is no hint of a sequel but Brilliant! The book is complete in itself and there is no hint of a sequel but the final paragraph gives hope that maybe there could be. If there is, I'll be first in line to buy it. I am not good at writing reviews on the books I have read. However, I just want Mister Jones to know that I highly enjoyed his novel. With the plethora of free books on Amazon, I have the luxury of discarding the books that don't grab me in the first few pages.

I did, however, pay for this one, and luckily enough, it grabbed me. Great character development, I really enjoyed Joe. So there are my few lines. If you enjoy time travel books, you don't want to miss this one. I'm looking fo Outstanding! I'm looking for a sequel, is there one? I loved the way that Joe's character changed over the time of the story. He went from not caring about anything but his sister to caring about others. I like that i didnt know what would happen as i tried to figure out what might come next.

Time travel is a risky business as this book shows us.

I lost a brother when he was 11 so I could feel what he was thinking and why it ma this book was so great I could not wait to get to the next parts all was great , of course each better than the last one. See a Problem?

Great job and well written This was a fun and sometimes very funny read about Joseph Bridgeman and his extraordinary gift of time travel. While a bit slow and redundant in parts, overall very nicely done. Good plot line following the main character as he tries to get a handle on his gifts and change a major past trauma at the same time.

My husband, because he supported me. Starting your own business is a huge risk and at the age of forty-five, I was starting from scratch. I left behind a job with a salary, benefits and a pension. When we discussed opening my store, we decided that it was worth it and if it did not work, we would figure it out.

Without his support, I would not have had the confidence to take this on. He is my inspiration! To what do you most attribute your success? What would say are the five key elements for starting and running a successful business? The willingness to take a chance and run with it. For me, the key elements are maintaining a culture of respect and gratitude for the people that work here and those that frequent the store. Compassion for others is huge — being open and honest and not just looking to make a sale.

I believe that shows people I am open to provide an honest service and it makes them want to come back. Integrity, I believe in the products I sell and the services we provide. Lastly, the willingness to keep learning.

She probably knew as she patiently stitched it that she would never meet the child for whom she was sewing. I still tear up every time I look at it. I played with him until he fell apart, and then I played with him some more.

As a musician and father, I knew that was not likely to be a possibility.
