Awareness of her defeat. His slow smile curved his mouth. He dipped his head, grazing her soft cheek with his own. Her indrawn breath hissed near his ear and deep satisfaction smoldered through him.

Time to pay the piper. That was why I read this book and I was fully satisfied. Sins of a Wicked Duke by Sophie Jordan came with exclusive package: Fallon O'Rourke hates aristocrats. They separated her father from her. They even sent her to a school with a teacher who loved to use violence against children. She never saw her father again until the day he died. Struggle for living, she needs a job. It's so much easier to work without having to worry the risk of her presence as a woman. So when she gets the chance, she cuts her beautiful hair, dress like a man, and take the job. She doesn't notice the request is from the Duke of Damon's household. So she under covers as Francis the footman.

Fallon doesn't know that Dominic has never stopped thinking about a tall amazon woman with striking colour of hair and sensual face, a face that has been haunted him since the first time he met her. Dominic Hale makes himself lost in hate. He has been living in sin to bring shame to his vicar grandfather.

He believes that he's not able to feel anything to anyone in his lonely and empty life. But he doesn't aware that the woman he's been looking for is in his house, working as a footman. This undercover thing was hilarious! One was too hard showing that he was uncapable of loving. The other one was too stubborn to admit that she needed him in her life. Yeah, kitchen counter it was. Kinda awkward, though they still reached bed, eventually. So many fireworks in their relationship that could burn you and touch your heart.

Dominic's relationship with his grandfather was also very interesting. Sins of a Wicked Duke was one of the few romance books with common theme but held my attention throughout the story. The message was clear: Apr 20, Ally72 rated it it was amazing Shelves: I have read all of Sophie Jordan's books and I think she just keeps getting better! Not much depth but overall a satisfying, light love story. Jan 08, Bookaholic reads every mortal thing rated it it was ok Shelves: Damn you, high expectations. Jun 12, Jessa rated it did not like it Shelves: Having liked Sophie Jordan in the past, this book is a disappointment and in particular felt like a poor imitation of A Duke's Temptation by Jillian Hunter.

The story begins with Fallon who has grown mistreated in a poor and demeaning orphanage. Because of her striking appearance and red hair, has a hard time keeping a position inside a respectable household. After the son of her employer makes unwanted advances she flees.

This is all quite standard for books in this period. Fallon decides the o Having liked Sophie Jordan in the past, this book is a disappointment and in particular felt like a poor imitation of A Duke's Temptation by Jillian Hunter.

Fallon decides the only way to keep her self safe is to disguise as a man and take a position as a footman. Interesting twist, albeit not original see Twelfth Night - Shakespeare. She is sent to work for the Duke of Damon, Dominic Hale. They've only met once before, on the night she was fleeing her employer's son, where the duke offers her a ride and then tries to entice her by pawing and I'm being delicate here the prostitute?

While working as footman in the duke's home Fallon is able to see up close and personal the rake whore, really, it's a wonder he didn't have pox the duke has become. And it's not like cavorts with willing widows.

He brings prostitutes back to his ducal household and bed and freely admits to ruining virgins and innocents in public. She gets some insight into why, what with him having a difficult childhood at the hands of a religiously cruel grandfather. Fallon beings to feel a kinship and attraction, and when she is finally revealed as a women, he tries to seduce her and she tries to refuse, until finally she succumbs and sleeps with him. Up until this point, I was hard pressed to find the duke all that attractive or really redeemable. He claimed the women in his household are all safe from unwanted advances and yet when Fallon says no he ignores her and traps her at every turn.

The staff in the duke's household claim to be loyal to him, but when his life is threaten by a jealous husband or a thieving whore they do nothing but stand around and stare at the spectacle. Maybe this is invited by the duke, but it does little to justify the servants disregard for his well fare or their anger at Fallon when it is revealed she is a woman.

They snicker and talk about her and call her a whore, and this completely escapes the duke's notice. And here is where the book takes a really disturbing turn. When Fallon and the duke finally "give in to their attraction", he has cornered her in the kitchen pantry further belying the earlier claim that he wouldn't , tosses her up on a table, lifts her skirts and without any acquiescence on Fallon's part, they have sex.

No real preparation either, even tho she is a virgin. The reader is supposed to be okay with this because Fallon is attracted to him and they've been fighting their sexual tension and she doesn't explicitly say no. Fallon never engaged in their affair. She just gives in because he is handsome and she loves him and she is supposed to.

This entire exchange is really where the book lost me and left me feeling, well, gross. For the rest of the story I had no interest in Fallon's pain at refusing to be his mistress or the duke's emptiness because of his tortured past. Of course, he sees the error of his ways and asks her to marry him. Of course she loves him and says yes. And the author completely overlooks the question of how Fallon is supposed to be the duchess and reside over a household of servants who a few pages ago were calling her a whore.

There is a sequel, probably two. The duke's friend features in the story and it is alluded to that he gets his own HEA. But really, in the end, I just didn't care. That's nice, dear, but that's a pretty big goal. Why don't we stick to the hot and heavy romance and leave classics to others? With serious themes, like slut-shaming a As I read this book, the following scene came to mind. With serious themes, like slut-shaming and feminism and sins of the fathers and individualism and all that stuff! I seriously doubt that, dear.

Now, why don't you go back to adding those adverbs to the nouns? You can't have enough description, you know? Since such domestic scenes are all too familiar with me, I sympathise with the book. Unfortunately, like most things, the idea falls victim to fear and lack of trust by whom and in whom, I leave for you to decide. Fallon O'Rourke is a poor girl whose looks do her more bad than good. As a maid who owns little other than the clothes on her back, she is constantly treated badly and when her bosses sexually harass her, she always ends up getting sacked.

After exiting yet another job by kicking her employer's son in the balls, very nice touch there and faced with the prospect of becoming a prostitute, she decides to cut her hair off and pose as a man. Dominic Hale is a Duke who employs Fallon as a footman, and he is a rake with a past. That's about as much there is to his character in this book. What bugs me is that this could have been great, but whenever the book makes an attempt to break from the mold, it was immediately beaten back into submission.

As if it wanted to be great, but was constantly told: We don't need depth! Let me count the ways.

Fallon is constantly harassed, but the blame is heaped on her because of her looks. Even Dominic, her supposed love interest, tells her: It's truly tragic, and I hope all the money and position in society is enough to compensate for that. It's lame, but not because it's silly. I can imagine something like that happening. What really bugs me is the way Dominic's attitude changes when he realizes Fallon is a woman. When she posed as Francis or Frank , he listened to what she had to say, and appeared to care for her opinion.

He actually comes close to respecting her. What happens when he reveals her charade? The respect goes straight out the window - all he wants to do is fuck her. She tries to enforce boundries and be her own person, but that doesn't work when half the time she's dreaming about his pecks and what he could do to her. Here's where Jane Eyre shone: She actually had serious principles and stuck to them even when it hurt. It's hard to sympathise with Fallon when the only thing stopping her from happiness is sheer stubborness. She doesn't act like she could live on her own if propriety demands it, but she would because of her pride.

The Dark Past TM: Fallon's father died because of the caprice of his employer, while Dominic had a servere governess. That's all there is to is, and I don't think it's spoiling to say it because nothing comes of it. In the end, these plot threads are there because otherwise there wouldn't be anything else in this book than sex and thinking of sex. I wish I liked this book better.

But the only feeling I get from it is one of really lazy effort. This was just ok. I really didn't care for the hero Dominic, who was an asshat much of the time. He whores around, drinks heavily, finds it amusing to call his servants by the wrong name and his first attempt at "seduction" is to suck on another woman's breast in front of the heroine Fallon whom he has just met and whom he knows has just fought off the unwanted advances of another "gentleman.

Despite all that and her disgust at his behavior, she is also turned on. Fallon's attraction towards him made no sense to me and lowered my opinion of her. Dominic had some redeeming qualities but was such a jerk in so many ways because of his bad childhood that I had little sympathy for him he had plenty enough for himself and next to no interest in these two mixed up kids finding their HEA. Feb 05, Anne rated it really liked it Recommends it for: At first, some of the things the hero does bothered me.

But as I grew to know more about him, I felt more sympathy as to why he had become a notorious womanizer. The Heroine is a hoot, dressing as a male after several awful jobs where it was a real chore to keep her virtue. Of course she ends up with the wicked duke working as a footman. And of course she gets away with it A clever and cute story with some heart wrenching parts. Jul 05, Leigh rated it it was ok Shelves: She'd already come to terms with the notion of loving him.

And not having him. She had not yet realized, however that loving meant hurting. More so each time she saw him. Because she would never have him. Because she would forever want to. She was used to hardship and she would not surrender if life would throw her lemons. Knowing that it would be difficult for her to remain longer in a job as a woman, she decided to disguise as a man. She met the Hero while she was sacked form her previous job. Though he offered assistance and drove her into a nearby hotel, he was not a gentleman in her eyes. Actually, he was frolicking with two trollops inside the carriage in front of her.

She was prude yet she couldn't take her eyes of him and his ministrations view spoiler [licking the nipples towards orgasm of the tart while looking at her. She was intrigued and she was horny but she didn't know it. She managed to say no on the Duke's hints of wanting her and managed to stay away from him. It was the Duke's residence. He was a rake of the very first class. He was full of anger. A hot at the same time cold blooded animal. I don't know what adjectives to brand him haha. Other romance novels with this type of theme tend to reveal the real identity 5 chapters before the end. So, I really liked that the discovery was found in the middle chapters. It was expounded how the Hero and heroine dealt with the issue.

It's just that, after the Hero was pursuing the heroine, I wasn't able to connect with them anymore. I wish the painter's side of Dominic was explored more. Although, the two were straight to the point with their emotions, I wish that there were more scenes before the end that would somehow fill the missing emotional links. The plot was promising, the beginning was beautiful with all the mystery and sexual tension. But chapters before the end was frustrating. Dec 29, Brianna rated it liked it. I found some editing mistakes, like missing words, or misspelled words.

Also, the hero, Dominic, went from being a wicked and shallow person to knowing he loved the heroine, Fallon, in about 5 pages. That was definitely not believable. He took in street urchins, but other than that he was a shallow rake who just happened to also be a painter. The heroine, Fallon, was strong. She was able to take care of herself, at least until Dominic came along. I found their relationship to be very much physic I found some editing mistakes, like missing words, or misspelled words.

I found their relationship to be very much physical, as opposed to emotional. I guess I just didn't feel the love, at least on his part. Still, the story moved at a good pace, and I was immediately hooked. I'll have to try more Sophie Jordan novels in the future. Oct 23, Zel Polev rated it did not like it. This book could have been much more.

The characters were interesting. They had personalities but the romance aspect of it was so dodgy to me. I couldn't in all good conscience rate this book higher because I feel a bit disturbed about their attitudes. The way it was written really makes me think that the ball was dropped. It had the elements of a good romance but it seemed like every decision made was the wrong one. For starters, it felt forced. Fallon is by all accounts, a sensible woman.

Howeve This book could have been much more. However, the author marginalizes that to create a bond with Dominic. It wouldn't be so bad if there is an elusive bond that fate somehow has in store for them. There aren't even scenes that brings them together as people. There are no intimacies or thoughts shared between two persons that like each other. Their bond is kind of shallow, which is lust. Another big problem for me is their definition of sexual harassment.

Fallon claims that she feels molested, and she was. While Dominic felt that she wasn't, which she was. Dominic clearly feels that he did nothing wrong and feels entitled to a medal that he didn't put his penis inside of her when he easily could have. She was running from him and he was holding her arm and keeping her trapped, all the while keeping away the towel that she was reaching for. I could not believe his temerity when he congratulated himself on his noble actions. His later insistence that she was somehow responsible for men attempting to molest her was just a lower bar he set for himself.

I don't mind redemption stories. I don't mind asshole heroes as long as they get what is coming. This was not a new thought. He was an asshole from the start, too full of his own self-importance. I thought that I wouldn't mind this story as long as it was handled well. I thought the set up was pretty good. I thought her argument for being a footman was good since it put him in the same level as those bastards who tried to have their way with her.

Surely, he will feel remorse. To my horror, he doesn't even think about it. Instead of improving, he actually gets worse. His decision to make her his mistress and his subsequent patting himself on the back was typical. I shouldn't be surprised but he was such ass on another level. To make it worse, I will bring up the point that there were no bonds with them. This probably contributes to why he doesn't think about the situation from her side. All he sees is his own and he lacks compassion to understand how vulnerable she is.

He puts it best when he says, a girl in your station. He doesn't afford her the same accord as he would himself. They aren't really connecting as person to person, he views her in a lustful light and it doesn't really go beyond that. As a romance, this really was a failure. I also cannot stress the point that it felt really forced in terms of Fallon's nature. I'm not denying that she can feel lustful, just that it is too convenient that she would abandon her sense of pride, one that she kept and is part of her character, so that they would somehow be brought together.

The story revolves around Fallon. She disguises herself as a footman to earn her wage in a manner that won't end with the master of the house trying to have his way with her. She had far too many dismissals in which the men of the house tried to molest her. She ended up in Dominic's house. She met him as a woman the night she left her last post. She returned as a footman. He continues his debauched life and she looks down on his ways.

Just to be clear, she is justified. There is this forced storyline of him looking after urchins and that somehow makes him tender. Yeah, after how many storylines of his being an asshole. Anyways, he has many scenes of debauchery. He also has a friend, who she grew up with. The friend's father sent her father on an errand that killed his life. She holds a grudge against the family. She gets promoted to a valet and becomes closer in her dealings with him.

He eventually discovers she is the girl he had been trying to paint and proceeds to molest her.

    Sins of a Wicked Duke

Side-note I love that my library has ebooks I can read on my Kindle and Tablet The book starts off and introduces you to 3 girls at this scary all girls school called Penwich School for Virtuous Girls, it kind of sound like an all girls orphanage, where the principle doesn't feed them all the time and let the bullies run amuck and also has a taste for whipping these young girls.

Fallon is befriended by two girls who are also in the same situation as her. They sneak out to an abandoned shed and wish upon a shooting star. Fallon wishes for a home. The other two girls wishes are probably going to the next books in this series. Fallon is struggling to make her own money so she can buy a place of her own, she keeps getting sacked because she refuses to meekly accept the advances of the Male Ton at her previous positions.

She eventually decides to disguise herself as a man to get a better position with better pay, after a quick and hot run in with the Dominic Hale, the Duke of Damon, she vows never to step foot at his address. Only low and behold the job she receives in disguise is at the same Duke's house she vowed never to step foot in.

With a lot of funny moments between the two of them as Frank Fallon's name as a man and Dominic, she is eventually found out and that's when the sparks fly and it starts getting interesting. The sexual tension between the two is so addicting I read the book in about 4 hours. Ever since the one night they met as Fallon and Duke, Dominic can't seem to get the red haired feisty woman out of his mind, so it's just equally funny because Fallon is lusting after him the entire time and catches in a couple hilarious situations.

He dreams about her even though she's dressed as a man.
