Le Tartuffe - Dom Juan - Le Misanthrope

The Miser was greedy, Tartuffe was toady and Don Juan was careless. Love had an important role in every play.

Love was governing every little act Who said that books that are not since are no good? Love was governing every little action and the main characters, were, if I can say that, dumb. They were blinded by different things, money or love. I'll start talking first about "The Miser". The Miser himself was very paranoid. He was always thinking about his money, but, moreover, he suspected that everybody could steal his money. He had this strange habit of checking on his money every 5 minutes.

He neglected his family, his daughter and son. These two were supposed to get married, but the Miser did not care about this. He was to choose the ones they should marry, but he chose the woman his son loved for himself, even though he was old and he did not even have the capability to love anymore, except for his money. Money was governing his life and blinded everything and when he lost them, he lost his mind itself.

In return for his money, he would have done everything.

Le Tartuffe - Dom Juan - Le Misanthrope by Molière

That was kind of upsetting because I am aware of the fact that many people nowadays around the world let money govern their own life and other things, like honesty, love, intelligence or truth are left over. It is really depressing that the society taught people to act like this.

In what concerns "Tartuffe", everybody was aware of the fact that he was a liar and a dishonest man, except for Orgon. He blindly believed in Tartuffe when he should not have. He thought that Tartuffe was a loyal man, but he was not. In fact, he played Orgon on his fingers all the time, Orgon was his little puppet and he enjoyed playing with it. Orgon turned to his family, he started to think that his own family was plotting against him.

He believed more in a stranger than in his own family. He started to worry about the stranger more than about himself.

His wife was ill and in bed, but he was still asking "But what about Tartuffe? His family could have disappeared; he would not have noticed. They slowly opened Orgon's eyes and he finally saw that Tartuffe was full of disrespect. Unfortunately, it was too late because Orgon has already left his whole fortune for Tartuffe. But justice has been finally done and Tartuffe got what he deserved for his ugly schemes. Moving next to "Don Juan".

I wanted to read this play for a long time and I'm happy that I had finally had the opportunity to read it. I know get why some men are called "Don Juan" and I guess they really should not be happy when called like this. Don Juan was a careless heartbreaker. He would marry any girl he would think she was hard to get, and when she got her, he would leave her because he "was getting bored of her". His pretext was that he could not stay with a woman for long enough and, for me, that is a complete bluff.

I do not think that is impossible for a man if true love is present in his heart. Don Juan was playing with every woman and he did not seem to care, but, again, justice was done.

Un petit jeu sans consequences (Pièce de théâtre)

What is more depressing about him, is that his atittude is still present nowadays in most of the men. Society taught men that if they want to be cool they should be with every woman and have sex with her and treat her just like she is worth nothing and that is completely wrong. I am not saying this because I am a female, but because nobody, man or woman, deserves to be treated like they are actually nothing and they do not care.

Everybody is important in this world and has a small part. But society is wrong and is advertising masculinity like it is a big deal, when in fact a man would be nothing without a woman by his side. I am not sexist, but this is the ugly truth and, unfortunately, not a lot of people seem to notice and are willing to do something against this. He is not only making fun of even today's society and ugly habits, he is trying to give a life lesson from the past.
