Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I am an entrepreneur with one successful acquisition and it amazes me that many of the techniques presented in the book were ones I learnt by doing and by going through several mistakes, years of mistakes. I do seriously wish I had read books like these which didnt exist back then. The fundamental question the book raises is if you are solving the right problem.
For those who follow customer development or have read about it The Four Steps to the Epiphany: Successful Strategies for Products that Win , this is obvious - but the author goes further and provides some techniques. The techniques and premises are good - Alberto talks of preto-typing as an alternative between thoughtland feedback interviews ranging from friends to VCs to "go for broke" to the middle ground-pretotyping fake it, test it before you make it. Chapter 4 talks of techniques, all practical.

Classification of these techniques and the examples-make it entertaining read. Startup entrepreneurs should read this ebook. One person found this helpful. I have wasted years of my life working on my own and other people's "great" ideas, building them as prototypes and products only to find out that against all our intuition, they flopped. Through necessity I became familiar with the works of Steve Blank Get out of my building!

The day I finished reading the latter, a colleague at Google told me about "this thing called Pretotyping" and "This guy, Alberto Savoia". I had to check it out. So I decided to attend Alberto's "Pretotype It" workshop. My eyes were opened to all my mistakes for the first time. That should have happened when I read the previous books, but I had no exact recipe for how to behave differently from the way I had. Pretotype It is a semi-exact recipe for a change.
If you're an entrepreneur, you simply must learn his lessons, because you cannot afford not to. Years of your life and millions of dollars of "other people's money" are at stake. The main reason his lessons stand out from The Lean Startup is that it's made of concrete techniques you can put to practice tomorrow, on a bootstrapped budget you can afford!

It's not theoretical stuff. It's a methodical approach using which you can test your idea on a very tiny budget. And he gives you multiple ways of testing it. Not only that, the "book" itself is a pretotype - an absolutely masterful example of practicing what you preach.
You can read it in evenings. Finally, the best tip I can offer is to watch his workshop first I attended it at Google but Alberto has recorded his workshop in Stanford University and you can watch it on Youtube for free and THEN read the book. On top of all that, he's an extremely nice person who will listen to your feedback and questions, because that behavior is what he preaches. But if you're practicing entrepreneurship, ignore his lessons at your own peril.
Pretotyping
I think this book was recommended by some Quora answer and I thought it was about pr[o]totyping and not pr[e]totyping.. Only noticed when I started reading the book. I like the book. It was able to deliver its message in as few pages as possible. It covers the concept of pretotyping, which is what is supposed to happen before investing time and money in building a prototype or MVP. It will help you make sure you are building the right it, before investing in building it right.
