Wig Begone
Charles Courtley
What was the name of your very first book regardless of whether it was published or not and, if not published, why? I sent it up for independent criticism and was told that it contained too many characters and an over-complicated plot.
For your first published book, how many rejections did you go through before you either found a mainstream publisher, self-published it, or paid a vanity press to publish it? With attitudes having changed so much towards self-publishing in recent years, I decided I would go for that straightaway.

Nevertheless, I was anxious to promote sales as much as I could and have made much effort to do this myself. How did the rejections make you feel and what did you do to overcome the blows?
When your first book was published, who published it and why did you choose them? I do believe that they have made a good job of the product overall — indeed, many people have been complimentary about the cover. How did it make you feel to become published for the first time and how did you celebrate? Wonderful about having created something permanent in my life and perhaps adding in a very modest way indeed to the wealth of literature.
What was the first thing you did as for as promotion when you were published for the first time? Arranging a book launch at my local bookstore which, I think, was a relative success as I managed to sell 25 copies in one day. If you had to do it over again, would you have chosen another route to be published?
Not as yet, although I am writing a sequel and attempting to adapt the present book into a screenplay. Looking back since the early days when you were trying to get published, what do you think you could have done differently to speed things up? What kind of mistakes could you have avoided?

I might have made an attempt to interest mainstream publishers by approaching those who have published similar books to mine directly. What has been the biggest accomplishment you have achieved since becoming published? I once hankered after being an actor, but was persuaded by my father that the law was a safer bet!
