Disproving Christianity and Other Secular Writings (2nd edition, revised)
Disproving Christianity and Other Secular Writings
Did it make you laugh or cry? I was quite impressed. David has assembled a huge stockpile of Biblical logical fallacies and contradictions. While it seems that the one knock down argument that cannot be ignored or poorly rationalized, continues to elude Atheist arguments, this audio book comes as close as possible to a logically irrefutable argument. Lots of bang for the buck.

Edited down and distilled to "point after point" with no filler. Any theologian who listens to this barrage of rational assaults may become rightly infuriated or frustrated after being forced to view their juggling of so many irrational ideas from the outside. If you find yourself having to defend your lack of faith in Christianity, this book is a great introduction on how to do so. McAfee goes over the basic arguments that can indeed disprove the religion to anyone who isn't already a believer. If you want the experience of a cheesy DJ putting his lips against your ear and mumbling from the back of his throat, then this book is for you.
I've listened to a number of these books pointing out the contradictions in Christianity and the bible. This one is just as good as the others.. They all help to clarify questions one might have in their mind, if one is open enough to accept facts and isn't afraid to question the status quo.
Disproving Christianity and Other Secular Writings (2nd edition, revised)
This book is a spectacular read. What sets it apart from so many others is the tremendous knowledge of its author. I thought it would involve more hard data from history, instead it was a bunch of logical arguments focusing on induction. Would you consider the audio edition of Disproving Christianity and Other Secular Writings 2nd edition, revised to be better than the print version?
I recently had about 4 hours to kill while giving platelets at my local Red Cross and decided to download 'Discovering Christianity' from Audible. I'm already an atheist. As an audiobook, this may be better than the print version. Seems we always are trying to find time to read something, but between commuting or taking a medium distance drive somewhere, this book fills the time perfectly, and if you happen to have a Christian in the car with you, all the better.
Might have been better with Joel Osteen doing it, but he probably wasn't available. What did you like best about this story? As to the content, it was very good. I've already read a lot of secular books but David's did provide stuff that was new to me. He could have mentioned the engineering problems facing building a wooden ark with ancient ship-building technology, but he clearly got the point across.
And if you are a Christian, this should give you a lot to think about. It does not rant and rave the way some angry atheists do, but presents out a series of arguments laid out very logically and with clear conclusions. There are many more compelling atheist books covering this topic. The book is accessible and easy to get through and covers popular biblical discrepancies.
I agree with the conclusions brought forth in this brief book but was disappointed with its lack of depth. Nov 03, Jim Whitefield rated it it was amazing. I read this second edition for David, prepublication, and can highly recommend it. McAfee shows time and again, inconsistencies and discrepancies as well as many contradictions that are attributed to the Christian God I read this second edition for David, prepublication, and can highly recommend it.
McAfee shows time and again, inconsistencies and discrepancies as well as many contradictions that are attributed to the Christian God; a character who is supposedly all knowing and essentially perfect — and infallible. The resulting conclusion that one is obliged to reach at the end of a journey through this succinct look at the many problems, is that either the Christian God is a complete liar at worst, entirely contradictory at best, or most likely that He is not actually real at all.
Sep 03, Seth rated it it was ok. Aug 12, Johannes Solano rated it liked it. I read this back in Aug 24, Mohamad Safadieh rated it it was amazing. I definitely heard about the flaws and contradicting verses. Those however, are being talked about in the Islamic community too.

They point out flaws in The Bible to prove that it has been corrupted by mankind. I can easily use the same logic on the Quran. Back to your book, the arguments in it can be used by me when debating with Christians. It's very well written, the vocabulary is clear, and the book is straight to poin As a Middle Eastern ex-Muslim, I wasn't quite familiar with Christianity. It's very well written, the vocabulary is clear, and the book is straight to point! I would recommend every Christian and Atheist to read this. I'll definitely buy a copy if I find one here. There is absolutely no reason for ten percent of the book to be in italics.

If you're an atheist who has looked into this in the least, you're familiar with these arguments, and probably in much more detail. If you're a Christian reading this book, you won't be convinced in the slightest. So I'm not really sure what the target market is for this book Jul 19, Nicole Soileau rated it it was amazing. I was raised as a Catholic because my mother was. I was still a teenager when I started to question pieces of the religion and could get no answers.
This book took my skepticism to another level when I started to realize while listening the amount that the Catholic church left out. Believer or not, this is something you should pick up and ponder. If you are a Christian: To read this book. You're book is not fallible and let David show you why.
If you are from another religion: Your religious texts should not be that difficult to disprove. Read this book to learn techniques in disproving a religion. Jan 04, Mark Sebert rated it it was ok. This is an atheism fluff piece, I would love to get anything that is oppossed to religion five stars but I have my integrity. I gave it three stars because I think it does fulfill its purpose, but only for the initiated.
Christians, especially the ones aimed at like fundamentalists would dismiss this book easily. In fact I could easily do so by just thinking the way I did as a fundy, hell, I would have made a sermon series out of it. I do think it brings up good points though, but wished he woul This is an atheism fluff piece, I would love to get anything that is oppossed to religion five stars but I have my integrity.
I do think it brings up good points though, but wished he would have flushed it out more and maybe have handles the opposition. I find reading the apologetics of bible contradictions while mind numblingly boring to be a great way to completely disarm the oppositon. I also disagree with the need to study scripture or religion though, especially after having done so most of my life, I find disarming religion to be more effecting from the outsider perspective.
Sure it is nice to point out contradictions, but most people chalk it up to interpretation. And they will just say, you lack perspective or the holy ghost. Rather, coming as an outsider, and using the socratic method to be much better. With that said, books like this are great for those who are asking questions, and are curious. And for those atheists and agnostics who live in a deeply religious circles. This book will save you the time from having to do the reaserch yourself.

Jul 11, Lolo rated it liked it Shelves: An awesome and short book. The ideas challenged are very well thought. The author makes a lot of good arguments. Would recommend this book to anyone that identifies as a christian, but still has an open mind. A most wonderful book! It brings atheism a fresh, new face, one very appreciated. This is a must-read for any secular, atheist, or otherwise non-believer. If Christianity is taken to be a way of life based on a literal interpretation of the New Testament, the author certainly disproves its validity.
That's not even a challenge if you have half a brain and you actually bother to read the NT. Most Christians that I personally know don't observe that kind of Christianity and would be appalled at some of the ideals espoused in the NT and conveniently left out of Sunday sermons. Furthermore, I know few people who accept as factual the supernatural, apo If Christianity is taken to be a way of life based on a literal interpretation of the New Testament, the author certainly disproves its validity. Furthermore, I know few people who accept as factual the supernatural, apocalyptic and magic nonsense that the NT promotes as history.
If you're the kind of Christian that takes the more inclusive and compassionate parts of the NT while ignoring the magical bullshit, this book disproves nothing for you. Nov 16, Josie Smith rated it liked it. The points were compelling. Unfortunately I arrived on most of these conclusions on my own prior to reading the book. It is a great book for a person who has questions or doesn't know where to start. I was hoping for more in-depth discussion and philosophical and moral debate with facts and evidence for support. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because it, to The points were compelling.
The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because it, to me, is more of a beginner's book to the subject and doesn't dive as deep as I was hoping. It merely scratches the surface on many of the subjects presented. For a beginner's book I give it 5 stars. Mar 01, Randon rated it really liked it. It is concise, straightforward and an easy read. It covers the most poignant and arguments about the irrationality of Christianity. Contains a basic list of the most important biblical contradictions that disprove infallibility.
It is good starting point for those not very biblicaly literate believer or non-believer. Most of the arguments apply only to mainstream Christian Protestant and Catholic sect beliefs, as any Restorationist sect Mormonism for example use many of these arguments agai It is concise, straightforward and an easy read. David did good job at refuting Christianity.
I might even change that statement to "refuting fundamentalist Christianity". It is a relatively short book that can be read in one sitting. It was organized well and moved quickly. While he lists several contradictions and problems with Christianity and their holy book, it moves quickly without getting bogged down. While not a scholarly work it is intelligent and I believe it represents Christianity fairly.
Good read for those who might be having som David did good job at refuting Christianity. Good read for those who might be having some questions concerning their faith. I was given this book by a friend and while I wasn't quite sure what to expect I wasn't entirely disappointed. Most of the book was made by stating a biblical quote than refuting it with a contradictory biblical quote followed by a few paragraphs from the author.
