Matt writes about this toward the end of the book, in talking about his journey to pick up his adopted daughter, abandoned in a Ukrainian orphanage because she was disabled. This was for me the most profound moment in a book that is overflowing with profound moments: I would not be in Ukraine. If Eliot were here, I would not be here.
The absolute worst thing in each of our lives was the thing that brought us together. Without walking a road of pain and misery, our paths would never have crossed. Lena is my daughter. Jan 30, Melissa Schwartz rated it really liked it. When I first picked up this book by Matt Mooney, I was expecting to have to dry my eyes. However, I found the book to be inspirational as well as touching. The Mooneys received a diagnosis that no parent ever wants to receive.
However, through their own strength and faith they are able to forge their way through their short time with little Eliot and to emerge from their grief with a plan for their life. Mooney gracefully relates the Mooneys' mixed feelings during their brief time with Eliot fro When I first picked up this book by Matt Mooney, I was expecting to have to dry my eyes. Mooney gracefully relates the Mooneys' mixed feelings during their brief time with Eliot from their wonderment as new parents to the searching for a way to cope with the loss to come.
Snippets from each day of their lives with Eliot really give readers a picture of how much of a miracle Eliot's life was. After his loss, we follow along as the Mooneys draw on his inspiration for their future. Truly a beautiful read! This book is equally inspiration for those of us currently dealing with a loss as well as those yet to cope with such a loss.
Feb 04, Michelle Kidwell rated it it was amazing. I first heard Elliot's story a few years ago, a little boy only lived 99 days yet he touched the lives of many, and blessed his parents. This story is not only one of loss, but amidst the loss, hope and love. For the short span of Elliot's life his Father kept a blog, keeping others updated on Elliot's condition, Elliot was not supposed to be viable at birth but he was, his Mom and Dad did everything they could to give him all the love he needed, and of course yes they grieved when he was lost, p I first heard Elliot's story a few years ago, a little boy only lived 99 days yet he touched the lives of many, and blessed his parents.

A Story Unfinished: 99 Days with Eliot by Matt Mooney
A Story Unfinished - for a book, and personal story such as this, I have zero complaints. It is not fancy literature nor is it sugar coated. Their words made me laugh, made me cry, and the story of Eliot left a lasting impact.
Such a beautiful boy, and beautiful family. I recommend this book for ALL, young or old. I believe their story, Eliot's story, has a lesson to teach all of us. Jan 29, Jessica S rated it it was amazing Shelves: Not long ago, I read something that became very special to me regarding the avoidance of pain in our lives. We have a loving Father, and sometimes it takes falling down and scraping our knee to suddenly become aware that He is there to comfort us. That doesn't make the pain any less real, but it does allow us to let our Father closer.
Often times Not long ago, I read something that became very special to me regarding the avoidance of pain in our lives. Often times, it seems like we often think we can only do one or the other, not both simultaneously. This book proves that does not have to be the case. I would recommend this book to anyone, and that's not not a usual statement for me. Mar 25, Katelyn rated it really liked it. Reading this book was a great insight into the suffering, emotions, and grief that people feel during times of such severe unknowns. Although I felt the book started out a bit slow, I was glad I finished it. This is truly a story of strength and joy rather than defeat and sorrow. Don't get me wrong, it is terribly sad, but Matt let's you see into his heart and how he is able to make it through each day knowing that his child is not long for this world.
His dedication to his faith is unwavering but not overwhelming to the reader. Jan 14, Jean rated it really liked it Shelves: A very touching story about Matt and Ginny's son Eliot who was born with a genetic defect known as Trisomy This was their first child and until the 30th week all was going well.
Their decisions to keep their baby and to celebrate each day of Eliot's life was a jot to read. Their faith in God kept them going although it shows them running through the gauntlet of emotions from joy, angry, sorrowful, hurt and sadness.

Thanks to goodreads for letting me become part of this story. Mar 09, Amy rated it liked it. I was definitely touched by Eliot's story and the lessons this small child taught in the short time he was on Earth. His parents' honesty and openness about their ordeal as well as their faith journey throughout made this a very worthwhile read. I feel like I know better now how to approach friends who are suffering with their own losses.

A book that will provide you with an opportunity to reflect on life; both before and after death and one's relationship with God.
