That was not the case. Prince Hans-Adam has thoughtfully considered the issues of statecraft from the rather unique vantage point of a head of state, and I found myself in concurrence with all of his conclusions. The book begins with an excellent history of statecraft including the legitimacy afforded past states by religion, then discusses the inadequacy of representative democracy codified in the U.

Constitution compared with the direct democracy of Switzerland or Liechtenstein, which affords the populace the advantage of voting out unpopular legislation enacted by legislators. The Statue of Liberty--depicted on a roadside billboard--did not carry her customary torch and tablet. Instead, she shielded her eyes from words that towered beside her, words that highway drivers could not possibly avoid: He had made the original statement--"Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation, at least not just"--four years earlier.
