Lists with This Book. Aug 15, Rachel rated it really liked it. Her books touch hearts and minds and are filled with strong storytelling, warm characters and explore family relationships. In this story, Marita tackles a difficult topic, life as a traveller and the discrimination they face. The main character in this story is Katie Connors who is a traveller.

She is forced to live as a settled traveller after their caravan burns down. However, some people were kind and accepting of the different culture. She also gains confidence through woodwork class where she makes a wooden horse and paints it blue to replace the one lost in the fire. I enjoyed reading this story as it highlighted various themes. There was an emphasis on social issues, school life, bullying, friendships, family relations and prejudice. I think this book would be suitable for children aged I think children would find this book interesting as it deals with real life issues which will encourage them to have an open mind about people who have views dissimilar to their own.

I read this book in sixth class and I liked it for the most part. I could imagine the place she lived in, the school she went to and the blue horse trinket. So it was able to interest me. My teacher gave me this book and told me it was my homework. I was so annoyed, I didn't want any homework. One day, while away, I was bored and decided to read this book that I had been given. I couldn't be pulled away.

I felt so horrible for the main character and her family. They were called so many names by their new neighbours. They were also treated badly. They had to deal with so many problems such as the name calling When I was eleven years old, I was going away during school. They had to deal with so many problems such as the name calling but they were strong and tried to not let it affect them.

The 'Blue Horse' That Inspired A Children's Book

All of the problems they faced were real life problems. Many people around Ireland are travellers or settled travellers. The Blue Horses sketch uses her favourite colour, blue, and personal symbols of hers, the moon and stars. It was removed from there as part of the "cleansing" of modern art works under the Nazis, and included in the Degenerate Art exhibition which opened in July in Munich.

However, in response to a protest by veterans because Marc had died fighting for his country in the war, the painting was removed and was not included in the exhibition when it opened in Berlin.

The Tower of Blue Horses is one of several animal paintings by Marc, among which a large group depict horses. It is one of the most notable of those in which he attempts to "see and paint through [the animal's] eyes", or as Paul Klee put it, "he raises them to his own level".
