All I know is if someone threatened my family with their back turned to me and their gun down I wouldn't be walking out the door with my tail between my legs. I've met a lot of farmers like Rooster. Not one of them would've picked up that bag and walked out the door. I kept trying to figure out how he would go. I wondered if he would follow Engineer Jen to North Dakota. Then I thought jail. I wonder how much was already written before the firing and had to be changed later. I really thought he was gonna get locked up for the generator.
We saw that, then the very next scene he's late to meeting Bennet and Abby. I fucking hate how they wrote off Rooster. I read that dax shepard is coming in as sort of a replacement. Not a bad thing but a damn shame that Rooster has to go. Dax if he comes on is going to be that annoying cousin who despite being kind of a tool somehow plays an important role in one of the character arcs and saves the day for them. Definitely feels like they're wrapping it all up. I enjoyed this part though, so hopefully the next one is just as good. I think Maggie is going to wind up with a happy ending in the series finale.
She always just seemed like the voice of reason to me. I didn't say happy ending - just ending. I wonder if they have as hard time writing for her chatacter. She only had one love interest aside from Beau I think. She also doesn't seem to want to work at the bar. Hey, Theranchfan, just a quick heads-up: You can remember it by -os- in the middle. Have a nice day! The parent commenter can reply with 'delete' to delete this comment. They can't play the whole "Where's Rooster" card for more than a season. Maybe he will find a ranching job in another state and make a living for himself.
That's the only way I can halfway see it being convincible. Either way, it sucks, because in the end, Rooster would never just go with a niece on the way, his dad's health, the wildfires, etc. The writers had their backs against the wall. Left the door open for Danny to come back, but I feel at this point, if he isn't rehired or would even come back if they asked , this will probably be the last good season.
Healthy baby, the ranches thrive, money flows, Beau marries Joanne, Maggie finds hippie love, and they all trot off into the sunset. That Nick character is totally out of place in this show. Totally changed the tone of the show. Part 5 started strong, but Nick ruined it for me. If they wanted to get rid of Rooster because of the allegations that's one thing that I don't know enough about to comment on but Nick spoiled it for me. Yes he did not fit in at all.
It felt completely like a forced storyline. They should have had rooster do jail time for the generator. I just feel like it doesn't matter what the actor creates anymore, people just disregard talent because of flaws. Anywhere and everywhere, I suppose. I was loving the season until Nick came in and spoiled the spirit of the show.
Great writing and acting up to that point imho. I mean the dude that played Nick was a great actor. Pulled off the character perfectly. It's just not something that fits in the show. Yoo idk why after that 1st time Rooster didn't have a gun on him at all times, at least when he's at his cabin. Especially after it's been pointed out one million times that they have a shitload of guns around everywhere.
They keep a gun in the cereal box for fuck's sake. Does rooster not do the same in the hunting cabin? I saw his head right when rooster was turning around and I thought he was about get murdered right there lol. Idk I kinda disagree. I like that there's a violent threat around. Especially when he's after Rooster who's always been super reckless.

Didn't take me out of it at all, kinda amped up the tension on my end honestly. Also, I'm from the east coast so I don't really know, but it seemed to me like a predator like Nick would definitely be someone who exists in a hick town like that. Hick Town resident here, generally few and far between. You tend to find those types in methed out trailer hoods. I think it was anyways his character to act tough.
I him not knowing why Nick was in jail was enough for him to not push his luck too much. I really thought he would get sent to jail for the generator theft. Nick made it weird. I didn't like that at all. Yeah this ending is just poorly written. The whole reason people own guns is to protect themselves and their families. You think Beau wouldn't be the first one to put a bullet between that scumbags eyes? I read somewhere that they decided to fire him after they had already filmed 9 of the 10 episodes. If that's true it would explain why the ending of episode 10 seems so poorly done. A family who keeps kitchen guns in their Cheerios would have shot that motherfucker when he broke in the first time.
Kinda disappointed in this season and not just the Danny Masterson aspect either. Colt and rooster do stupid shit, Beau is disappointed, they go to the bar and tell their mom their dad is an asshole. It's a funny show, but it's rinse and repeat when it comes to the drama they throw in. What the hell happened to Debra Jo Rupp. I literally jumped from the couch when I heard her voice, because I did not recognize the face.

I have to say. I would rather they had killed Rooster or jail like eveyone else is suggesting. But this tells me they are hoping Masterson can beat the accusations in court so that is why they did it that way. I just hope they figure out Nick is the one behind it next season at least.
If nothing else have Rooster get in contact via mail or email and have his character say that he finally found a good life somewhere else and would be back for visits. He's not going to court. No charges were filed and the LAPD said there is no case against him. The problem is you cant beat accusations. Which is why it's pants on head retarded to punish people for just accusations. He doesn't get to go to court because charges haven't been filed and they won't be filed because there's no case against him. There's 0 evidence outside of her saying he did something, and him saying he didn't.
From what I have been told, and I'm not sure if this is true, is he has had multiple accusations since even before the Me Too movement and that the Church of Scientology has been protecting him all this time. I could have sworn he has been in court for some of it though. But I agree about the accusations damning a person. I mean if someone accuses you of something you either own up to it or make them prove it. And so far the only ones that have gone to court or will be going to court have been Bill Cosby and Harvey Wienstien sp.
Everyone else has either admitted it or denied it. And the ones that have denied it still get treated as guilty. I feel like people are just using his membership in the Church of Scientology as a way to attack him though. He's always been the type of person to target for false accusations to try and get some money. And people are super anti-Scientology right now demonizing anyone associated because of Leah Remini's series. Not that criticism of the "church" isn't warranted, they're definitely shady.
MODERATORS
But it's not hard to believe that people came forward with accusations and charges were never filed because there was no evidence and they weren't winnable cases. I'm not saying that happened, it's entirely possible the accusations are true. But I don't want to condemn someone and ruin their lives when there isn't evidence to support accusations against them. Mostly because I put myself in their shoes. Right now when you're accused you don't get the chance to defend yourself.
Hell, Aziz Ansari caught shit for pushing for sex after a woman said no but also stripped down and blew him. Louis CK had his image ruined by asking girls if he could jerk off in front of them then doing it. Danny Masterson had a fuck ton of money for a long time, that makes him a target to crazy people. After more thought on the subject I take back what I said.
These companies do have the right to protect their reputations and assets. I mean put yourself in their shoes. Say you run the largest sports team in your city. Then one day news comes out that the coach of your team has been allegedly sitting outside someone woman's house and pulling his pud as she is getting undressed and showering. Remember that this is alleged behavior and no proof or charges have been presented. What do you do? Sure it would be screwed up to fire the guy over something that there is no proof for but you have a team that is in the public eye and if you don't do SOMETHING the fans are going to hate your guts and possibly throw stuff at him while he is on the field.
You are sort of forced to save face and you either have to suspend the guy or flat out fire him. It is no different with these companies. It is messed up that it is happening based on allegations but these companies run ruining themselves if they don't distance themselves from these people. Maybe suspending them without pay would be a decent move instead of firing. In the end the company has to make the right business decision and that usually means cutting ties with these people in order to protect their company.
If the allegations prove to be false then they can always issue an apology and start working with that person again. I know they have the right, and it's the better business move. I'm speaking from a social standpoint and think we need to make a change socially back to innocent until proven guilty rather than this "guilty at the first accusation regardless of any evidence or lack thereof. Obviously Wikipedia is Wikipedia, but if this stuff is legit they are beyond "shady".
Not saying Masterson is or is not guilty, but being associated with Scientology makes me wonder about people. Maybe Nick started the wildfire? That could be his ending on the show without a violent death. The show's too light for that. Gotta wrap him up, too. Would change the dynamics of the show completely! That has to have been one of the most insulting, most out of character ways I have ever seen a character written off a show.
Rooster leaving town because of a crazy guy breaking into his house and threatening him? Did the show forget the main characters are gun loving rednecks who are fiercely protective of their property? Everything about that build up was handled out of character for rooster. He would have had a gun on him at all times after the first time his house was broken into.
He would have accepted his brothers help. He would have set up some sort of redneck security system in his house incase it happened again. It was already established he was scared of the guy, so why did he not have a gun on him? I know plenty of people who feel naked without their gun for protection.
Hell, I could even see him telling his dad about the encounter. The idea of beau going after someone whose not only trespassing on his land but also threatening the life of his son? I'd love to see that! Instead we see rooster not prepare or act accordingly to his character. Everything the show had set up about Rooster as a character and how he was raised was completely forgotten in that moment. He and his family are gun loving, property protecting, rednecks. A house invasion is something they would have prepared for. I kept expecting Beau to walk up behind Nick with a shotgun.
That would have been an awesome start to Part 6. So out of character for Rooster. Should have just put him in jail for the generator thing if they wanted to make his return a possibility. I haven't seen anyone mention this but Bo has changed a lot this season and Sam Elliott is phenomenal. After a heart attack he becomes more human instead of just an angry asshole. He's trying to be more caring, compassionate and a better father to the boys and better boyfriend.
It might be just my brain connecting things where things don't connect but did anyone else find Jerry's emphasis on how it was only alleged interesting? I just wasn't sure if that was a nod to to the allegations against Danny, like the show saying they have his back or something. Again I could be reading into it too much. Small thing that bothered me Nike just started producing jerseys for the NFL.
Before the NFL had an official uniform provider, each team had deals with various apparel companies, like colleges do. The character is just crazy as fuck. I get that his only purpose was as a way to write off Rooster but I hope it stays that way and we don't see him come back to threaten Mary or the Bennetts. A character like that has no place in this show. Hope this character development for Beau sticks this time.
He's beginning to remind me of Louis Litt in the way he's been taking one step forward and two steps back every other episode. I really like the Lisa Neumann character and I thought Abby's parents were a great part of the season. I was so happy that Colt and Abby's dad were finally getting along, and then Abby had to go ask her dad for a loan. That scene where her dad confronts them at the ranch made me so mad. Abby kept getting mad at Colt for going behind her back and doing things but she did the exact same thing.
I have a working theory. There's little strings throughout the season that the producers could use as reasons for Rooster to leave. Any one of them, from a character standpoint, could be a way to help Rooster change. We've seen Beau change since part 1, so why not Rooster? Some people don't seem to understand that this season was not thrown together after the accusations came out. It's been written and worked on since the last one premiered. I think the Nick plotline was there from the start.
The only difference is that Rooster would not actually leave, but instead find a way to get Nick arrested, not kill him, this isn't Law and Order, people. While yes, Nick does not fit in the show, it's important to not forget what the show keeps telling Colt and by association, Rooster: This is still the real world, and shit happens, and you have to get through it. Now yes as funny as the show is, if you sit and think about it, it's actually a pretty grounded show. How many guns and how many fights between the Bennetts?
I don't understand why Rooster is so intimidated by Nick. Dude broke in to your house What would Beau do? I started watching this show with a heavy bias, but I was won over without much of a fight. I'm not one who really watches TV shows with a laugh track, but The Ranch truly does have amazing writing and I find myself laughing a lot. Rooster has the best and funniest lines, and I don't see how the show can even hope to continue without him.
Which is weird because the show doesn't really center around Rooster, its mostly about Colt, his tribulations with Abby and his Father. But Masterson does such a master job at the character Rooster that he literally steals the show away. I am elated that Rooster was in all 10 episodes of Part 5, but like many people on this sub I am less than happy with all the holes in Rooster's sendoff. I'm definitely giving Part 6 a chance just out of my pure love for the show, but I already expect to be disappointed, which feels shitty.
Trying to avoid spoilers so sorry if this has been posted. Im watching on a 4k tv in Dolby Vision and the video quality looks like absolute shit. Its like they filmed it on old 35mm film stock, as I can see grain and such all over the place. Not to mention the color looks completely washed out. I looked around but I cant find any confirmation on this. I get it if they wanted to give it a more authentic "western" feel, but its a jarring switch compared to previous seasons. I watched the whole thing and thought the same thing, I thought it was something wrong with my tv!
I noticed that too. Wasn't sure if it was a stream quality issue since Comcast sucks sometimes. I watched it on my 4K and tested it on my projector and other p TV, the 35mm effect is deliberate the show is much darker than I think they meant it to be. Already commented but just wanted to say how much I loved this part. It was really engaging and I just got done watching it at 3am lol. So much of it was super emotional, and hats off to Ashton and Sam for their acting especially, it was amazing and it really felt like I was watching a father and a son.
I feel like next part is going to be finishing up the show, like others here have said, and I really hope rooster returns at some point before the last episode I'd rather not have another Eric Foreman type deal where he shows up once in the season during the last few minutes of the finale. As far as the next part goes though I feel like Beau might not make it through the whole way, I feel like now that he's kind of realized what he's done and wants to fix things he's going to do what he can to help the boys and then either pass away before or after the baby is born.
Not saying it will happen but it would surely add a lot of emotion to it all. At times this series approached Eugene O'Neil levels of intensity. And there's been no TV show more accurate to the plight of family farmers. I didn't look it as much as others. I love he show but I cant the constant back and forth every storyling. Colt and Heather are having a baby, ooops no they're not. They're building a pipeline, oops no theyre not. They're accepting the pipeline money. Wait no, no they're not then do behind Beaus back. They're buying the Peterson Ranch..
Colt is getting charged with theft, wait no he's not, wait he is again. Seems like there is an example almost every episode. Again, overall I like the show I just think they should go moee of the comedy route and less of a drama. For a show that pushes so many dramatic moments, it feels like the writing gets awful lazy. Rooster should have used his ninja skills to put nick in a choke hold he had a perfect opportunity. Did Nick watch him walk out the door? I can't recall right now but Rooster could have gone for a low blow either way when he was walking towards the door.
I was wondering how Rooster was gonna be sent off. Then at one point I was like holy shit, they're actually gonna have him get murdered. Woulda been super ballsy and I would've respected the hell out of them for it. Also, would kinda make sense for his character considering how reckless he is and how he acts way tougher than he actually is.
Even tho Rooster is easily my favorite character and I think Danny has been absolutely killing it, I guess I understand if he can't be on the show anymore. Imo it's really cool that they left it open for him to come back. If everything somehow gets settled at some point, it's gonna be a hell of a triumphant return. Finally, I just found out like yesterday that Dax will be making up for Danny's absence next season. Kinda pumped bout that.
