The Man in the Loon (The Loon Mysteries Book 2)
The characters have an ease accrued over a long series, and I felt comfortable with them right away.

Houston has a brisk and enjoyable storytelling style, punctuating her narrative with tales of fly and ice fishing Sometimes, I don't require anything more than a good story, well told. Houston delivers this in spades There's a suspenseful and exciting piece at the end of the novel This is a writer to savor. The underlying theme of the Loon Lake series so far seems to be threats to the idyll, expressed in big city ambition versus small town kindness, materialism versus naturalism, and thin personality versus depth of character.
The overlay of fly fishing is not just regional embroidery, but a reminder that practice, steadiness, perseverance, and patience are needed to achieve satisfaction, not unlike detective work. There's so much yet to discover beneath the rippling surface. In her teens and twenties, mystery author Victoria Houston was the classic hometown girl who couldn't wait to leave her small Wisconsin town.

Day Two of our Author Slam begins with Victoria Houston of Loon Lake fame!
Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. A pleasure to be back in the company of the Loon Lake gang and to see that no one has changed very much. Winter in Wisconsin is not pleasant, especially in the north, but even with murder and mayhem afoot, Lew Ferris, Doc Osborne, and Ray Pratt make the most threatening days feel like being down home.
Another good outing for Victoria Houston. As I have written in other reviews of Virginia's work my wife and I read her novels for the characters and location she has created. We have read them ALL and will everyone she writes in the future. Be aware she writes to a formula so if you want to get a feel of them read the 1st two or three it get the characters and setting.
After that its a murder mystery. Virginia if you read this do not take it as a criticism.

Thank you for writting one year, the wait is not too long. I can't wait to see a new book out by this author, great read as usual. I love all her characters and the story within the story. A wealthy widow has big plans for a museum in the area and finds herself being shoved in front of a large truck and she meets her end. Looks like an accident till a witness working at a nearby restaurant comes forward.
He is soon found dead as well so who wanted them out of the way. The step children are top on the list but which one is the culprit or are they involved at all? I like the characters and the writing as it is a pleasurable read. I have read all the books in the series and its always nice when a new one comes out. Maybe Doc and Lew should take a vacation and solve a crime in a different location to put a different spin on the series.

One person found this helpful. Love this series, all are great, wonderful characters, good stories. I would recommend to anyone even if you don't fish. Just like all the other Loon Lake series, this mystery is an easy read and an interesting story line.
One of my favorite authors, especially since I'm originally from Wisconsin, and am a fisherman. I hate politically correctness. Her characters are warm and believable, her plots are also believable, and I love her odd twists. The book i s a post-apocalypse survival story set in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, in the year after a mutated virus culls the human population. Twist has to adapt to the emptiness and isolation of an empty world and come to terms with the fact that he might be the only person left alive in the entire world. In a world where boredom and loneliness are the greatest threat, Twist must survive, keeping the hope that others might be alive, as well.
Christine DeSmet will be here to talk about her Door County fudge shop mysteries yummmmy. Chris's fudge series features a Belgian-American family. Grandpa has constant trouble with his boats, while Ava has constant trouble involving her fudge and felonies. Each of Chris's books include original recipes for fudge, and she also includes recipes for such Belgian specialties as booyah, which is a red tomato-based stew usually made with chicken. Booyah is a traditional stew made outdoors in giant vats and over a fire.
Mark of the Loon (Gen Delacourt Mystery, #1) by Molly Greene
The recipe in one of the books in the series came from a kermis I visited in northeastern Wisconsin. Lucy Sanna discusses her historical fiction book Cherry Harvest , now in paperback.
