The Swine Herder
It'd be indeed difficult to make a child understand it. May the ending be twisted to "and then they lived happily ever after". A prince wants to marry a princess, and gives her a rose and a nightingale from his father's grave. The rose is from a tree that only bloom every fifth year, and the nightingale can sing every song. When the princess doesn't like the presents, he disguises himself as a swineherd.
It is about appreciating what is real. The rose and the nightingale were wonderful presents, and the princess was arrogant, but it is even more arrogant to expect that a girl would want to marry you even though you don't know each other, and not accept that people are different. Not appreciating the presents should only show the prince that the princess was not right for him.
Instead, he wants revenge. I have read this story in Russian long ago when I was a child so it was nice to read it again, in English. I highly recommend f Book Title: I highly recommend for book lovers to go back in time with Hand Christian Anderson.
It's not always a good thing reading the next big thing. Feb 10, Nohely rated it it was amazing Shelves: This story is amazing! Most of you may know that I love Hans Christian Andersen and I must admit that this story is at my top 5 favorites. This beign number 4. The story centers around this spoiled princess and a humble prince who wants to marry her.
The princess rejects him because his presents are natural. The prince actually pretends to be a swine herd so that he could be close to the princess. Quite romantic don't you think? But of course the ending itself was not predictable at all and tha This story is amazing! But of course the ending itself was not predictable at all and that is the reason why I loved this story.
I recommend it to everyone. Nov 25, Sarah rated it it was amazing. I loved this fairy tale at first I though it was going to be one of those fairy tales that made a prince buy his love but the ending was just perfect and so different to other fairy tales. It ended better than I thought it would! It was moral, as fairytales should be, and I loved it! Aug 01, Paul rated it it was amazing. A very funny story, and strange so few people know about it.
A swineherd going behind a tree to transform into a Prince! It's like something you'd expect in a comic book! Jun 12, ah rated it did not like it. Where is the compassion? I love the original fairy tale; the illustrations in this edition just aren't working for me. Also, as has been mentioned, the moral of the story is a difficult one for younger children to grasp. Older children might be able to catch it, however. May 13, Sarah Teal rated it it was ok. Heavy-handed and not detailed enough where it counts to sell the moral wedged in. Oct 17, Kevin Hull rated it it was amazing.

Untungnya saya baca sinopsis setelah selesai baca isinya, haha.
Yang jelas endingnya gak happily ever after. Masukan saya buat pangeran: Feb 15, Joy rated it liked it Shelves: A prince and princess story with a difference. The princess rejects the gifts of natural beauty and pays a dear price.
Talking about actantial models and narrative structures is pure wordiness and loss of time. Greimas, I absolutely loved your schemata when I had stumbled upon them, kudos for that! Although verbalizing about the art of the storyteller is central to criticism, nonverbal culinary activities must also be considered.
A trademark of a master. This classic is thought-provoking and has an interesting and thoughtful lesson that children should learn. He gives her a beautiful magical rose that has a smell that causes people to forget sorrow, a nightingale that sings sweet songs, a magic pot, and a magic rattle, but she rejects him. He darkened his face both brown and black, pulled his hat down over his eyes, and knocked at the door.
I do need somebody to tend the pigs, because we've got so many of them. So the Prince was appointed "Imperial Pig Tender. All day long he sat and worked, as busy as could be, and by evening he had made a neat little kettle with bells all around the brim of it. When the kettle boiled, the bells would tinkle and play the old tune:. But that was the least of it.
If anyone put his finger in the steam from this kettle he could immediately smell whatever there was for dinner in any cooking-pot in town. No rose was ever like this! Now the Princess happened to be passing by with all of her maids-in-waiting. When she heard the tune she stopped and looked pleased, for she too knew how to play "Oh, dear Augustin.
Isn't the swineherd highly accomplished? I say," she ordered, "go and ask him the price of the instrument. But she had not gone very far when she heard the pretty bells play again:. So her maids stood around her, and spread their skirts wide, while the swineherd took his ten kisses. Then the kettle was hers. And then the fun started. Never was a kettle kept so busy. They boiled it from morning till night. From the chamberlain's banquet to the cobbler's breakfast, they knew all that was cooked in town. The maids-in-waiting danced about and clapped their hands.
We know who's having porridge and cutlets. But the swineherd-that's the Prince, for nobody knew he wasn't a real swineherd-was busy as he could be.

This time he made a rattle. Swing it around, and it would play all the waltzes, jigs, and dance tunes that have been heard since the beginning of time. I say, go and ask him the price of that instrument. But mind you-no more kissing! But she had not gone very far when she said, "After all, I'm the Emperor's daughter, and it's my duty to encourage the arts.
Tell him he can have ten kisses, as he did yesterday, but he must collect the rest from my maids-in-waiting.
Remember, I'm the one who gives you board and wages. He rubbed his eyes, and he put on his spectacles. I'd better go see what they are up to now. He pulled his easy slippers up over his heels, though ordinarily he just shoved his feet in them and let them flap. How much faster he went.

As soon as he came near the pens he took very soft steps. The maids-in-waiting were so busy counting kisses, to see that everything went fair and that he didn't get too many or too few, that they didn't notice the Emperor behind them. He stood on his tiptoes. And both the Princess and the swineherd were turned out of his empire.
