Mutant Blobs Attack ricorda anch'esso moltissimo i giochi a piattaforma bidimensionale degli anni '90, quelli per SEGA Megadrive o Super Nintendo per intenderci, con una palette di colori che esalta la brillantezza dello schermo della console, mentre lo stile adottato per rappresentare scenette, ambienti, mostri e personaggi vari riporta alla mente quei vecchi fumetti americani della serie Tales From Space e quei vecchi film anni ''50 di fantascienza. Per questi ultimi come non citare fra le fonti di ispirazione degli sviluppatori il mitico The Blob del interpretato dal grande Steve McQueen, o A trenta milioni di chilometri dalla Terra?

Parlando invece di audio, abbiamo una colonna sonora piuttosto interessante, anche se in alcuni scenari sembra fuori contesto in quanto seriosa, mentre nulla di particolare da segnalare sul resto, specie sugli effetti, semplici ma efficaci come si conviene a un titolo del genere.

Col suo stile mutuato dai vecchi platform puzzle anni '90, caratterizzato da una grafica bidimensionale colorata e da un gameplay immediato ma nel contempo ben strutturato, Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack si rivela essere a conti fatti un titolo assolutamente valido, divertente e in grado di offrire una manciata d'ore di allegria e di sfida agli utenti, soprattutto se questi ultimi decideranno di impegnarsi a raccogliere tutti gli oggetti presenti in ogni area e lotteranno per ottenere il miglior punteggio possibile.

The game itself is split into 4 Tiers comprising 17 levels. Over the course of a level a player will receive target sizes that must be reached by locating and absorbing surrounding objects. Larger objects can be absorbed when the Blob increases in size.

Target sizes are treated as sections within a level where a player must traverse platforms, solve puzzles, and fight enemies in order to proceed. The game involves a species of interstellar gelatinous blobs that travel the universe looking for their next meal. These blobs end up on a distant Earth-like planet that has fallen prey to mass industrialization. Upon landing on this planet the main Blob, which is controlled by the player, is captured by an evil scientist and must then begin the task of escaping, saving fellow Blob friends, and cleaning the planet.
