Maybe there should be a separate list for regular fiction for this age level? I deleted a few that definitely weren't fantasy! Jun 05, Just click on "Create a list" green link at the top of the page.
Jun 09, I LOVE this list! Jun 11, Aug 22, Feb 28, Apr 26, Although I love Twilight, I can't vote it on this list because I don't think it's a book for pre-teens. Also, Faith, I don't think this is a list of girl power books. I think it's a list of fantasy books that pre-teen girls would like. Well, I'd find a list of books with good, empowered female models for my pre-teen daughter to be the most useful.
Try searching "female character" under the All Lists link at the top of this page. Jul 11, Outsiders definitely isn't pre-teen fantasy. That's the whole point of the book! Jul 18, I have read most of theese books and want to read the others. Aug 08, Ok, what is with all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder pioneer books? They are not fantasy at all! Oct 29, Hmmm as much as I enjoyed Graceling I do not think it's appropriate for pre-teens. Jun 28, Why is Jane Austen on here?
And some of these are not really for pre-teens! Do you want me to remove them? Jan 24, Went through the list and IDed the following as not fantasy, or not pre-teen: Jan 27, All the above have been deleted plus a number of adult Andre Nortons that ended up on the list. If any were deleted in error, please let me know.
Mar 29, Take off Anne of Avonlea also. Good, but not a fantasy! Jun 23, Kel may not understand it at first, but when he does, everything clicks. Now there's a 'dragon' I'd love to spend time with. And they way the characters interact with one another is no different from an everyday thing - just like the way we interact with others. I sooo can't wait for the next one! Jan 09, Terri Pray rated it really liked it Recommends it for: I'm an Angela Knight fan and love her Mageverse setting.
Nineva and Kel's story is well worth reading if you're familiar with the Mageverse series. If you're not, I'd go back to the first book and read that, as a lot of the setting material, the background information, builds through the earlier books. Why the loss of a half star if I'm such a fan? I just didn't quite enjoy this one as much as I've enjoyed others, but I couldn't tell you why. I've wracked my brains trying to pin poi Really a 4. I've wracked my brains trying to pin point it and the closest I can work out is that the sex magic as a major plot element felt 'wrong'.

Feb 02, Erika rated it it was ok. The rich story and thread of humor holds it together well, however. If the divine being that chose you demands magical energies from your sexual activities is that a threesome, prostitution, or an act of devotion? I think that arrangement deserved a more through consideration. Oct 30, Thelma rated it it was amazing. Love, love, love this series. Dragons, princess, faires, vampires, witches. What more could you ask for? The heros are heroic. The princess are brave and willing to fight to the death - I can't stand stories where the women swoon and wait for the men to take care of them.
Kel is a beautiful dragon with a problem, Nineva is a fairy princess with a problem. Together they save the world and each other. Dec 07, Katie rated it it was amazing Shelves: The only thing that pulled me out of the story was a slave having so much power. Maybe that would have been explained if I hadn't jumped into this series at book eight? Lots of hot steamy sex that was that was cleverly structured by the plot so it was needed. I'll be reading more by this author 4. Sep 24, Nelda Carter added it. Imagine being hunted all your life and having nightmares about what is expected of you. To have a Dragon breath his fire on you so your goddess can live.

Now think how you would feel if you were to take tat dragon for your lover and fall in love with him knowing he is going to breath his fire on you and you are going to die to all of mankind would you do it? Aug 20, Leslie Jane Fahrney rated it really liked it Shelves: Continuing saga of Mageverse, with some new characters, and both hero and heroine trying to come to grips with their heritage.
The are both hot for each other, and feelings burn the sheets when they use a bed. And watching them try to save the world without sacrificing each other has you rooting for them. Jan 22, Donna rated it really liked it. Nineva, a fairy princess, is the prophesized savior of the Goddess Semira who has been enspelled into a sword. This is an epic tale of heros and heroines with Kel, the dragon, aiding Niveva in her protection of the sidhe realm from the Dark Ones who are trying to invade and to use their death magic to kill the human earth.
Fast action and a lot of romance fill the pages. Jun 01, Stacie added it Recommends it for: This story is about princess with powers and is in hiding form those that killed her parents. A dragon knight comes to save her but she is afraid of him and runs. Finally she realises that he is there to help her. Then they fight together to save their world from the Dark Ones. Feb 19, Tabi rated it it was amazing. Such a cute pairing! P But besides that the story line was very good, and the action didnt drag at all: I finished it in about 4 hours flat.

Oct 21, Shellz rated it it was amazing. Mar 12, Beth rated it it was amazing Shelves: Clearly a fun read. Enjoyed the story line, interesting twists and great, fun characters. Kel the shapeshifting dragon is one of my favorite characters in this series, and I was very happy that he was the male lead in this book, which didn't disappoint.
Sep 27, Michele bookloverforever rated it really liked it Shelves: Apr 28, renee ruth rated it really liked it. Jul 01, JazzRizz rated it it was amazing Shelves: What's not to love about dragons: I struggled with the pronunciation of Nineva's name though It was a great story, and I can't wait to see what happens next in the Mageverse. Jun 17, Melissa Wehunt added it. Aug 25, Michael Barnette rated it really liked it Recommends it for: Oct 16, NanaVamp rated it really liked it. I loved the story, the characters, and the spin on Arthur and Gwenevier. The book had dragons, werewolves, demons, fae's, and vampires.
Aug 24, Jennifer rated it it was amazing. Really enjoyed this one because Kel was probably my favorite character of the lot. Apr 14, Jessica rated it it was ok. I wanted to like the book but there was far too much sex and not enough to really make me cheer on the protagonists. Added to that, Nineva getting the dreams about a dragon killing her and being turned at 17 just really turned me off. She's on the run for 12 years and supposed to trust Kel from jump, even with him knowing her family back story. It just felt way too paint-by-the-colors.
Best Pre Teen Female Fantasy Novels ( books)
Not to mention a convenient plot point of sex for the greater good and magical truebond in a wee I wanted to like the book but there was far too much sex and not enough to really make me cheer on the protagonists. Not to mention a convenient plot point of sex for the greater good and magical truebond in a week. A bond that is superficial at best since they barely talked. Mostly they fought, screwed, or minor plotted with the bigger powers. Nineva is a princess on the run because the now-dead king killed her father and mother when she tried to save a dog at That's a great starting out point!
And her helping the little girl with cancer, to try and cure it, really made me want to root for her.
But that was short lived once Kel showed up. It was an empty line that never really delved into the relationship between the two women. Except the sharing of sex since that's all a fertility goddess is good for. Kel is a Dragon who prefers to live with the 'humankind,' the other magical creatures that are not Dragons. I wanted to know more about him. Yet the story didn't set him up as a major point at all.
He was mostly a gentrified Fabio: Give more background, more to really feed into why he was chosen to a Knight. Convince the reader that he's a good match for Nineva, a fairy princess in peril who can perfectly patrol and fight. But there's nothing there beyond a grump alpha male prototype. Other than the obvious fall in love quickly because she's a warrior. Okay, but what else is there to her? Beyond the lashing 'martyr' statements at her whenever she accepts what the prophecy foretold. I usually like Knight's work but this was way too porn-y without any plot.
The story needed to be tightened up, plot holes filled. I ended up skipping most of the sex scenes because it was too flowery and didn't really offer any kind of peace to the character except a good get-off. I was more interested in Varza's possessions and the death of a high-ranking Dragon, but again swept under the rug. There was nothing to keep me interested. I kept growling at the book when it felt like the women were little more than plot devices for the men. Drives me a bit batty when women authors do that. We should be doing better. Well-rounded women characters should be standard in the genre.
Again, very disappointed with Knight. Sep 08, Diana rated it really liked it Shelves: Sep 23, Natalie rated it really liked it. I didn't read books 3 or 4, not because I didn't want to I just didn't have them but I had this one. I liked this one too. The author does a good job with her couples and gives the reader a nice update on previous couples. The back story is still good although it's changed a little bit from the original premise.
Still not your typical PNR - the couple actually gets along and clicks from the get-go and there's no "stupid heroine gets in trouble and needs to be saved by the alpha male" scenes. Tha I didn't read books 3 or 4, not because I didn't want to I just didn't have them but I had this one. Nov 22, Anthonia rated it it was amazing. Okay talk about your dragons in this book.
