Flight Of The Storks

After the fucking, the birds leave to Africa. Why does it fall apart? Because once Jonathan leaves Israel for Africa, a new narrative force begins to dominate the imagery, acting, and editing rhythms. That narrative force has a long history; it goes all the way back to the twilight of the Victorian age, back to a short novel by a Polish-born novelist, Joseph Conrad: This narrative first appears as a tranquilizer dart that hits Jonathan's freckled back. He stumbles about like an animal, he falls into a lake like a drunk, he hallucinates: We learn that Max used to hypnotize him with a strange contraption in the secret basement of his Swiss home.

We learn he had a childhood in the Congo and that the answers to this growing and global mystery are all in black Africa.

There is also organ trafficking going on. When he arrives in Africa, Jonathan wants more and more tranquilizers, and he has more and more hallucinations of the real world around him: His guide into the heart of darkness is a handsome Brazzaville hipster Richard Lukunku who leads him through the slums, through the war zones, and to the gate of a jungle palace. However, after Max is found dead in mysterious circumstances, Jonathan decides to make the trip alone, never suspecting that he will find himself caught up in an international web of intrigue.

He uncovers a trail of grisly murders travelling through Bulgaria, Turkey, the Middle East, the Congo along the pathway of the migrating storks and their deadly secret.

Reminded me a little bid of "Blood Diamond" although these two are quite different. Passion for core human values makes it so appealing to those who like to think and relate while watching. Surrealistic retreats make this movie even more enthralling. Can't think of anything else to say about this movies without giving spoilers.

Max wants to find out why some Lang geleden al gelezen, maar het boek is me bijgebleven. Moest er vandaag aan denken toen ik hier ooievaars zag overvliegen op weg naar warmere oorden voor de winter. The end was clumsy. Most include enough cognates to be readily decipherable.

The style of this work — syntax, dialogue, descriptions — make the reader wonder if it is a screenplay masquerading as a novel or, even more likely, a novel written with a wistful and hopeful eye toward potential screenwriters who might be willing to transform it into a tidy financial return. But let us be generous and not judge the narrative prematurely. Where this novel is headed is unclear, but the premonition is grim indeed. Indeed, the book provides an interesting view into the culture of the Roma and into their relationships with the wider culture beyond their own group.

He moves on, first briefly to Turkey and than to Israel where, on a kibbutz, he meets Sarah, the sister of another ornithologist hideously slain. Sarah is the first person in the novel with whom Antioch is able to be open, with whom he seems in his isolated and constricted life to form a true bond.

After another attempt on his life, he returns to Paris to pursue the mystery from another direction. Indeed, Antioch has turned into an Indiana Jones-type character, a far cry from the studious and sequestered introvert that he was at the beginning of the book. Giving the author the benefit of the doubt, and engaging in an even larger measure of a willing suspense of disbelief, the reader continues. How can events and histories be linked? Just as things seem unable to become more complex, a villain with AIDS appears in the narrative.

Deeper and deeper into the jungle Antioch pursues him, convinced that he is approaching the answer to all the mysteries that have driven him throughout the narrative. Bit by bit, pieces fall into place, hints and facts that he begins to assemble into a mosaic intriguing as it is outlandish, a nightmare of international scope and profound complexity, a feast for conspiracy-theorists. I do find myself wondering what it is about this genre of narrative that is so attractive to many readers. Does it provide a measure of catharsis? Do the simplified roles of good and evil provide reassurance in a world in which such distinctions often seem blurred or indistinct?

Are ordinary lives often filled with ennui that such thrillers can relieve? Puzzling… I picked up this paperback in the airport at Bordeaux, France.

I had not heard of this author before, but the text looked easy to read with the aid of a pocket dictionary and a translator app on my iPhone at my level of French expertise. In addition, I needed a book of manageable length and sufficient interest and suspense to keep me going if the translating became difficult. Is the book a great one? No, certainly not, but it accomplished all that I required of it. Op elke locatie wordt een tipje van de sluier gelicht naar het mysterie. Het boek leest zeer vlot dankzij de toegankelijke en zeer realistische schrijfstijl.
