Six years ago, two WVU freshmen were last seen hitchhiking back to their dorms after seeing a movie in downtown Morgantown, West Virginia.
Full Bone Moon
Their bodies were later found in the dark woods south of town. Clawson was convicted of the murders, but Michael Chase, a reporter for the Herald-Dispatch, never thought Clawson was guilty-a belief that nearly cost him his career. Now the murders have started again. Dark, smart, and quite honestly impossible to put down at three o'clock in the morning!

And if I can't, shame on the author for not writing that in. I don't like it. I think it is lazy or weaselly.
There are so many misspellings, typos and poor word choices scattered throughout the text of "Full Bone Moon" it kept tripping up this editor. He wrote alter when he meant altar and curly-cues instead of curlicues and numerous others. Did no one proofread this book before it went to press? These are glaring errors, not subtle ones. Despite not being able to fully picture the hero, Michael Chase, in my mind, I identified with him.
Least of which, I, too, quit the Morgantown newspaper, where I had been mistreated, to follow my dream of freelancing. Moreso, I work like he does -- I procrastinate but when I do get a story sorted out in my head, it flows quickly. I have to give the author props for his plotting though. I felt like we were smart enough to figure it out on our own At the risk of spoiling it, I won't go on. I would not say this is a book I couldn't put down.
I wouldn't put it down. Because that's how I am. Are you like me or like my friend Lynda? Either way, this is worth checking out of the library for the plot alone Mar 25, Cornerofmadness rated it liked it Shelves: This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. I met the author at a local signing. I went to school not too far from WVU 15 years later though I never heard of these murders. As it turns out inspired means having truly nothing to do with the original murders but taking This book won first place in the West Virginia Writers Inc state wide novel contest. As it turns out inspired means having truly nothing to do with the original murders but taking the details and the flawed investigation and spinning it into a work of complete fiction a common mystery writer technique.
There is a large cast of characters including Chase, a disgraced crime reporter now stuck on the society beat and his former lover, Carol who is now the chief of police. Collins, the FBI agent, who is in town to guide the investigation into a series of new murders similar to the old ones and Detective Watts assigned to the case. Also, there is Devon, a mysterious man who may or may not be involved in the killings, Alexandra a psychiatrist and her patient, Maria who also have their roles to play. Two girls in recent weeks have gone missing after hitchhiking. Chase believes that they might be related to the Clawson killings a few years back.
No one wants his involvement in this case at all.

As it goes on, weaving back and forth between the characters all the chapters are very short , it seems like there are broader forces at work here and true Satanism might be at play. Overall, I liked the mystery. I did, however, have trouble connecting with the characters. Still, it was a good read. I did google Mared Malarik, one of the real victims and the case is just bizarre. Both thought that search was over years ago, when a Philadelphia man with a long police record was tried and convicted for earlier, similar, murders.
What neither can know is that these are only the strands of a very intricate, possessive, and well-tuned web of deceit, murder, ritual offerings, and insanity.

Jul 30, Geoff Coyle rated it liked it. I was drawn to this book due to my interest in the "Headless Coeds" case that it is somewhat based around.
It was well-written, but I found the most enjoyment in the mere fact that it takes place in Morgantown, where I live. Aside from that, I wasn't particularly interested in the characters or the storyline itself outside of the connection to that case.
