The Heat of A Kiss (McClellan Trilogy Book 3)

See a Problem?

Just two ordinary people falling in love. I mean now they even demand their heroes to be the same. A snippet from Desire's submission guidlines: The Desire hero should be powerful and wealthy — an alpha male with a sense of entitlement, and sometimes arrogance. While he may be harsh or direct, he is never physically cruel.

Beneath his alpha exterior, he displays A nice book I truly enjoyed. Beneath his alpha exterior, he displays some vulnerability, and he is capable of being saved. It's up to the heroine to get him there. The Texan hero should own the ranch, not work on it, and the urban hero should be someone in charge, not a handyman.

Kansas is a fun, quirky heroine. She may appear wimpy and weak, but she has a core of solid steel when there are no crawling slimy things around. She came to Arizona to find her brother and she won't give up until she does. Unfortunately, she can't do it alone. Luckily for her, Pax has a white knight complex, totally can't say no. Not that she asks. He learnt the hard way that he can't count on others, he doesn't need anyone.

He takes more than he should on his shoulders, even in his relationship, he is always the strong one. But all the time he spends with Kansas makes him doubt his attitude. I liked both of them, and I liked how they are together. The only tiny thing that wasn't right is the ending, I would have liked them to talk things out, it was just a bit too rushed. I'm certainly impressed with Greene's writing.

The poor hero Pax didn't stand a chance against her, used to being a loner ever since his father walked away Kansas confused the hell out of him, the way she could make people talk, never backed down when she wanted him to open up or the way she kissed him.

I loved their first lovemaking scene, how Kansas just seduced him and made him agree to take her in the search for her brother. The romance was just awesome and Kansas my favorite type of heroine. Jan 22, Tara rated it it was ok. I read this book almost as a dare to myself. I don't read romance as a general rule and I now know why. These books remind me of a "Goosebumps" for adults.

This, like all the books in the Mcclellan series, is great fun. The first person narrator is charming, tough, funny, and I root for him whole-heartedly every time. Uncomplicated until she saw her ex-boyfriend, Wes Harrison, who has been dead for twelve years.

Mac doesn't believe she actually saw Wes and tries to make her see that it was probably someone who looked like him. But Kate was positive it was him. Mac has been playing around at investigating so when Kate introduces him to Frank Hightower of Hightower Investigation Mac McClellan is a retired Marine living in Florida with his girlfriend, Kate Bell, where they are living a quiet, uncomplicated life. Mac has been playing around at investigating so when Kate introduces him to Frank Hightower of Hightower Investigations, a family friend, Mac is thrilled.

Then Frank offers to sponsor Mac and pay for his courses to earn his PI license in exchange for Mac working for him on the Harrison case. Mac jumps at the chance. As Mac gets further into the investigation he finds out Kate still has some of Wes's belongings which include some uncut diamonds. This is an edge of your seat type of story where something is always happening like Kate's car being tampered with, causing a terrible crash, sending her to hospital and Mac getting shot at.

I loved the parts with Mac finding out about diamond smuggling and drug dealers. I really liked Mac and learning more about him and his past but I didn't feel the same connection with Kate. Don't get me wrong, I liked Kate but just didn't think her character was as well developed. I did feel sorry for Mac trying to be a civilian after 24 years as a Marine. He had such a hard time remembering not to give orders to people but just ask them to do what he wanted.

May 26, M. Payne rated it it was amazing. Michael Helms has a plot that is as tight as a night of bondage. Mac does not see him because he bumps into his busty, red-haired companion and his eyes are drawn to her abundant cleavage. Kate insists the man is alive, a bag of glittery diamonds is found and they are off and running. They do unexpected things.

The reader gets vicarious thrills seeing what a Marine veteran would do in a number of dire situations involving lots of fighting and gunplay as well as strategizing his moves as he would in battle. Sheriff Pickron and Mac face off like two bulls who grudgingly tolerate each other as the tale unfolds. Scenes of Mac resisting seduction are as interesting as a consummated steamy tryst. Helms will have to make more of these mysteries available.

It is unfair to leave an addict with no fix. All the fun and no guilt. Nov 11, Terry Ambrose rated it really liked it. Mac McClellan is a retired Marine enjoying an uncomplicated lifestyle with girlfriend Kate Bell in the Florida panhandle. Mac wants to be supportive but is not sure how to help her.

When Kate introduces Mac to long-time family friend, Frank Hightower of Hightower Investigations, Mac receives a proposition to work for Frank while taking courses to earn his PI license. Not realizing that his cover has been blown, Mac books a room at the resort, thus putting his life on the line as he attempts to solve the case before someone else dies. Characters are believable and very likable. Even the bad guys have complicated pasts, which adds to the interest level in the book and helps to counterbalance the somewhat predictable ending. While a bit slow in parts, the action overall is moves quickly.

Mac may not have figured out what he's doing with his life for the future yet, but he's prepared to enjoy the present with Kate. What starts out as a pleasant night out starts a journey into Kate's previous relationships back in Destin. He gets to meet the rest of the family, including old family friends, but not exactly the way he planned. Unfortunately, instead of bringing them closer, the more information Mac is able to come up with, the farther Kate seems to drift.

Romance aside, the more in Mac may not have figured out what he's doing with his life for the future yet, but he's prepared to enjoy the present with Kate. Romance aside, the more information increases the risk to both of them. Mac has to deal with much ambiguity and temptation, but manages to stay with the goal - find Wes Harrison if he is still alive and not a ghost.

He's the strong hero type - ex-marine so what else would be expected? He's also human and has a sense of humor, very likable despite a tendency to order people around. The story is well written and moves quickly - I was hooked from the start and stayed up well past my bedtime to see how it ended. The multiple twists and turns make it hard to be sure the real scams and who Mac should or shouldn't trust. Dakota definitely adds some spice to the mix.

I'll be waiting for 3 in this series for sure! I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Dec 29, Ellen Behrens rated it it was amazing.
