A half-breed running for her life, Rada ni Drako, nee Rakoji da Kavalle a vile insult in the language of her father's people , sometime Trader, sometime mercenary, finds herself the Lord Defender of the planet Drakon IV. Working against the reptilian race's prejudice against females and mammals, she earns the respect of her troops and establishes a safe place for herself. However, I'm sure the adventure is only beginning.
I look forward to the following books in this series. One person found this helpful. The plot and storyline of this book is really neat and it incorporates many neat ideas. But it can be hard to follow because the character background and transitions are skimpy There is something missing that would help the book flow better and be more readable. Like many books being sold these days for Kindle, it has potential- but the book offers few truly new and original ideas, and it could use some aggressive editing.
It's ultimately popcorn- a good timekiller, and not uninteresting- but if you're expecting excellence and substance, then lower your sights or buy something else. I'm not generally a fan of short-story compilations and am not sure I would have gotten this if I'd known it was.
On the other hand, I'm quite glad I did get it enough to have recently purchased the second in the series. Interesting, but hard to follow. Needs more introductory material. Keeps your interest, plot advances slowly but with a full picture. Military development fits the environment and the psychological situation.
I'm not usually a fan of time travel books, but that aspect was minor compared to the story of Rada attempting to find her place in a dangerous universe.
