Maybe nothings really changed, but somehow reading about some chick named Grace and Glory and her relatives struggling to trust the Shepherd and make decisions that seem illogical, yet makes sense at the same time.
Idk how to explain it except that it's encouraging. I am a person of faith, and reading stories about other people's faith - the kind that actually requires RISK - makes me feel better about my own. Again, not sure how great of a read this is if you're not a person of faith, but I'd be interested to know if it brings any value to that person or not: Also, I'm realizing that my reviews are more like journal entries May 03, Johnnie rated it it was amazing. I picked this up last year and had it in my purse for reading when I'm waiting in line at the doctor's office or post office or whatever.
So it's taken me the better part of a year to read, but not because the book isn't interesting, simply because I didn't read it steadily. The poems and songs in this book are beautiful. I found myself encouraged over and over to trust God, and reminded over and over I am c I really liked this book. I found myself encouraged over and over to trust God, and reminded over and over I am created to be a joyful and willing servant of my Master, ready to pour out my life, and that He is always with me, even in dark and painful times. Book Review: "Mountains of Spices" by Hannah Hurnard (The Prayer Foundation)
The first time, I found the narrative a little disjointed with the flipping between scenes in the valley of humiliation and scenes on the mountains of spices. However, this time through I found it really resonated with me, in the way I need to "come away" with the King every day, in order to "go out" into the world from that place of Love. It has stirred my heart afresh to share the Good News about God's Love with all I come into contact with. Jan 07, Amy Litzelman rated it it was amazing.
As a continuation of "Hind's Feet on High Places," "Mountain of Spices" is an amazing allegory that takes the reader from the dismal hardships and difficult relationships of the valley up into the Mountains with the Beloved. Lessons of God's Kingdom are learned through each step, each trial, each gift and Suffering and Sorrow are transformed into Grace and Glory. I love Hannah's books because they speak Truth from a place of experience and love.
This one is no different. Apr 05, Marcie rated it it was amazing. The obvious outcome of the love of God's word is obedience. Fruit of the Spirit is the product of an obedient life. It is living out of the new name He has given us.
If we would frequently remind ourselves by renewing our minds daily in His word, our lives would overflow with lasting fruit that all would benefit from. In this sequel to 'Hind's Feet on High Places', the Shepherd teaches Grace and Glory lessons bases on the fruit of the Spirit to enable her to live in freedom and to reach out to those in darkness around her.

This book was a timely re-read for me as it revealed some of my own heart attitudes and taught lessons to overcome. Loved Mountain of Spices This book tells all of the things that make up who we are. It shows what we need to do to restore our bad feelings back to what God had intended us to be and to do to love and be his witnesses. He has always had only good for us.
We just have to learn from him how to find the good and then we receive his love and reward.

High Places 2 books. Books by Hannah Hurnard. Much-Afraid has learnt to trust and obey the Shepherd even in the darkest valleys, to be confident that in the end he always keeps his promises. Two decades later Hurnard wrote a sequel, named from the last words of Song of Songs, Mountains of Spices It is all written in you, by you, yourself, Lord Fearing — written plainly for him to see, just as when an old tree is cut down, the whole history of its life is found written plainly in its heart and the rings formed during each separate year of its life.
One who knows how to read it can understand at a glance about years when it was buffeted by the great storms and could scarcely make any growth, and those years when it was diseased, and those when it went forward and became strong. Or, if the heart has been eaten away little by little by worms and grubs, it all becomes plain when the tree falls and is found to be hollow and dead. In the odd-numbered chapters, valley-dwellers like these choose to embrace or reject both the truth about themselves, and the law on which the universe is founded: On every summit grows one of nine spices from Song of Songs 4: Hurnard has a rich botanical vocabulary and a painterly delight in colours.
We cross fields starred with gentians, sprinkled with buttercups and cowslips and crocuses bobbing beneath a sky of sapphire, walled by snowy ramparts that glow at dusk with flame and rose. Her wilderness vignettes remind me of New Zealand tramping trips: And, as did Christ, Hurnard found the natural world an endless source of parables. The pliable humility of reeds makes them unbreakable. Hurnard herself was handicapped by stuttering and fear, but learnt that this very fear is the greatest way to grow in faith:.
Hurnard said she aimed to show that by surrendering to the Saviour what seem to be our greatest hindrances, such as fear or loneliness, aggressiveness or pride,. This gives me great hope. At times my path has meandered along the shores of loneliness, or down through the desert of defeat. As I whittled down a longer list to a paltry two score, however, Hurnard was forced into the ring with C. Lewis who has many similar themes and scenes and, inevitably, knocked out. This is my first rehabilitation post, giving an unjustly rejected work its rightful praise.
You can meet my favourite Christian fiction that survived the knockout rounds here. Nevertheless, She had the feeling that somehow, in the very far-off places, perhaps even in far-off ages, there would be a meaning found to all sorrow and an answer too fair and wonderful to be as yet understood.
As she trudges through an endless misty forest, She began to realize that, cowardly though she was, there was something in her which responded with a surge of excitement to the tests and difficulties of the way better than to easier and duller circumstances… even the dizzy precipice had been more to her liking that this dreary plodding on and on. Although she slips and stumbles through the mud, the Shepherd says he never regards her as weak and crooked and cowardly, but as the gracious, fleet-footed queen he promised she will become: Hurnard herself was handicapped by stuttering and fear, but learnt that this very fear is the greatest way to grow in faith: Post was not sent - check your email addresses!
