Would you like us to take another look at this review? At times this approach seemed to work, and at other times it seemed disjointed. It was, however, an interesting slant on 2 Corinthians!

This could be a valuable book both for recovering battered leaders to know what hit them, and for leadership teams to use, to assess how they, and their organizations are functioning. There are far too many gifted leaders who have been beaten up and are out of action.
Hopefully this will bring healing insight, and perhaps come to the aid of the others in the midst of battering situations. None of our organizations can afford to lose leaders or good followers to toxic leaders, followers, or systems. Jan 23, Doug Newell rated it really liked it. There is a plethora of books on leadership and much is written on bad leadership. Not so much on the idea that the organization and the followers play a big part in the success of any organization, and not much can happen when even a good leader is in a bad situation.
The book takes 2 Corinthians as a case study to examine the leadership of Paul in a bad situation in Corinth. The premise is that there is not perfect organization, but you will find problems in three areas Fascinating discussion. The premise is that there is not perfect organization, but you will find problems in three areas 1 toxic leaders 2 toxic followers 3 toxic organizations. Would be a good book for anyone who manages people in any sphere of service or business.
Review: Handbook for Battered Leaders | Bob on Books
Aug 13, Jamie Pennington rated it really liked it Shelves: This is a very good book. I have been in ministry for 16 years and I kept thinking to myself If I had only known that. I also can't help but wish this book was required reading for new pastors about one or two years out from Seminary. If not a part of the curriculum of Seminary. But would probably be better one or two years out.
Yet the book was also difficult for me to read because it does bring up times when I have been battered by leaders and those whom I lead in the past and even present. I This is a very good book. I was also affirmed by the premise of the book that if you are not battered at some point chances are you have not lead. Thanks for the affirmation and the advice all through out the book.
Mar 27, Jim rated it it was ok Shelves: Interesting book applying good ideas and applications to pastoral leader conflict with parishioners. The desire to compare modern pastoral conflict with 2 Corinthians is somewhat strained. But the books is well written. As someone who has been battered in the past, the books would not be too much help in the midst, but it is good for being ready for future conflict. Jun 07, Casey rated it it was ok. Sometimes profound and found it helpful, especially the first chapters.
Lower rating because I often felt like I was wading through a lot of thoughts and had difficulty knowing what way I was being led. Not super pastoral in tone; it really was more like a guide, instruction manual, or handbook. We have trained people sitting in the pews to become addicted to lesser things.
