And so, this is the reason I came here. Located in Singapore, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy is at the heart of one of the best public policy laboratories in the world. The inaugural Master in International Affairs class will comprise 30 students from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, all with a keen interest in global affairs and Asia. The School actively engages leading think-tanks, consulting firms, multilateral institutions and not-for-profit organisations to facilitate internships. Applicants seeking admission to the programme must possess a good Bachelors Honours — second class and above degree or its equivalent.

The 2-year full-time Master in Public Policy MPP programme provides rigorous training for a strong foundation in policy analysis, programme evaluation and management. Coming from more than 20 countries around the world, our MPP cohort are drawn from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

The MPP curriculum draws from the disciplines of economics, political science and public management and is complemented by a wide range of specialisation modules and electives. MPP students will need to apply the knowledge and skills that they have learnt in the MPP programme to define and analyse policy issues, evaluate existing programmes, formulate and assess policy options and develop specific, actionable recommendations for the client organisation.

Candidates should demonstrate maturity and commitment towards the public service. The MPP-MEA curriculum comprises core modules that are complemented by a wide range of specialisation modules and electives. Students of this programme would need to complete an internship during the summer break between the first year and the second year. Students are encouraged to pursue internships. Applicants have to fulfil the admission requirements for both universities in order to gain admission to this programme.

The 1-year full-time Master in Public Administration MPA programme prepares students for senior management roles in the public sector. Each MPA class comprises around 40—60 students from about 20 countries.

Students are typically senior managers from the public and not-for-profit sectors as well as multilateral organisations. MPA students will have to undertake a year-long Governance Study Project, which consists of a study trip to a neighbouring country and a student conference. With the fast expanding Chinese economy and its rapid integration with the rest of the world, there is a great and increasing need for public administration education among government officials and state-owned enterprise SOE executives from China and other emerging economies. This programme aims to train the next generation of thought leaders with the analytical skills and substantive knowledge needed to generate, evaluate, and communicate research in public policy.

Only about 6 — 8 candidates are admitted every year. PhD students are expected to complete the programme in 4 years, and must complete 7 core modules, 2 electives, and a PhD qualifying examination and dissertation. There are also financial aids in the forms of scholarships. The PhD in Public Policy programme is a very competitive programme, where only a handful of students, typically 6 — 8 a year, from more than applicants will be selected.
