Aug 18, T4bsF Call me Flo rated it really liked it. I really enjoyed this mediaeval story of love and adventure. Brian Sellars paints a vivid picture of how people lived their lives in the period. The characters and storyline kept my interest as did the language of the time.

Mythical legends do sometimes have their bases in fact and there have long been various claims for the one portrayed in this book The only thing that disappointed me was the ending - too many loose ends that either needed tying up or perhaps a sequel??? Only Brian Sellars could answer this one!! Apr 13, Sabrina rated it it was amazing Shelves: I feel like such a cheater. I downloaded this book to my Nook for free and I should have paid full price.

I am a sucker for medieval stories and this one I absolutely loved. It was powerful and extracted so much raw emotion from me that I feel the need to read it again — and buy the book.

Weekly Security Report from Whispering Bell

I enjoyed each and every character, whether bad or good. The times depicted were well researched and lively. The descr I feel like such a cheater. The descriptive words immersed me into each scene. I felt the book was cut just a bit too short for my liking. While I can guess what Wynflaed will choose, she has a view spoiler [wee little issue growing inside her hide spoiler ] that may take her choice away to some extent and I would have liked to have seen how she addresses this.

Also, I would have liked to have seen how Wulfric was affected by his circumstances. My only complaint is more general — the maps from this book are missing!!

The Whispering Bell

Gggrrr, I love maps and I hate when they are missing from my nook books — this happens a lot. Sep 06, Matthew Harffy rated it really liked it. I loved the setting and the characters. It felt grounded in a real understanding of the time and place.

However, I did feel that the last quarter of the book went over the same themes one too many times and then rushed to a rather rushed, unsatisfied ending. This is why I have given it four, rather than five stars. Sep 10, Leila rated it really liked it. An interesting book which I enjoyed. The plant produces yellow or pink flowers and fruit. It rises out of the barren, destroyed land. Jul 20, Lissa rated it really liked it. A thoroughly enjoyable book.

See a Problem?

Set in the Dark Ages and in the time when women were the property of men and had no power. The story is about Wynflead who becomes widowed early and her fight to regain everything she has lost to her brother in law. A very easy read. Would have loved the glossary to have been at the beginning of the book and I hope that there will be a sequel as the story deserves one. Mar 31, Roz rated it really liked it Shelves: At first I found this book really hard to get in to and I could easily not read it for a few days. But over a quarter of the book in, I couldn't put it down.

The story really developed and made me want to keep reading and not put the book down. The story line was very good, and it was a different time era, Anglo Saxon England, from what I normally read. Many words are kept in their Anglo Saxon form, and at times it felt like me, as the reader, was a part of the story. An excellent read and I wil At first I found this book really hard to get in to and I could easily not read it for a few days.

An excellent read and I will definitely recommend it! May 12, Rita Bodiford rated it it was ok. Too sensual and violent for me I thought the premise sounded interesting so I tried it out.

By the time I had read 5 chapters, I knew it wasn't for me. Oct 01, Rhonda rated it it was amazing Shelves: A wonderful book that I'm sure I'll read again.
