The Lives of Two Women

It's difficult with two people. What we have is not a fling or a phase, we're a real family with healthy, happy kids. Our son Oliver doesn't even recognize what is 'unusual' about our family.

Three people and three parents makes so much sense to us. Indeed pregnant mother, Jane, 27, says that she never wanted children until she realised how much easier it was with three parents. Jane, who also works with Adam in his business consulting company, explains: You see a lot of parents struggling.

With three parents around, it's so doable. With two partners, there's so much help and I'll never have to leave my kids with someone I don't trust. Bisexual Brooke, 28, - who also has son, Oliver, seven, from a previous relationship - says: I've always wanted four sons so this is a dream come true.

We're setting a good example. Adam, Jane and Brooke all live together on a large plot of land with two separate houses - one of which they use as an office and one of which Brooke uses as a home school where she plans to teach all the trio's children. It allows us to spend more time together. I love coming home and getting a kiss from Brooke, Dante and Oliver! We were trying for a baby - it just felt like the right time and parenting together as a threesome is a lot of fun.

Brooke, who works part-time on Adam's company whilst being a full-time mum, says: We both excelled at school because we found it too easy. Oliver can read, write and understand things beyond a normal school academic curriculum. It's something we've always wanted even though it's not legal. Prior to that, I'm bringing Brooke, Jane and the kids to England before she gives birth.

I want to celebrate our pregnancy with my loved ones in Britain. Occasionally, Adam, Brooke and Jane like to involve a fourth partner in their sex life but admit that they're exhausted with two kids and another baby on the way. We're exhausted and happy with the children.

If we wanted to add someone, I'm sure we could.

They both contracted polio at a young age, were abandoned by their families, and grew up together in the same Chinese orphanage — which gave them the same family name. But in , Minghua, then 11 years old, was adopted by an American family, embarking on a new life and leaving Chunchun behind. The two women have kept in touch ever since, video-calling each other frequently. Chunchun is unflinching about her physical disability. She has her own room at the orphanage, which provides her with the basic necessities for a life with dignity. As facilities for the disabled are uncommon in prefecture-level cities like Chenzhou, Chunchun has to ask her male friends for help getting on and off public transport.

Two years ago, Chunchun met Lei Yu, a blind masseur who would later become her partner. Though Chunchun and Lei have not registered for a marriage license, they have abundant respect and affection for one other. With Lei and other friends, she founded a team of street performers with disabilities. They travel from town to town putting on two- or three-hour shows, singing, dancing, and doing acrobatic stunts in exchange for donations from spectators. After subtracting costs, there is often nothing left.

On the other side of the world, Minghua lives a markedly different life. Chen often requires assistance on public transport in China, which is not well-adapted to people with disabilities. Her dorm is designed for students with disabilities and has a wide range of accessibility features. Chen says she has become used to the stares when she goes out in public.
