Bahamas Bound and Back Again – A Sailing Adventure
We loved every minute with our Captain, Keino! He was an informative, delightful, professional individual with extensive knowledge of yachting and the Bahamas! Our yacht, the Goya, was a 37' Fountaine Pajot powercat. We cooked on the yacht many nights. We frequently used the provided dingy to explore various cays on our trip. Everything worked as it should and what little issues we had, our Captain helped us find solutions quickly. Hi CraftTheTravel Thank you for the kind review and I will pass on your comments to the team you named. It sounds like you had a wonderful time in the Bahamas and enjoyed the Goya.
Hopefully you have some wonderful photos to look back on and we hope you will sail with us again sometime soon. We recently returned from the one week Exuma Dream route, booking with Dream Yacht Charter through the UK agents as part of our honeymoon. From start to finish we had the best holiday we've ever taken!
We were upgraded to a Lagoon which was an incredibly comfortable cat. We had our own spacious cabin with lots of storage, an en suite with separate shower cubicle and it even had air con - very luxurious compared with many yachts I've sailed on before. Alternatively there is a cafe and you can also use bikes for free. We were welcomed on board with drinks and canapes and were treated incredibly well by both our Skipper and Hostess throughout the week. Our host was an incredibly talented chef who cooked incredible fresh, tasty food - the best meals we had all honeymoon, in fact!
She was always happy, she patiently told me all about local island life and the food she was cooking and we really enjoyed her company. Our Skipper was very experienced, very professional and happy to talk with us and tell us stories. He was also very happy for us to use all of the on board equipment SUP, kayak and snorkel gear advising us on where to go and always keeping an eye on us whilst in the water should we have needed any help.
Always plenty of food we ate very well! We did have a risk of hurricane we were told it was hurricane season by the UK team at time of booking so we were aware of this from the off. Although it never affected us, our skipper was constantly monitoring the weather and had many different plans to be able to get back to base quickly and safely in case we needed to. Luckily we didn't and we got to do everything on the itinerary in the week in glorious sunshine and light breeze. We were lucky enough to explore many different bays and islands and being September we mostly had these all to ourselves.
We swam with sharks, kayaked with turtles, paddle boarded to remote islands, snorkelled different reefs, bays and the plane wreck in Norman Cay. We went to Compass Cay and to Staniel Cay to swim with the pigs! We were taken to the Mangroves by dinghy which was brilliant. We also did a fair amount of sailing as well as motor sailing which is great. We managed to do so much and create incredible lifelong memories with a great bunch of new people.
I would completely recommend the Dream Yacht Charter Exuma route and we are already trying to work out when we could do another one! We had an incredible honeymoon and hope to be able to treat ourselves to another cabin charter again in the not-so-distant future. Hi kathrynf, It's so wonderful to hear about your honeymoon - what a memorable time it sounds like too.

The AC was not turned on when we got there - so it took all day to cool down. The Generator did not work - so the AC did not work when we were not on shore power.

We spent four of 8 nights at the dock - undergoing repairs- instead of sailing and enjoying our vacation. You need the generator to use the water maker. We ran out of water everyday. We kept having to buy water at the dock at night. My guests who had all paid thousands of dollars to join me on this trip were very upset. In fact, we sailed back to port one day early Sat night instead of Sun morning and 5 people left the trip a day early and got hotel rooms. The base manager was very rude.
But refused to refund any of my money. My generator broke 3 times. Then he made me sign a release and waiver before he would refund these fees. They are understaffed and the base is simply poorly run. I have photo documentation of everything that went wrong on this trip - from bleeding the water lines 3 x per day, to toilets that would not flush, to mechanics taking my cabin apart and removing the bed to get to generator, to rebooting and resetting the water maker system under the bed in Captain's cabin.
They treat you with respect. Dear RichardMorrisEsq Thank you for your feedback of your recent charter in Abacos on one of our boats booked through an owner. Your review is valuable to us, as we pride ourselves on positive customer experiences. Our boats are inspected before each charter and regularly maintained.
We understand that the generator was out of action for two days during your charter, which is unfortunate and unusual. When you notified the base, the manager suggested you dock while it was repaired so you could use the electricity to power the air-con and facilities so you were as comfortable as possible. Our engineers attended the boat to attend to a reported faulty water maker three times, but they were unable to replicate the issues you were reporting.

Feedback is so important to help us maintain the boats if any issues are reported during charter. We do this through a feedback form at base when you disembark. It's unfortunate that you didn't complete this to explain the issues, as it goes back to our headquarters, yet signed the compensation release form which indicated you had accepted the reimbursement for marina and power fees. Hopefully you will charter again with us in the future.

What's your side of the story?
Hi Susie, Thanks for stopping by! My, you guys must have some stories to tell! This time was just silly. I hope we run into you out there on the water some day! I sure hope your are getting all ready to put this in a book. I thinkk it will be a best seller.. That would be us, haha! Ahhhh, the joys of living with no income.
Tasha, thanks for the heads up! But, I love fresh fruit and veggies too. Wait, I just remembered two more provisioning stops we made along the way. But still not bad, right?! I think what helped us there is we did A TON of stocking up in FL just before we left, and went through mostly what we bought. Lots of oatmeal, granola bars, made bread for sandwiches. Drank water that we made from our watermaker.
But our chill box literally was full when we left. We had about 6 lbs of frozen beef, six lbs of sandwich meat, two of those really really big bags of shredded cheese. Plus those two weeks in the Jumentos and Raggeds where we literally caught our dinner every night, that was huge.
Sounds like you stocked your boat more sensibly than we did. Does anyone else here think it takes like mucous? The rest I can get there. Abominable stuff — BUT try the five-grain combination instead. I eat it about days a year — con mucho gusto! Load it down with yogurt, orange juice, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, flaxseed meal, unsweetened coconut shreds and as much fruit as possible.
Pleaseeeeeeeee tell me you found someone to give that food to. There are so many impoverished families in the DR. Tonight we just finished a dinner of canned ham, canned sweet potatos and canned spinach blech! The 40 boxes of cereal, 20 jars of spaghetti sauce, and numerous pounds of pasta was money well spent! The canned ham…not so much. Molly, I cringe at the thought of how much food it must take to feed a family of 4, including growing teenagers! Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. All our leftover canned goods, not including other dried goods.
A life worth living. Sailing Across the Pacific Ocean. Be the first to comment. Add butter, sugar and frozen fruit to the oatmeal. Love it that way. That sounds much nicer. Thanks for the tip, Judie! My love of stories drives me to write.
