The Accident (Point Horror Book 16)
I loved the other Diane Hoh books that I've read, 's teen horror is a genre that I absolutely love. It's so cheesy but it's just so good. I think that this book is a really good addition to the Point Horror series, and I'm excited to read more of her books as I make my way through this series. I rate these books compared to other Point Horror Books Only I read this as part of the pointhorrorbookclub that I run monthly! Feb 10, Pao Yang rated it it was amazing. It's a very interesting book because just how this girl who can see a ghost and how she have to make a very big decision with this ghost girl that was around her age but have die long ago. The decision was to trade place with the ghost for about a week and Yup that's all I can see, don't want to spoils things. Oct 29, Kristin rated it liked it. I read this book a bunch of times when I was younger. Someone recently donated it to my little free library and I am not feeling well today so i decided to re read it.
It's an entertaining story, a little sparse on characterization. I guess the only thing I really don't like is how all the teenagers talk like they're from the 50's "Oh that's just rotten! Jun 09, Vicki rated it it was amazing Shelves: I loved reading the book again it was just as fab as I remembered. I am going to work my way through more of her point horror books. So far out of the Point Horror rereads, this has been my favourite. Yes, there are plot holes which I'm choosing to ignore for enjoyment sake and rather insipid characters who make silly decisions, but overall this had intrigue and mystery and was well thought out.
Ended rather abruptly but I suppose that's just the given way for these books. I used to enjoy collecting the Point Horror series as a teen. This title is one of a few that I can't really recall having. Found it to be an enjoyable read, but not one of Hoh's best.
Aug 29, Jenn rated it liked it. But this one, with spirits with dead girls is full of things that aren't comprehendible! Enjoyable, easy to read, don't expect too much. This was super predictable, but still enjoyable despite the fact that Justin wasn't a very compelling romantic interest. What really killed this book was the ending - the author could have written a much better and more interesting conclusion to the story instead of view spoiler [having Julietta bastically just give up. Oct 21, Alejandra Delgado barajas rated it liked it.
This book is a good book for a quick, fun read. The book itself would have benefited from a longer length to help the story go more smoothly. There was quit a few plot holes but it did not bother me so much. Aug 16, curleduptoes rated it really liked it. This book was so much fun. A quick read full of thrill and creepiness. Jul 07, Kelly rated it liked it. The story is good in parts. In the tiny village of Lakeside, nothing much happens. She begs Megan to trade places with her for a week. Megan is both reluctant and yet fascinated and curious and she eventually agrees to do so.

Can Megan really trust Juliet? And will she ever get her life back? I read this as a teenager a In the tiny village of Lakeside, nothing much happens. I read this as a teenager and I loved it. I just love re-reading this book, okay?
The Accident
This was one of my childhood favourites. Reading it again, I'm not quite sure how to feel about it. I think I'd have liked it better if I'd read it under a different imprint, at a different time. It's not really a horror story, more of an urban fantasy, and as I'm reading these books in October Halloween season!
In addition, I came to this one off the back of Trick or Treat , so anything was bound to be a disappointment. That said, it is a nice book. Th This was one of my childhood favourites. There's not a lot of suspense in it - I think any reader could have worked out early who the bad guy is - nor many chills, but it's nicely written with a very appealing heroine. Megan is shy and dreamy, so when she first sees a ghost in her mirror she thinks she's imagining things. After all, three of her friends were in a terrible accident that day and she's under a lot of stress.
She's not dreaming, though - hanging out in her mirror is Juliet, a girl Megan's age who drowned in the lake. She begs Megan for a chance to take over her body for a week, so she can experience life again, and Megan - the soft-hearted sort - eventually agrees. But she spends the week worrying, because someone is attacking her friends and family, leaving taunting pictures for her as clues as to who will be next.
And Juliet isn't acting like someone who'll be gone in a few days. I didn't like the whole picture thing, it felt random and unnecessary to the plot. The reasons behind the attacks on Megan's family and friends were never explained to my satisfaction, particularly since none of them were killed and few of the "accidents" were serious. But the writing was good enough to keep my attention, and Megan is a fun heroine. Even if she did make the unspeakably stupid choice to swap places with a dead girl.
It never goes well. Lighter than other Point Horror books, with a certain sweetness to it. Good for kids, or for anyone looking for something light and fun. Recommend this to teen girls who would like to read a thrilling, suspenseful supernatural story. I thoroughly enjoyed it as a fifteen-year-old.
I'm giving this such a high rating due to its unique subject matter. Most Point Horror novels deal with the typical murder mystery mixed with high school drama, and while this did have HS elements , they are teenagers after all , this one has the added attraction of an evil ghost who manipulates our protagonist into switching places with her in order to enjoy the sweet sixteen I believe it was, that she never had. I think what really grabbed me in the story was that no one noticed the differenc I'm giving this such a high rating due to its unique subject matter.
I think what really grabbed me in the story was that no one noticed the differences in personality between Megan and the ghost; Megan is a mild mannered good girl who loves her family. The ghost was a brash spoiled brat who blew off the requests Megan asked for in exchange for switching places, no matter how small. I will say that I wanted to pop Megan on the head for agreeing to this switch in the first place: A short spooky read well worth your time. Nov 06, Kristina Morris rated it it was amazing. This book has action, adventure, romance, mystery, and ghosts!
It's about a girl Megan who comes in contact with a shy ghost Juliet who wants nothing more than to celebrate the 16th birthday she never got to have. Megan has the opportunity to help this spirit have her dream before passing into the afterlife, but if she does help her, what will it cost her and will she ever be the same again? I have students fighting over this book all the time!
I need to buy more of her stand alone books for my class. Apr 09, Sara L.
This is not a genre that would usually interest me. I came across it on the library website and checked it out. I've been trying new genres lately and this did NOT disappoint! Do they stand up to modern day YA Horror? The next book will be announced on 16th July For links to pointhorrorbookclub posts old and new, Point Horror guest posts and interviews with Point Horror authors please click here. Oh the poor students of Philippa Moore Senior High School in Lakeside are suffering due to their school not being air conditioned!
So bunking off school is a must! Whilst Megan is planning her sweet sixteenth party her friends have a terrible accident! Whatever could have happened to them?! And this is just the first of many strange terrifying accidents that occur!
- ENIGMA DEL BOSQUE (Spanish Edition);
- Perdida en sus brazos (Bianca) (Spanish Edition).
- A Shot to the Heart.
And when Megan find drawings predicting who will be next in true Final Destination style it gets serious! Not any old drawings either! Drawings that have the meanings of names! I present the evidence…. What kind of twisted mind would draw such a sick pictures about a tragic accidents?! Just a day in the life of good old kind hearted Megan! Ghostly apparitions and body swaps! Woah did Dove from The Perfume return?! I bet Megan told her to go and visit the new Ghostbuster movie set instead of bothering her!
Megan with her hair as dark as crows wings , oval face and sea green eyes…..
See a Problem?
Always feeling sorry for people got her in a bit of bother when she felt sorry for a ghost in her mirror! I found Megan a little typical point horror girlish! Mr tall and thin like one of the reeds in the shallower coves of the lake. With gorgeous sandy wavy hair and his grey eyes behind his wire-rimmed glasses! A not so typical point horror love interest as instead of the jock we have a kind of funny, geek who is actually quite adorable.
Are you some with an imagination and belief that anything is possible?! Nothing to be scared of! Imagine waiting all of those years for someone with the exact match to your advert to finally move into a house near the lake who just happens to be the granddaughter of the step sister who you hated and you drowned because of! Phew that was mind baffling! I also loved how Juliet wasted no time and got it on with Justin, who thought it was Megan and Megan had to watch…. Drama loving Hillary Bench….. With her thick, straight short blonde hair which was square around her ears in a shining cap she gave me a lot of chuckles especially on the audio tape!
She was wasted in Point Horror and needed in an action movie! Oh bless them …. They had a nice yellow car though…. They even accused him of having the personality of a hang nail? I felt kind of sorry for him…. Also little mention has to go to sophisticated viper Vicki Deems, in her skin tight sexy red top and black spider eyes spotting men like spotting juicy flys…. Megan did love her blue denim shoulder bag…a lot! She took it everywhere! The audio tape casting got this description very wrong then…I laughed at him many a time!
She would go poof? You are not getting rid of Juliet that easy Megan — who you gonna call? One of us was going to pick this up!
Does Juliet count as a dead body? Well she is dead I guess, but no dead bodies turn up throughout the book! Hmmmmm not really scary! And poor Tom, Megans little brother gets run over by a monster truck! It was the crazy ghost lady who you swapped bodies with Megan! And Silly Hilly falling off the balcony! Thinking about it Megan got off quite lightly really!?! I actually quite liked this…. So this month we picked The Accident to read along with listening to the audio book! The link to The Accident audio book is here.
Well what an experience it was indeed! I have never laughed so much! With added synthesizers for added effect which seemed to come on at really inappropriate times! I read the book first and then listened to the audio afterwards and I have to say I loved Justin far more on the audio that on the page! He was kind of funny on the audio and had an adorable accident! And the special sound effects like the car crash, the man going up the ladder and the lake were all added bonuses! Summing up The Accident in emojis! Check it out here!

Apologies, Chelley, sometimes real life just gets in the darn way. What with the ghostly body swap antics on top of the usual stalker-y threatening-notes-in-lockers gubbins, it was like we were getting two Point Horrors for the price of one.
So that got a thumbs up from me. And speaking of supporting characters, Hoh pulled out all the stops with this one. Poor old Megan suffered from blanditis, with frequent bouts of dumb-as-a-box-of-hair-ness, but everyone else was a breath of fresh air, especially Vicki Deems and her penchant for halter top and leather miniskirt combos because apparently, teenagers in the 90s dressed like middle-aged hookers.
I wanted more of Vicki Deems. For a start, Vicki Deems would for sure have told Juliet where to stick her body swap idea. Hilary was great fun too, and I agree that Justin was the rarest of Point Horror commodities: As for poor old squat, mustachioed Donny… I like to think he ended up finding happiness with Slaggy Deems in the end. They were both just looking for love in all the wrong places.
I thought the Juliet stuff was less successful. Juliet herself was a nifty villain, but it took way too long for her to show her true colours, and the rules of the body swap itself were hazy at best. Did Megan have access to ghost-transport of some kind? But as steeped in melodrama as the novel is, NOTHING prepared me for the histrionics of the audiobook, which sounded like it had had as much as four or five entire dollars spent on it. Seriously, Cappie Cabot best name ever, hands down , give me a break. A box of hair dye. A picture of Princess Anne. Like chatting to ghosts in your mirror?
